She.blows.me.away.

Adele came out with her second album yesterday, titled 21. No sophomore slump here. She is absolutely amazing. She doesn’t need autotune and the passion that she sings with just makes the lyrics come alive. Wow.

Don’t You Remember

Someone Like You

Set Fire to the Rain

Since I have young children, I have to listen to the Justin Biebers and Lady Gagas of the music world, and listening to Adele sing makes them sound like they should be American Idol audition rejects. She, in my opinion, is in a class by herself. I have always believed that Martina McBride has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. But not anymore…Adele is unbelievably talented.

If you like her, check out 21 on iTunes! Amazing stuff!

  1. I’ve been praising Adele on this site since she fist came out with 19. Loved her then and love her now! : )

  2. My husband knows I love Adele and other new bands…….For Valentines Day, he had to choose between concert tickets to Fleet Foxes or Adele…he knows I love them both, but seeing as they were both playing in our area on the same day, he opted for Fleet Foxes. I’m sooo looking forward to the concert in May…but I would have loved to see Adele too : (

  3. Make you feel my love is a Dylan cover and makes me melt…

  4. Love, Love, Love this song too! Home Town Glory! OK, I’ll stop now..

  5. There is just something about the tone of her voice that I love. I’ll have to say 21 is a hell of a record!!

  6. Hi Grey! If Adele doesn’t win a Grammy for 21, just shoot me. I’ve seen her in interviews and she says this is a more mature, less angry record than 19. While I adored 19, I can see what she means…she has mellowed and maybe found love. What an amazing voice this you girl has…

  7. She definitely deserves some recognition for this effort. And I love her stage presence. She is so comfortable up there. I had to look up her tour dates and I’m thinking I might try to get to one of her concerts.

  8. Do it! But quick-because I think she’s sold out for when I wanted to go.

  9. I think Set Fire to the Rain is my fav from this album….there are so many good ones. Something about her voice goes right through me..chills…. My previous favorite female singer was Brandi Carlile, but she doesn’t have the certain something Adele does.

  10. So, I’m thinkin there are no Adele fans here ; )………

  11. mamaforpeace Says:

Oh, yeah! I think she is amazing. What maturity, both in her voice and in her interpretations.

  12. Not familiar with Adele’s music, so thank you for putting her vids here. I just had the chance to listen.

  13. I like her voice.

Hope to hear from FH and hicksaholic about last night.

  14. I hope you don’t mind me sharing another beautiful british voice who is also amazingly friendly with his fans…James Maddock..hope you enjoy him as much as I do.. : )

Sorry, I wrote an epistle about Saturday night and then somehow deleted it.

I went to the Beau Rivage. Taylor was fabulous as always and played longer than normal. Two encores, after a bunch of people rushed the stage. We do think Taylor is a star in lower AL and MS regardless of what the rest of the country thinks. Encore songs, acoustic “The Fall” and “Bulletproof”. Taylor has a couple of new songs he is playing- one a Stones song and another a 70’s war protest song(Why can’t we live together, I think)
I had 4th row center aisle seat so I was really happy. I was with my friend who had a friend with her who was a high high roller so that’s how I got the great seats. Unfortunately I decided to drive home after the concert because there was already 4 in the room and I’m not a gambler. Naturally Taylor decided to go play with a black blues band at the little jazz cafe next to the theater. He played with them for more than 30 minutes. The bongo drum guy asked my friend out. It was pretty funny. Before the concert he was in the elevator with us and asked where we were going. We had no idea he was in Taylor’s band. We told him we were going to see Taylor and he asked where our seats were. We told him 4th row and he said he was in the 2nd row. We looked up on stage and he was behind Sam(who was behind Taylor. He probably plays that joke on everybody.
Needless to say I was pissed I missed after hours Taylor. My friend got her picture with him. One of her friends danced with Sam. And I drove home to Mobile by myself.
They saw most of Limbo down in the lobby the next morning.
Also talked to another friend whose room was right next to Taylor’s in Pensacola. He said the Pensacola concert was very intimate only about 150 or so people. I can’t believe I missed that(nobody to go with). Missing a Taylor concert to me is a life experience you can never get back.
Taylor needs a lot more fans like me though.

  16. Good for you Hicks. Glad you had a good time. My review will not be anywhere near as good as yours. So maybe I’ll keep it to myself. I stayed at the beau rivage should have gone home after like you did. Being at that casino was like being at a carnival freak show. The concert was just plain blah!! Been there heard it all ready!! Nothing new….

  17. LOL FH!

  18. hicksaholic Says:

I liked the concert. I thought Taylor got better as the concert went on. I have to agree with you regarding the casino. I am amazed at the number of people in that place… it’s like a small city. It’s so weird with no windows in site. But I guess whatever floats your boat. So FH I guess you weren’t around for the after concert deal at the little cafe?
I’m still waiting to hear back from my friend to get all the story at the after concert deal.
The friend I have that was at the Pensacola concert was there to talk to Taylor about possibly playing for a Mardi Gras ball next year.
My review wasn’t that good FH. Tell us yours…. did you go home with Taylor?

  19. hicksaholic Says:

Never mind FH… I think I misunderstood. You meant your review of the concert would not be as favorable as mine. I hate that. I was hoping you would enjoy it. I guess no more traveling for Taylor for you huh?

  20. The friend I have that was at the Pensacola concert was there to talk to Taylor about possibly playing for a Mardi Gras ball next year.
    ===============================================
And Taylor probably said yes. He’s well known for telling anyone “I would love to do it-let’s make it happen!”.

  21. hicksaholic Says:

I hope so…. it’s our ball. I think it’s a little far out for him to commit but if it could tie in with a performance next year at Beau Rivage around the same time it might work.

  22. Okay CF. Go to Face Book and read your messages. DOn’t laugh! It’s long. I’ve decided I won’t be a stereotype anymore. I’m not a granny yet but I am 47 years old. It’s time to let it go. As should alot of the olther middle aged women. He doesn’t like you!!!! No one has to say it. I know I am a mean bitch. But I state the truth.

  23. OMFG! FH-Sorry, but I was in stitches! LOVE those honest recaps 😉

  24. hicksaholic Says:

No fair… I want to see it Fairhope! At least post it here.
Who is trying to get Taylor to like them? Never mind probably a lot of people. But still don’t you think it’s ok to go to a Taylor concert as long as you act appropriately and just watch the concert? Really interested in your reply. I want to make sure I’m not looking like a fool.

  25. hicksaholic Says:

Somebody at least let me read it!

  26. I am guessing on this, but perhaps if Taylor comes out with new music and not recycling the same old stuff over and over, it would be a more enjoyable experience for some. The show I attended in SLO last summer was great mostly because I saw alot of growth in him as a musician and felt the show was more real than the 07 tour.

Everyone has a different experience and FH has every right to share or not to share. But it seems that in Tayland-you are considered a hater if you don’t go with the masses.

  27. hicksaholic Says:

Well I don’t consider anybody a hater. I can understand disappointment if one thought it was going to be all new music. Taylor did add a couple of new songs and I thought he did a good job with them. I was more interested in the recap from the middle aged women perspective. I didn’t see any bad behavior unless you consider a bunch of people going down right in front of the stage to be bad. But they looked to be fairly controlled. I didn’t stick around afterwards for the merchandise/ signing stuff as it really doesn’t interest me so perhaps there was some stuff Fairhope saw there that was inappropriate. Just really just was curious. Something must have really pushed Fairhope if she decided to just forget it from here on out. But yes you’re right CF FH has every right to decide if and to whom she wants to share her thoughts.

  28. The music and the way he sang it was new for the majority of the audience in Biloxi. His audience is older and I doubt that is going to change no matter what kind of music he does. Hopefully he picks up new fans when he does the casino shows.

My hope and I think his goal is to try to get back in the limelight via TV or a movie. Meanwhile, should that not happened, he has increased his clout with musicians via jamcruise etc. He has also invested in the risky restuarant business, in the hopes of making some profit. It is rumored he bought a home in Nashville and that he is working on a new CD.

  29. Thanks for the recap hicks.

  30. casualfan Says:

Taylor simply stated that he was living in Nashville-didn’t say or imply that he bought a home there. He also stated that he will hopefully have a cd out in the fall. Anything beyond that is only speculation.

The restaurant venture is a good move because he’s investing back into his home community and no doubt has nice tax break incentives. What he’s doing is no different than what millions of others have been doing.

Taylor has dropping seeds down to a science. If and when they fruitate is any one’s guess. “I’ll believe it when I see it happen” is the best approach to with Hicks.

  31. hicksaholic Says:

I saw they announced the new season cast of Dancing with the Stars. I was wondering if that was what Taylor was so upset about a few weeks back going on a twitter rant. Perhaps he was up for that show but something happened at the last minute.

  32. CF, hookedonhicks said Taylor told her he bought a home in Nashville and the TV reporters in Pensacola said T moved to Nashville and he said yes he did. It is quite possible he is only renting in Nashville.

  33. casualfan Says:

Oh, okay Rosie. I don’t follow hookedonhicks so I wouldn’t know. Nashville is a beautiful place to live.

  34. hicksaholic, when the BB posted on Feb 1 Taylor’s concert in WA for 04/28/11 …I figured he would not be on DWTS for the spring…(DWTS runs March 21- to end of May).. the rant was Jan 28… I doubt that in 3-4 days he made concert arrangements that quickly….Something pissed him off…

    said rant..

I was going to reply with “That poor woman. God help her.” But I refrained. lol

  37. casualfan Says:

    ha! I know, right?

  38. Speaking of young children…this is Colin Malloy’s song to his son Henry. I think of my sons when I hear it…beautiful…

  39. Anyone watching AI this season? This guy is my favorite. Hey, he’s also the VFTW pick, so he and Taylor have something in common!!! :~)

  40. hicksaholic Says:

I like Paul too but I like Casey more at this point but Paul is my second favorite. I hope Paul does better next week. Last week was not his best.
Paul has a lot in common with Taylor. They both went to Auburn, live in Alabama, had a relatively successful band prior to AI, both like to dance weird but I think Taylor is a much better dancer at least so far.

  41. Casey and James are my favs. Pauls ok but his voice is a little weak. He was good on MaggieMay, but not so much last week. I hope Casey has no more health problems. I’m enjoying AI this season, they are a strong group.

  42. hicksaholic Says:

Casey just got out of the hospital yesterday after spending 3 days in there. I will be really sad if he has to leave but it’s beginning to look that way. Somebody said he could come back next year as top 12 if that happens.
I like Paul… at least he’s interesting(like Casey and Naima). Rest of the girls are pretty boring. James is good just not my kind of music, a poor man’s Adam IMO. Jacob might wind up being pretty interesting. He can be pretty over the top.

  43. PurpleButterflies Says:

Jacob is my favorite. I like Casey and Stefano too. Paul always looks drunk.

  44. casualfan Says:

Not really into Casey all that much. Don’t have a favorite as of yet. Naima is interesting. Looking forward to watching her grow and where she takes herself.

  45. mamaforpeace Says:

Liked Casey from his first audition. He reminds me of Taylor in that he seems to have a real musical library in his head, and he is very different. Talented too! Actually, I think this is a more talented group of kids than we have seen in a while on AI, and they have different strength and styles. Good variety. I like the panel too.

  46. I like Casey too. Paul not so much only on a few songs. I really like James Durbin but his ears distract me. LOL. Yes, I know I’m shallow. LOL. Jacob could be really good but his singing looks like it takes so much effort. I think he pushes his voice too much and he loses control of it. A good vocal coach could fix that. Scotty- now he is an example effortless singing. He makes it look so easy. The only draw back with Scotty is he sounds like a dozen other country male singers. But Country might embrace him anyway. The girls are good but none of them stand out for me yet.

  47. casualfan Says:

“I didn’t start playing music to get a record deal.” Raphael on the music industry.

“You make records to go to the stage, you don’t make records to make videos.” Raphael on musicianship.”Making a good record is a challenge.”
    ————————————————————————————
For many, it is indeed still about the PASSION, the MUSIC.

  48. casualfan Says:

It was no surprise to me that Casey was voted off Idol tonight. Some T fans kept saying that he reminded them of Hicks, but I never saw the comparison other than similar taste in musical style. I never saw the attraction to Casey, but I wish him luck on his musical journey.

  49. casualfan Says:

I forgot to add that IMO-the judges made a mistake in using their one save option this early in the game. Hopefully, it won’t come back to bite them in the ass.

  50. mamaforpeace Says:

We have a different opinion on this, CF. There was no one more worthy of a save than Casey.

  51. I think the singers are actually pretty good this year. There is a wide range of styles so it’s pretty up in the air who might win. Not sure any will become super stars but I think that is part of the AI problem. Just the fact that these struggling artists have a good chance of being able to make a good living doing what they love should be enough. Super stars can’t be mass produced and it is unrealistic for the critics to expect it.

  52. blueberry Says:

I’ve been meaning to give kudos re the Adele bit. I, too, have enjoyed her music – so amazingly beautiful to me. I was introduced to her music by a teenager who, thankfully, marches to his own drummer when it comes to music; otherwise, I doubt I would know about her. Such talent…

Aside from catching some videos online, I haven’t been very involved in Idol this year. But I do like Casey and James – don’t know anything much about the other contestants. It does seem from what I’ve read that there are many styles of music represented – so that should be a good thing – perhaps something for everyone!

  53. casualfan Says:

We have a different opinion on this, CF. There was no one more worthy of a save than Casey.
    ============================================
I think they are all “worthy” to win this at this point in the competition. It’s early on and the judges took that one chance away for anyone else. Part of the enjoyment I find in AI is watching how these performers grow each week and come into their own. The save should be saved for later.

There have been very few through the years on Idol that have shown their true potential early on.

  54. I wasn’t ready for any of the 11 to go home. They all can sing and a few are good entertainers. Guess my least fav would be Thia as I find her a bit boring and Pia is boring but has a better voice than Thia.

I read that Casey needed another blood transfusion on Thurs. morning. He was so stressed out after he was saved, that he hyperventilated and fell on the floor in the hallway. The tour will be stressful and I hope his health improves.

There is no run away favorite so far this season and that makes it interesting.

  55. casualfan Says:

There is no run away favorite so far this season and that makes it interesting.
    ==============================================
I agree Rosie. I found Namia (however her name is spelled) rather interesting. She has the passion to win this thing, but she needs to reign herself in a tad. This is my favorite time because we should now start seeing each-or most of them start their changes and grow.

It’s amazing with each week getting better. Even though Casey isn’t my pick, I wish him great success and most of all…improved health.

  56. After about 100 listenings of 21, Someone Like you is the song…but this one totally pulls on the heartstrings!! I know I have a fickle heart, and a bitterness, and a wandering eye and a heaviness in my head…but….

  57. Guess no Decemberist fans out there. The video I played of Colin Malloy singing to his son Henry was especially touching since his son is autistic.. Listen again if you care…

  58. casualfan Says:

Momo-Thanks for posting these vids. Just had the chance to listen. I’ve been listening to Adele more and more. Need to buy her music.

Hope all is having a great Spring so far. Looks like the rain is finally over-or getting there in my part of the country. Was great to see the sun again yesterday. =)

  59. casualfan Says:

Just watched that. Stephen Colbert is a riot.

  60. Thanks CS. It’s finally Spring in the Northeast too. Glad you got to listen to Adele. I’m out there with the kids and am spending less and less time on the computer too! Love Stephen Colbert too-a very multidimensional fellow!

  61. casualfan Says:

Colbert’s flat voice and all around demeanor of the song was funny-at least to me. Of course Fallon has this look on his face that is priceless. The dude cruising in the car capped it off. Taylor was cute also with his slide. But overall-Colbert was the man who ruled. I really enjoyed it.

On another note-I hear ya with the kids and being off the computer. No kids here but I’m busy with life and keeping off the Net. Didn’t even know about T and Fallon untill after the fact and to be honest…the earth didn’t move for me that he was even on it. Guess I’m finally passed all the Tay-hype.

Take care all and enjoy the Spring!!!!

  62. You too CF! and I’m with you on the other side of fandom….Love Colbert too! Happy Spring : )

  63. taylorfan06 Says:

A much improved version of a bad song. Just like Taylor did with Bulletproof.
Great production and A LOT of fun on the stage! I bet the audience had a blast! Taylor looked great and brought all his personality into it. I always love him on the harp. I only wish T would have been included on the platform with Jimmy and Stephen.

Good for Jimmy to wear a SP sweatshirt. He “gets” Taylor. Smart cookie. btw, any news about T coming to the West coast? Happy Spring all. It was beautiful in Long Beach, CA today.

  64. casualfan Says:

Since Rebecca Black is only 13 years old, and her voice isn’t fully developed yet, I can’t compare versions. I heard her version and I thought it was cute-flat, but cute. It’s typical of what a tween would listen to. I think it’s awesome that a youngster can gain success and have fun doing it. More power to her.

I see that T is making his rounds in Nashville and seemingly getting down to the business of music. Good for him! I wish him great success with his next cd-when it comes out.

Hope all are enjoying the warm weather 😉

  65. Still a rabid Tay fan here. He picked up almost 2000 new followers from the Friday Fallon appearance. Lots of favorable comments, which just goes to show you the power of TV and his entertainment value. Hope it lands him other bits.

Tayfan06, he has some Northwest shows. One casino show has been sold out for awhile. Follow him on twitter. Many of his tweets are humorous.

Grey, hope you are well and your life is going good.

  66. casualfan Says:

Glad to see that Taylor was finally able to perform at the cultural fest this year-sponsored by UOA. They’ve been trying to book him for the past 3 years. Brice Miller has worked very hard in coordinating the event since it’s inception a few years ago.

Brice is a displaced blues musician from Katrina that had to move his family out of New Orleans. He went to work for UOA and created this annual cultural event to help bring awarness of different music cultures to areas that don’t have the resources. Brice invited us to help coordinate the Children’s Music Village the first year of the event which is now coordinated by the Alabama Blues Foundation.

Again, THANK YOU Taylor for performing. You have no idea what this meant to Brice and the people involved with this very important cultural project. =)

  67. casualfan Says:

CONGRATS to Taylor in his restaurant venture. It is truly rewarding experience in having the resources to contribute back into the community that he was basically raised in and has the continuing support system of friends and family.

Cheers to great food, great friends and great music!

  68. Just saw the Fallon appearance. lol…Taylor looked like Taylor and belted it out, God love him. Fun! Glad it landed him some new followers.
    New music, please!

  70. Hi Lisa, what’s up? Been a long time, over 2 months since you’ve posted a word, much less your thoughts about Hicks or anyone. Hope you will let those of us who still check out your blog, know how you are doing. Selfish, honest me will admit I never met you, do not really know you, and just enjoyed you having a blog about Tay, and other musicians. You had good topics and drew comments from various fans. In 2009, this place was hopping entertainment and food for thought. 2010 was also pretty strong in Hicksland. Heck, I even found a comrad, friend in a long time adversary and visa versa. Also, one heclkler, made fun of my non paragraphs, and I have since posted everywhere in paragraphs. In this post, for old time sake, I’m doing a RUN ON ROSIE THINGI. Anyway, the nice peep in me, wishes you well, health for you and yours, friends, money, love, success, comfort, peace, stability, security and great sex for as long as! But, dang it, check in with us, Ms Lisa.
