Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Today, one of my friends introduced me to this song. She said to me, “This song makes me think of you.” I had heard of Grace Potter, but never really took the time to listen to her. Soooo wish I would have listened to her sooner. Now, this is soul.

I lost everything
I fell out of a daydream
At the door of a long lost friend
And I cried aloud
Without an inch of pride
I knew I had reached the end

An old and lonely man
Saw me sittin on the curb
He reached out an took my hand
He said I know your song
And I know your name
And there was a time that I felt the same

But it’s a low low road
You’ve gotta roll down
Before you find your way, my friend
And it’s a high, high hill
You’ve gotta climb up
Before you get to the top again

I held on so dearly
To the wrong things in my life
But now I see so clearly
I was walking into my own knife
You’ve got to get up off that street
Stop looking at your feet
And take a hold of something real
And this old man, took my hand
He looked at me and said, little girl, I understand

That it’s a low low road
You’ve gotta roll down
Before you find your way, my friend
And it’s a high, high hill
You’ve gotta climb up
Before you get to the top again

And there was a time that I thought that I knew it all
And there was a place that I thought I could call my own
But it all came crashing down and I looked around
And I knew that things would never be the same

Low low road
You’ve gotta roll down
Before you find your way, my friend
And it’s a high, high hill
You’ve gotta climb up
Before you get to the top again

It’s a low low road
You’ve gotta roll down
Before you find your way, my friend
And it’s a high, high hill
You’ve gotta climb up
Before you get to the top again
Cause it’s a low, low road
You’ve gotta roll down
It’s a low, low road

Thanks for posting these vids Grey. Love those lyrics and I can totally identify with them.

  2. Ange Bleu Says:

Interesting vids. Never heard of Grace Potter before. From the pics & vids feel she was probably around before I arrived on the scene.

  3. casualfan Says:

GC loved her and posted about her often on his blog. Tay likes her too.

  4. Raw and gritty, I like it like that.

  5. hicksaholic Says:

I have heard so many good things about this group. I would love to see them. They were around or in Mobile a few months ago I think but I couldn’t go.
GC definitely loved her long before a lot of people knew who she was.

  6. Great music. Great, soulful voice. Aimless lyrics, like most, but I like the fact that there is real searching. Most are in the fabricated dream world of our manufactured culture, and aren’t even attempting to figure out the soul.

Well said suze and so true.

  8. crazymomelon Says:

So, how can y’all be forgettin that the late great Grey Charles was in lurhve with Grace Potter?
    Never heard of her? heh.

  9. casualfan Says:

haha! Taylor tweeted that he was “vacating” and then he tweeted “his parents basement”. Now peeps are running with it thinking he’s actually moving out.

My thoughts are that he’s vacating his parents basement and going on vacation. 😉

  10. casualfan Says:

Grace Potter is awesome. I can see why GC loved her music. She’s raw, down to earth. Great Artist.

I feel a hell of a lot better knowing at least I’m not trying to figure out every Taylor statement to see what he means. I guess I have some semblance of a normal life don’t you think?

  14. casualfan Says:

It’s best to not try to figure anything out what he says hicksaholic. Lots of fans read into his statement about DWTS as he was going to be on it and look at where it got them.

If Tay says something, I always find it best to think the opposite.

  15. CF, most fans realized several weeks back with his fall schedule he would not be on DWTS this fall…However, there is still a possibility for Spring 2011 show…he may be promoting a late summer album AND he would be opposite American Idol for an interesting ratings challenge…

  16. IMO Vacating was just Taylor speak for vacation. LOL. Much like his bachelored comment a while back. His malapropisms crack me up. Sometimes he is just goofing around and playing with words and other times the wrong word just pops out of him like touretts. LOL.

    Oh, okay…good luck with that.

  18. casualfan Says:

Maybe another Broadway related project is in the works. “Never” say “Never” in Tay-“LAND”. 😉

  19. I’m curious . . . seriously. Do a lot of Taylor fans think that DWTS would be a good career move for him? Or are they merely excited at the prospect of seeing him on their TVs every week again?

Because really. Kate Gosselin did that show.

  20. Oh, and I guess I should mention Grace Potter . . . I really like her. I always get the impression that the soulfulness in her performances is completely natural and is a reflection of who she really is. Like she’s not putting on a front . . . it’s organic and real.

I remember when GC “switched over” from Joss to Grace. It was kind of funny at the time, because it seemed like on his “thud-free” blog, he was getting a little “thuddish” over Joss Stone.

Of all of the other artists that GC posted about back then, the one artist that I have really embraced and whose music I really LOVE is Sufjan Stevens. I can’t get enough of him . . . he’s so interesting.

    ===============================================
I think that some just want to see him on TV-not all, but some and don’t care what it is he does-as long as they get to see him. And no-I don’t think it would help his career at all.

Peeps thought doing “Grease” would help his career….did it help his music career? No! Did it gain him new contacts and maybe improve his skills with the press? Yes!

Can Taylor’s music career be helped? Once he gets back in the studio and puts out some new music…that will tell the tale.

  22. Soulaz good point. Wanting to see him on TV every week is the only reason I can think of that anyone would be in favor of this. It’s a bad idea. I just know he would not be able to keep his “goofyness” in. LOL. While the SP may embrace his inner goofy that is a big part of the slams he still gets today. It just turned off a lot of people. The media does mention frequently that the DWTS contestants are from the B list trying to re start their careers. A few have been B+ and some can get away with it and not get slammed but I’m sure Taylor would not be given the benefit of the doubt.

  23. casualfan Says:

I agree with that Dee and that’s the main reason I don’t think it would benefit him.

Some factions in the SP embrace anything Taylorized as long as they get to see him. I personally prefer him going utr for awhile to write music and produce a quality cd and come out well rested, focused. But it’s Tay’s career.

  24. If you google DWTS you get 80,000,000 vs only 67,900,000 for all things American Idol which has been on longer than DWTS. It is the #1 show and several news agencies reported right away the new season’s line up. It is great exposure for anyone who is one it. Kate has all sorts of offers since that show. The money is good but the exposure is great. I have every confidence Tay would do fine and there are always people who will say why did they pick this one or that one. It is my opinion Tay has not been asked and would jump at the chance to be on a #1 national TV show. I have no clue as to why so many of his fans have been discussing the pros and cons of him going on DWTS, or think he has been offered the opportunity. The fans are the ones who brought it up, not Taylor.

  25. casualfan Says:

Taylor mentioned DWTS several times Rosie and made the comment about KG. That’s where all of that got started, so yes…it was Tay that brought it up but it was the fans that ran with it.

  26. casualfan Says:

On another note….soulaz, is this who you are talking about?

  27. casualfan Says:

Rosie, Not everyone who goes on DWTS has had their career jumpstarted back up-at least not long term and KG was already on the minds of the current populace with her reality TV show. Just because something is hip, currant and gets tons of google hits, doesn’t make it the best fit for someone.

Perhaps if Tay can get into a permanent gig where he can showcase his true talent…as a musician is where he will build his fanbase up for the long haul. A really nice casino or night club would be awesome for him.

  28. Yeah, CF . . . that’s who I was talking about! I can’t go much longer than a couple days without listening to his music. I love his lyrics and his persona, both live and in studio recordings, just reflect this kind of “inner peace” that makes me feel peaceful when I listen to him.

  29. Personally, I would see a run on DWTS pretty much the same way that I viewed his run on Grease. An unfortunate distraction from the business of creating a viable, long term music career.

And for the record, terming many of the DWTS contestants as even “B-list” is quite generous. The upcoming season will feature the dance stylings of David Hasselhoff, Margaret Cho, “The Situation,” Bristol Palin, Kyle Massey from “That’s So Raven” and Florence Henderson, etc.

Okay, Mrs. Brady totally rocks forever . . . but you get my drift.

  30. The only way Taylor will get respect from fans, peers and critics, is to make really, really good music. Nothing else will work. I still think he needs to go totally country-blues and forget soul and pop. I think he would well with Allman Bros/Black Crows/Kid Rock/Rascal Flatts/Zac Brown type of music.

He should stay away from anything lounge act or Vegas. He does not do pop well at all.

  31. Rosie the fact that DWTS has that many viewers is a resaon for him NOT to be on. IMO. I would not want that many people viewing him as a B-lister. He fights that enough already. Plus let’s face it all we have to do is look at the Grease Encore to see he can’t do scripted dance. LOL

  32. casualfan Says:

Raven, If Tay had the right venue to do a constant run for about 6 mos or so, I feel he would benefit.

The “stars” that go on DWTS for the most part have already seen their hay day with successful careers and they go on that show to get the attention. Taylor’s career hasn’t been properly nurtured and really hasn’t had the chance to grow into it’s full potential. IMO-Tay doesn’t need DWTS or mass exposure to get noticed…he needs good music, a good long term business plan and the proper support behind him AND a willingness on his part to make certain compromises. One can do that without giving up their musical integrity. All the pieces to the puzzle are there for him…they only need to be put together carefully for that perfect fit.

  33. As I recall, fans started tweeting him about DWTS and began discussing it on blogs. Finally at one point he said. “DWTS, ya never know”. Then some fans got even more into the idea and they have asked him during the chats and still tweet him about it. The current cast of DWTS will all be on some talk shows. It sure helped Kelly Osbourn. It is better to be seen as a B,C or D lister, than not on the list at all. He was on no list when he auditioned for AI. but he sure was during his run on the show.

  34. Not going to bother to try to look it up but I do think it came from Taylor first in an interview. No matter where or how it started it’s still a bad idea. LOL.

  35. This is the only association Taylor should have with DWTS.

“Season 11 premieres Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. All 12 couples will dance either the Viennese Waltz or the Cha Cha,and the couple with the lowest scores will be sent home on Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. on the results show. Carlos Santana and Daughtry are slated to perform. Get ready to join our live chats during performance shows.”

  36. casualfan Says:

Taylor first brought up DWTS when he mentioned wanting to date KG. He then made some second handed comments about the show on Twitter. It grew from there.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter where or how it got started. Hopefully, he has the right people in place to make well informed decisions that will benefit him as an Artist and cultivate his career and not just be seeking another 15 mins of fame fix.

As a supporter of his music…I want him to sustain and not be made a laughing stock at the mercy of the scrupulous media hounds.

  38. “LAND”? Broadway? CF?????????

  39. crazymomelon Says:

    Hoo boy.
Sometimes, this is what I think:
Taylor’s flashes of brilliance are tempered by his Larry, Daryl and Darrell death grip on reality. You know, ‘Anything for a buck’? “I’ll never turn down ANY gig”, Taylor says. Unfortunately, his penchant for wanting to be in charge of every aspect of his career has effectively placed his artistry in a box. Right next to the boxes labeled ‘Airline Reservations’, ‘Bus rental’, ‘Merchandise’ and the one marked ‘My Next Paying Gig’.
    So, that’s what I think..sometimes.

  41. casualfan Says:

LOL Crazymomelon….You may be on to something.

  42. Wow…so many good points. I agree that DWTS would not help his career, in much the same vein as Grease did not help his music career.

    And this:

    Right on, sister. Amen.

Oh, and I love Sufjan Stephens too, Soulaz!

  43. Crazymom, that is an interesting perspective and food for thought.

  44. If everyone who goes on DWTS is a b lister then why do so many people watch the show? As far as Tay singing pop, I like his pop rock singing. He does a good job with Stay With Me, Love The One Your With, Bulletproof, I Hear You Knocking and Ain’t Gonna Hurt Nobody. I don’t want him holed up somewhere writing the next Soul Thing, The Deal, The Fall or New Found Freedom. Those songs got him nowhere.

  45. Don’t put New Found Freedom in the same sentence as the Fall. Just sayin’…

  46. casualfan Says:

I don’t want him holed up somewhere writing the next Soul Thing, The Deal, The Fall or New Found Freedom. Those songs got him nowhere.
    ==========================================
All of this just translated out to…he can’t write and he’s better off doing covers.

Ppl watch DWTS because it’s entertaining.

Grey is right…putting The Fall in with those other songs is plain wrong.

  47. Haha. He can write good songs but I don’t know if they’d get radio play. Do you think if someone had written Bulletproof just for him, it would be a hit? I agree with what CF said about him getting a 6 month gig someplace, where by word of mouth and a few good reviews, he could get some recognition.

  48. casualfan Says:

We can say all we want but the bottom line is what Tay wants to do. Sorry, but so far his way isn’t working very well. Hopefully, he is now listening to his support team and it will all pay off for him.

On a humorous note…The SP Twits have all went bonkers. One told him to not worry about Twitter and get some rest…LMAO! Another one is begging for a Bday shout out (on deaf ears so far) and he told another Twit that he’s going to vacation in Cuba! I think that’s Tay speak for “Not yo business” while yet another one has been tweeting every pic she’s ever taking of him. (Just send him the damn link…hell!) These peeps are crawling all over each other for his attention.

Twitter is like comedy hour at times. Beats the hell out of what’s on TV.

  49. mamaforpeace Says:

People who vacation in Cuba come back very enthusistic about the country and the people.

  50. casualfan Says:

    LOL!

BTW-I have video from the show I went to but having problems with uploading onto the computer. The software sucks but the camera is great. It will hopefully be available shortly here. 😉

  51. I don’t know why so many people watch DWTS….. But I have a feeling they are the same people who watch the Idol auditions. LOL. And none of them are even D-listers. LOL.

  52. taylorfan06 Says:

    Observations:

It’s so funny that whatever topic, non Taylor related here, Taylor ALWAYS becomes the focus again. That’s because this really is a Taylor Hicks site, and that’s a great thing!, even though some here may dispute that. Hello? “It’s All Grey” – total Taylor reference.

And for those here that say that Taylor needs to good songs to make…
The man has PLENTY of good songs! The problem stems around airplay and perceived image.

I have pretty much given up on trying to convince people I know to listen to Taylor. I even hate when his name comes up when I am around them. I get bothered by the unfounded snipes of someone they have no clue about.

Sadly, this really seems to be the consensus out there. For whatever reason, in reality, Taylor has become a joke to many, and it’s easier for people to just become sheep and believe that hype. My friends are evidently part of that sheepdom. *head shaking back and forth*

Us followers, and there are many, are really seen jokes ourselves, eben those thinking their “normal” fans, to follow someone who is a “has been”, or worse, a “never been”. to the majority we’re all lumped together as just “taylor freaks”. we can shake our heads at them and vice versa. Us and Them, for sure.

Taylor has recorded MANY, MANY songs that are very worthy of getting airplay, and yes, even songs from TD. That’s the problem. HE DOESN’T GET AIRPLAY. and he may never get airplay. There’s the real reality, ladies.

Stop with the “even only he had a good song” jive. The good songs were there even before AI. Unfortunately, he just hasn’t become an artist worthy of accolades and respect, even though we here could give them a list of his accomplishment since the start. It just doesn’t matter.

Taylor got jipped. BIG TIME!!! When i hear a “hit song”, or really any current song on the radio today, i just cringe that someone actually likes those songs. In my mind I’ll compare that song with really any Taylor Hicks song and wonder why it’s not on the radio. It’s just an outrage.

I will always be a fan of Taylor’s, but I have no plan on criticizing the music delivers, because in my view it’s much better than the majority of “songs” today.

I really get annoyed by those who have to put him down at every turn, non fans mostly, but even “fans” themselves. He records what he likes and what works for HIM. that’s the bottom line, just like any singing artist. Can you honestly say that all the Top 10 albums on the chart today can be called great records? probably not. I mean groups like the black eyed peas, lady caca, katy perry, eminem. i’ve listened to many of the new releases, and trust me taylor’s music is SO much better. not even being biased. with that being the case, it really bothers me that people are saying his songs aren’t “good”. are those other artists songs really better? the answer is a resounding NO! they just happen to be more popular.

That is part of the reason I really don’t care for award shows anymore, be it the grammys, oscars, or more recently the emmys. it’s a little like high school. who’s popular, who’s not. boring i say. what makes one really better than the other. it’s all just relative.

i’m very proud to be a taylor hicks fan and will always be! again,
I’M VERY PROUD TO BE A TAYLOR HICKS FAN AND ALWAYS WILL BE!

coming here is a safe haven to express the way i feel about the guy, his music, and the effect he has had on my life. i’ve learned more about myself from being a fan of his. i think taylor gets it too. you just can’t change people. they are who they are and it’s up them to change, or not! there’s really nothing he can do but stay true to himself.

taylor has so many “good”, make that great songs and i’m happy to play them over and over AND OVER again with great pleasure. that applies also to the many many artists that taylor has influenced me to add to my music library. that’s where it becomes “ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC”.

i’ve always saw taylor as an old soul from the start, and one with such musical depth. that’s way up there for the reason i follow his career so avidly.

Taylor can, and has, written some great stuff, but with NO AIRPLAY, it’s all for not! We can enjoy it, and if others just don’t “get” it, the problem is theirs.

Like politics, this is a subject where we can just agree to disagree. The argument for Taylor being worthy of major stardom will most like continue to be disputed as sad as that is.

I know what I like, and I like what I know. That’s my only defense for being a die hard Taylor fan for life. I “get” him and LOVE what he delivers. And yes, that includes TD too! There were at least four songs, more if i had my way, that would have been great for radio. Thank god for my ipod where i can listen to Taylor anytime, anywhere. Life is Good in that respect.

BRAVO, TF6!! On your post we are in complete agreement. You echo my thoughts exactly! Forever fan , for sure!

  60. I saw the 2 tweets to Tay, paraphrased, here’s a thought, is it 2 much to ask 4 u to tweet your long time fans, now and then. They must think he keeps a list of who has seen the most shows and spent the most money and been on the boards the longest and that he owes them. There is no such list, and they should wish that for his career he respond to new or casual fans. Anyway it seems those bullying tweets turned him off from tweeting. Some fans lack common sense. His time is best spent engaging new or casual fans. It is that old front row seats thingie, once again.

  61. TF6-I love this blog because we are free to talk about other musicians, celebrate their music AND of course talk Taylor. 😉

    That’s what it’s all about!!!!

  62. They must think he keeps a list of who has seen the most shows and spent the most money and been on the boards the longest and that he owes them. There is no such list
    ==============================================
LOL Rosie! Don’t be so sure there isn’t. Both Tay and Bill have photographic memories….literally!

  63. TF6. I think you are right. There have been several of Taylor’s songs that could have made it on the radio. I don’t listen to the radio much and my 24 year old daughter says she’d rather listen to her I-Pod. There are several older musicians who have complained they can’t get radio play any more. These are famous artists who had numerous hits. So what happened? They didn’t just stop writing good songs after they hit age 45 or 50? Who knows what the deal is about radio. How do they pick the handful of songs that get played over and over again? Some say Payola, others say Payola doesn’t exist anymore. So what is the criteria? It can’t be good songs with all the crappy songs that are being played. Are they just playing what their listeners want to hear? Well if that was the case there would not be so many people switching to their I-Pods and to the internet for their music. Doesn’t make any sense to me.

  64. Dee, I don’t listen to the radio anymore. If I do, it’s independent radio stations. My cable company has music channels that I love also.

I don’t like The Distance CD, other than Nineteen and TD. I really can’t stomach much country music unless it’s country pop. I didn’t like UTR or IYT. I LOVED the Taylor Hicks CD and DIMYP. TD, UTR, IYT didn’t do as well as TH and DIMYP. Either it was because he didn’t have a major label backing him, or the people who voted for him loved him best singing the way he sang on AI and after the TH CD, they didn’t like what he made next. I really miss the way that Taylor sang on AI. Not singing covers, but just the way he sang. I sometimes wonder how TD CD would have done if Taylor had a major record label backing him. At any rate, it’s okay to not like everything that an artist creates. You can love an artist but not like all of their work.

Well said PBF and that’s my argument along with others here. But sadly, some think that if he’s on a popular show that it automatically gives him more exposure. I for one want him to get positive exposure for his MUSIC and not for dance moves the media will rip apart.

Now if Tay performed on DWTS as a guest like Daughtry/Santana will be…that is positive exposure that will help meet his objective.

WOW pb!! well, like me, i guess everyone has an opinion.
I am glad that you liked TH by Taylor. that cd actually has my least favorite song of Taylor’s, “Dream Myself Awake”, written by the very generic Rob Thomas. I do like the line ‘I can’t get enough of you baby… ” though.

Re: IYT and UTR, I’m surprised you didn’t like anything on those cd’s. I loved the raw, hungry of T just doing what he loves. I still read about people naming songs from those cd’s as favorites of taylor’s. but then again, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I’d love to see T do both cd’s in their entirety. Now that would be some show. It would have been so cool to hear “West Texas Sky” thrown in on one of his recent shows, or even “Tighten Up”. He really Taylorized that one.

So let me just get this straight, you really don’t care for the following songs? I’ll list just a few that the real fans really love.

    The Fall
    Somehow
    Georgia
In Your Time (i LOVE that bluesy dixie land vibe near the end)
    Hold On To Your Love
    The Deal
    Seven Mile Breakdown
    Maybe You Should
    Woman’s Gotta Have It
    Indiscriminate Act of Kindness
Hell of A Day (love that vocal, and it was a treat seeing T perform that for my b-day in San Diego) …well not FOR my b-day….

I’ll stop with those, even though i could list others. I guess you’re one of those who feel that Taylor doesn’t have any “good” songs. I mean one cd does not an artist.

Since you do post here, you must like some of the live recordings that have made the rounds. Do you like some of these?:

    Ain’t No Sunshine
    Compared To What
    Sweet Home Chicago
    Dancing Queen
    Abraham, Martin, and John
    People Get Ready
    Happier With Him

    ..of course, i could go on. …but i won’t

i was just surprised to read you didn’t care for his pre AI cd’s.
They were never released for wide distribution, so who know how many copies either on sold. Myself, I hear them as classic Taylor, especially IYT which was recorded pretty much live and when T was a mere 19 or 20. that really amazes me to hear such a commanding voice and raw talent who fortunately did get a break.

regardless, how he is rec’d by the masses, he definitely is a household.
I guess that is something in itself anyway. I hope the next cd will be more enjoyable for you. just my 2 cents and curiosity that got me posting here.

    that was household name, btw.

  74. We all have different taste. I also happened to like the TH CD best and I often listen to it driving in my car because I haven’t grown tired of the songs. It sold the best because it came out the yr he won AI and was on a major label. It would have sold at least twice as many if some of the songs had radio play. I don’t know what he was thinking when he put The Distance together. He may have been confused by reading that fans liked his old stuff, or he should do country to get radio play. It was just all over the place and I only like about 3 songs on it. While he can sing WRIR well live and with tags, it was not a good 1st single and the video did make him look like an ageing lounge singer. I don’t blame him at all for being confused and not putting out a great product, considering all that he’d been thru post his AI win. But on this latest tour he seems to have his act together with choosing some good copy songs, his chatiness, and his voice seems better than ever.

  75. TF6-We all get it…..you are a devoted fan who loves, adores and is dedicated to everything Taylor does, says. Hooray for you!

Next time you have the opportunity to speak with Taylor, ask him if he knows Purplebutterfly. Take note in the way his eyes light up with appreciation for all the support she’s given him over the years with the troop drive and other projects that have benefited him. Then apologize to her for accusing her of not being a “real fan”. 😉

  76. Rosie-For me at least, the TH cd was awful. It wasn’t the songs themselves but the over producing and karaoke style. It wasn’t Taylor so much as it was the production. I hope he will take some of those songs back into the studio and remix into his own blend in time. They have great potential.

“The Distance” I don’t think he was confused at all on. Seems like he was exploring his music genres and trying to find the right fit. He wanted to give everyone a little something different. I actually like TD much better than the TH one because that CD is Taylor.

IMO-the pre-Idol work can’t be matched. IYT and UTR are true classic Taylor and I keep hoping that he finds a medium to marry both sounds together on his future work.

We can think, say and have all the opinions we want, but I think we all agree that Taylor brings all of his work alive on stage and takes it all to another dimension.

  77. Bravo, CF!
That “real” fan business always rubs me the wrong way.

And showing my ignorance here, but taylorfan06 is a guy, right?
May be getting my “real” fans mixed up – ha ha.

  78. No ignorance quondam.

  79. To FH-Yo! Because of you I now have a new music obsession. I’ve been digging and rooting for information on Train the past few days and completely submerged in their music. Thanks alot pal! 😉

  80. I did not read where TF06 said PBF was not a fan. Enthusiasm is a good thing. Why act like the blog police and criticise Tf06? I just watched the Miss. gulf special on the Hallmark channel as I don’t get the other station. They showed both SMB and WRIR.

  81. Rosie, his entire post was mocking and criticising PBF’s remarks about her opinion of T’s music.

I know I’m not the only one on this blog that see’s that.

And just to be clear about something….when you talk about there being nothing wrong about enthusiasm, that includes the enthusiasm we have for other Artists-besides Taylor right? So there’s no need to get all worked up into a froth when others are discussed.

I really love the Taylor Hicks CD and consider those Taylor’s songs too. I think that every song on the CD is excellent. Taylor has good songs. But no one has to like everything he sings. It’s not a rule to being a fan of an artist. That mindset got old a long time ago.

  83. Having that said…..someone explained that GC gave up Joss Stone in favor of Grace Potter. I really like Grace Potter but I can’t imagine given up Joss. She’s the best.

  84. PurpleButterflies Says:

I did not read where TF06 said PBF was not a fan.
    ———–
There aren’t too many ways to take the following “I’ll list just a few that the real fans really love.”

  85. OK, i didn’t read that sentence carefully to notice the word real and can see that one could take TF06s post as a lecture or put down. There are a few fans who say they love every song Tay has recorded. I don’t love or enjoy every song on any CD by any artist. CF you keep mixing me up with someone else. I have never complained about other artist being feature on this blog. I also don’t compare one idol contestent to another. Taylor is on vacation and that is when arguements seem to occur. TF06 and all of us could be taken out of context or have others read too much into what we write. And sometimes we, or I, just like to bitch a tad.

  86. Perhaps a few more from the BB and other places would post here if we weren’t so critical or closed minded. Crazymomelon comments showed insight and I think a few other BB posters and lurkers feel inhibited there as to what they feel they should say. It seems all sites tend to take on a group mentality, which is a shame.

  87. mamaforpeace Says:

Rosie, I think overall, this is a pretty positive place as far as respecting other’s opinions. It gets out of hand sometimes, but people often come back and apologize. In any case, no one should take any of this too seriously… It’s just a blog, mostly of people we’ve never met (at least, I didn’t!). People should feel free to post their opinions, and not get too bent out of shape if someone gets a little snippy. Hopefully, it’s a relief from real life problems. JMO:)

  88. mama, I agree that overall it is very positive for being able to give one’s opin. And we do, most of us, most of the time get along or apologize when we goof or snipe. I think the success lies in the fact IAG does not moderate very often. Sometimes I thought she doesn’t give a damn and goes with the flow except when things get out of hand. lol Not a bad policy. The other plus going for this blog is that there is no long time mega fan, who tries to explain how it is supposed to be done, who uses the words we do this or that. People who post here do seem to be in reality about his career and music and popularity. They know and acknowledge his talents and do make thoughtful comments from their souls.

  89. PurpleButterflies Says:

cf, thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it. One thing though. Taylor doesn’t know me by PBF. He knows me by my first and last name. Just wanted to clear that up in case anyone asks him if he knows me. He will say no if anyone says PBF, and then that hateful blog that bashes fans will run with it. LOL

  90. I apologize Rosie. Guess there are two Rosie’s posting here. One of you got upset when I mentioned JM and also made the snarky comment about how I always bring up other musicians when we should all be discussing Taylor. Perhaps the other Rosie should put a number or something behind the name. 😉

Also, don’t think for a min that Grey isn’t moderating because she’s watching very carefully and observing.

  91. Well, I didn’t want to announce your name on a public board, but I would assume that the mention of the troop drive to Tay would ring a bell. I know it did when I asked him. =)

  92. CF, what in the hell are you talking about? Who is JM? You have gone on about a lot of other singers, but so what. WTH! Sorry I’m lost. Why are you being snarky? Taylor on vacation??? Should we all get paranoid about Grey observing each and every post? Will we be graded? CF, lighten up, I was just making conversation.

  93. I’m in a great mood Rosie. Just confused is all. JM=John Mayer but you know that already.

  94. Taylor at Grand Junction CO 081910 just after Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad and before What’s Right Is Right http://www.sendspace.com/file/dugnon

“Here’s a soulful number off the last record that I did called The Distance. I’m really proud of that effort because I had total creative freedom on it, you know. Nobody really breathing down my neck to, you know, to dress up in a spaceship outfit and sell pop records, you know what I’m saying”

  95. Thanks for bringing that over cochem. That’s the reason I like TD much better than the TH cd. I didn’t care for all the songs, but his creative freedom was the heart of it.

  96. So, does the Soul Patrol patrol fan’s souls and fan behavior? I think some are taking the word “patrol” literally. So, who is the head fan patroller? Lol!

  97. Raven, it sure seems that way sometimes
