  1. But . . . Taylor can’t even remember the lyrics to his own songs! Should be interesting, hee hee.

  2. It kinda sucks that his PSA,s have been put on hold. Bad timing for that as well as him buying property on the gulf shortly before the oil rig explosion. His SOS song was done well but his voice cracked on one word but no matter as he sounded good overall. Maybe he is cut out to do such songs as he did well with DIMYP. Taylor has been real lately with twitter. Back when he won AI, people thought an American idol winner or contestent had to be wholesome. Fantasia had some slings due to being a young unwed mom. She, had balls like Tay, went on the show, couldn’t read well and won. Good for Taylor for practicing a bit of free wheeling thoughts and engaging in typing them for anyone out there to read.

  3. Maybe he can appear on that show that is similar to the old Candid Camera, except they have a celeb pretending to be a clerk in a store. I can’t think of the name of the show, but it is on a main network. I can see him playing along and doing that, when peeps say he looks like that grey haired guy who won AI. One has to be all over TV to be known by the public. I have friends with cable who have never seen Taylor or even Kelly or Daughtry on TV. But they do know who Carrie Underwood is because she is on TV and magazine covers.

    Yep, it will be interesting.

He did have a few tweets that could be taken as snark towards one or two. Good stuff indeed.

I did finally hear the entire song Rosie. I can’t find it on Itunes but got it on Amazon. What’s up with that…or am I blind?

  6. CF, I spent about half an hr on Itunes searching and couldn’t find it. Somehow I ended up being thrown out of Itunes. So then I approached it as a new customer and realized that despite or due to all their ads about everything they offer, the site is a mess of confusion. Amazon was so easy. Also Amazon listed it as #108 and with Itunes you can only find the top 100. The fact there was not an announced release and that the writer is listed as the artist, is just one more screw up. As far as twiiter, he’s come a looong way since flavor of the day. Someone said he wrote WTF. That was wild and and a bit of a no no to a few fans, as was dildo a few wks back. I wasn’t around for the comments about Hollywood Nights, so I’m enjoying the rare few hints about the net and twitter being public.

  7. Soulaz: HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!

And yeah, he’s been “real” on Twitter…. I really have to say he’s funnier on Twitter than he is in person with fans… Taylor Smart, right??

  8. Hi there YKW! I think Taylor is very Smart. I also think he is real, talented and a sober go getter. He knows what to say and do as required for the biggest impact. I not only admire his voice, a god given or genetic thing, but him bucking his college degree, the usual way to security. While I had a worse childhood than he, I can relate to his. While I was female and had the advantage of finishing college, way back when, I choose something else. Perhaps I relate better to where he was and is, a bit better than you. I don’t mean to preach and I have poked fun at him and some of his fans. I guess all you and I have in common now is enjoying his new tweeting style, and so at least we share that. His tweets the past month have been real and fun.

  9. casualfan Says:

I love seeing this side of him. For the peeps who don’t like it, sorry to say but that is who Taylor is. He’s full of piss and vinegar who also has a heart of pure gold.

  10. Yes, we all have to piss several times a day. I don’t know if in fact he has a heart of pure gold, but I enjoyed him on Idol as he entertained and was different. I read his book and had nothing to diss, and laughed about his reveal of loosing his virginity at 18 and thought oh wow, or oh my about him trying to organize the top 24 in a revolt of the AI policy. His win brought instant fame, but he seemed so guarded, uptight and now I get why. He is just a person with a great voice and drive for success. He wanted success in music but having to deal with instant fame is a whole nother thing. The fans were all over him from day one. Hopefully now, he can be more of himself and quite a bit less concerned about anyone else. That is so hard to do as we all have others to consider.

  11. casualfan Says:

Rosie, Taylor has done many good things for various organizations that the most aren’t aware of. Taylor has more than shown his affection for children’s charities and is very sensitive to their needs. He’s gone out of his way to accommodate-many of which is private between him and those organizations. So yes, he does indeed have a heart of gold.

  12. casualfan Says:

That would be “that most” and not “that the most”

  13. I listened to a snippet of the song for SOS, and it didn’t exactly light a fire of excitement in my loins . . . having said that, I’ll pony up a dollar to support a worthy charity. I don’t actually think of this as a Taylor Hicks song. The song, I’m sure, belongs to the charity and Taylor just lent his voice to sing it for them. I’m sure that all decisions about how to sell it, and how they will market it, comes directly from them. I have no clue how these things work. But I am sure that the good folks at SOS know how these things work, and have some sort of plan in place to actually make money off the song.

As for Taylor’s tweets? It’s a shame his recent chattiness came so late . . . he should have doing this kind of thing two years ago. Mainly because back then, I would have been all excited and tweeting him incessantly and been all swoony if he tweeted me back.

But, who am I to judge? It’s hard work being a sober go-getter who is full of piss and vinegar, with a heart of gold . . . 😀

  14. Oh, and I’ll put aside my snark for a moment to say that I believe the “heart of gold” part is true . . . he has given a lot of himself for worthy causes. He’s a good guy.

  15. Soulaz, you are funny and fun with your comments and snark. I don’t tweet him now, and what twiiter is not even 2 yrs old. He would have had to have sent you a personal message on his myspace 2yrs ago. I don’t swoon even now, no matter the pics I see or the tweets he types. Hell, the most sexy pic I ever saw of him was one of him in bed, awake, but tucked in. Maybe BW took it… CF, he is way more a good guy then a bad guy. I do get his charity giving. Just know that one is always SOBER when they decide on a plan to go for it. Who’s to say how sober they are when they get it. But tweets are always GOOD from the man.

  16. casualfan Says:

But tweets are always GOOD from the man.
    ======================================================
    Well said Rosie.

soulaz-I’m with you on the non-greatness of the song, but I will be more than happy to support the charity. Anyone that works on benefiting children gets my support. 😉

  17. Soulaz stated she only listened to a snippet of the song. My opinion is he did his best with the tune and lyrics. While the SOS is repetative Taylor brings soulfulness and a variance to the tempo, gritty, loud, growls and playful softness to it. I’m being fair and honest. He seemed to do his best or the best with it.

  18. casualfan Says:

It’s all good Rosie. If we all had the same opinions, it would be mundane and boring. 😉

  19. Soulaz, I was going to say the same thing about Taylor and his lyrics. I really can’t wait to see that show!

As for the SOS song…I think Taylor did a good job with it, and it goes to charity, so that’s what’s really important.

He really is cracking me up on Twitter, though. It’s nice to get a peek at his psyche. 😉

  20. hicksaholic Says:

How do you see both sides of the tweet- the sender and the response? If you only see one side it doesn’t make much sense.
Maybe when Taylor first won AI he had so many fans he hated the lack of privacy he had. Now with a much smaller fanbase perhaps he is more open to fan interaction, at least from afar.

  21. casualfan Says:

hicksaholic-you can see the tweet he was responding to by looking under the tweet and clicking on the “in reply to crystalbowersox” located under his tweet.

ex:TAYLORRHICKS- @crystalbowersox HEY!!! How is the tour? Are we going to have a harp duel or what!!

  22. casualfan Says:

You can’t read the other person’s tweet if their tweets are protected or have been deleted.

  23. Jenni Jac did a detailed recap of the tweets on the BB twitter thread. Seems Tay was reading about and hinting Payola was invoved. He was sarcastic about not having a video and single released with his TH CD. The sisters would have been all over the payola thing, but being such huge, bestest Tay fans ever they are no longer around.

  24. His tour now has 15 dates. He added San Fran, Lincoln NE, Cleveland Madison WI and Teaneck NJ. I’m liking his personality reveal on twitter.

  25. casualfan Says:

Payola has been around since the beginning and is in every industry so it’s no surprise or shouldn’t be. People want to blame payola for everything-including songs not making it onto the radio. Not all music is radio friendly and it has nothing to do with payola.

Taylor himself has recognized that he’s best live on stage. His gift is creating the magic on the stage combined with his passion and emotional love for the music. If Taylor wants to record, perhaps he should press his music on vinyl and forget the cd’s. Vinyl captures the artistry and is making a comeback. 😉

  26. casualfan Says:

I see T is adding more shows to his “tour”. Hopefully, he won’t have to cancel any of them due to poor tkt sales. Alot of artists are having to cancel-including the AI tour dates in some cities. The economy still sucks and people are careful with their spending. He will be practically in my backyard with 2 scheduled shows, but I won’t be going to them. I’m glad he’s out on the road.

  27. I’m a bit worried about his shows and I’m sure he is also. The fact he said we all know having a video and a single released before a CD, doesn’t help sales, lol, finally tells me he wanted both a vid and a single released out of the gate. TPTB must have been punishing him for not signing with management. I’ve spent a fortune this year on my teeth, furniture, home repairs and it hurts. My charge cards have a big balance, so I’m cutting corners.

  28. Fairhope Says:

Okay. Someone please explain to this special needs child what is meant by PAYOLA. K???

  29. casualfan Says:

LOL! It’s basically the record companies paying radio stations to play certain music. That’s the basic.

  30. One thing about the Taylor Hicks CD that was just so bizaar, was how it disappeared from the stores about 6 months after its release. He was certified platinum but only sold 700 some thousand. People tend to buy what they see and It was crazy that you couldn’t find it in any stores around here.

  31. Ange Bleu Says:

Taylor’s CD disappeared from stores in my area about 4 or 5 mos. after being released. Just strange. Did he actually sell about 700,000. I’ve read that the amount sold world-wide is now l,000,000+. The weather here is just beautiful — about 75degrees max. Very cool in the mornings.

  32. I will guarantee you that it wasn’t anything supernatural that made it disappear.

  33. casualfan Says:

SOS is moving up on the Itunes charts! Cool Beans! T has another charity project in the works…hope it’s just as successful 😉

  34. Fairhope Says:

    Me too, CF!!

  35. Darn! I still haven’t been able to hear the whole SOS song. Hopefully soon tho. Looking forward to Tay in concert. I was happy to read about him picking out his tour bus! 🙂

  36. Fairhope Says:

    Wake up people!!

  39. I wish a lot of the old posters who no longer post here would drop by to say what they think of the new tweeting, bus touring Taylor. He’s added another stop in Springfield IL. Since he hasn’t toured since 07, this is going to be such fun. Sos is the most requested song on Wizard internet radio and the guy said Tay should include it on his tour. Ya know how he changes things up and I bet he’d do a great live version. I’m hoping for my fav, Hollywood Nights. On another note, I find it amazing that he’s bought a house and none of the SP knows where.

  40. casualfan Says:

I’m sure “Soul Patrol Investigations” will get that info soon enough, complete with surveillance, GPS maps.

Try Twitter…seems to be a great source of entertainment lately. Cyber-bullies are in full swing, along with peeps begging for him to reply to them. Some are even brazen enough to create multiple Twitter accounts to stalk, harass and be downright nasty. “Soul Patrol Investigations” seems to have implemented an interrogation unit dedicated to questioning the validations of some tweets.

Seriously, grab some popcorn and your favorite drink and watch the festivities. It can be quite entertaining. 😉

  42. Hicks and FH live in the gulf area. It’s cool that he’s kept silent about where he lives and most likely it is gated. I’m liking Tay’s suggestive tweets with some of his tweeters. Smart move on his part to keep up the interest. My son and DIL in Northern VA were big fans, voted for him on AI, bought his 2 major CD’s, took tiny kids to see him on a 100 degree day for an outdoor concert in 07 and checked him out on TV back then. But they didn’t like The Distance CD, have lost interest in him and aren’t going to see him close by at The Birchmere. Guess it is a case of out of site out of mind.

  43. I know that many thought Haghater was Notmyname 02. I did read where some seem to be begging for him to respond to them, and are whiny and demanding.

  44. casualfan Says:

It’s always the same peeps who love to assume that one poster is another. It’s one thing to speculate in private but to hound and harass someone on an open blog/forum is another. Taylor has made it clear that he does not like bullies and wants nothing to do with them. His fans should follow his lead.

  45. Fairhope Says:

So…..Rosie? Where in the gulf area does Tay live????? Would y’all like me to track him down? Knock on his door? Prance around in my thong/string bikini??

  46. Fairhope Says:

But seriously, how do you know he bought a house???

  47. taylorfan06 Says:

listening to the songs on the radio today is not what it used to be.
i really find it a travesty that so many of T’s radio friendly songs never made the airwaves. thank god for my ipod and the 350 plus songs that T occupies there. and yes, i really do listen to more than T on my ipod.
with over 13000 songs, i listen to a very extensive mix of all types of great music. there are so many others songs on my ipod that, like T, never got airplay they deserved.

anyway, i’m thrilled for T and the response he’s getting from his tweets and the upcoming touring and stuff. i’d love to see him live again! i do hope he makes his way to the west coast. i’ll definitely be there. be there! be there!!!!

i hope he finds himself on an upswing, but regardless of the outcome, T will always be an artist that i will continue to follow (don’t take that literally) because i just love that “voice” and that talent that like so many of his “get”. bottom line, the man is just a treasure.

as i’m writing this, i’m listening to another amazing artist, harry nilsson, who i feel also did things his way. he was a great talent with such a pure voice, but didn’t always go with the mainstream. you really have to respect those artists with that kind of integrity to rely mainly on their talent. i would definitely place T in that category.

i think the next cd will be much different from TD and will hopefully bring a resurgence to his career, which i believe is really going much better than many would believe. he continues his strong work ethic and i see a man who is happy doing it his way.

maybe soon “everybody’s talking” about Taylor Hicks. that would be music to my ears. yes, indeed!

  49. FH, for one thing with all his money, he’d be nuts to spend more than a wk in his dad’s basement these days. He’s been in Bama on and of since Grease ended May 23rd. Back in April, some guy in the Gulf area tweeted he was painting Taylor’s house. Tay mentioned in a recent interview, very recent, that he owned property in the gulf area. He also tweeted a few wks ago that he was unpacking boxes. Should you FH, or hicksaholic find out the spot, you could charge big money to share the info. A SP bikini brogade outside his door, may drive him to become an agoraphobic.

  50. hicksaholic Says:

    FH,
Sounds like a road trip to me. Can you drug the old fart and I’ll swing by and get you and we will track him down? You bring the string bikini and I will try to bring a food or beverage item. We will find him and report back to the masses.

    WTH is an agoraphobic?

  51. Better you asked WTF is a brogade! lol Perhaps an agoraphobic is a SP male who likes to knit sweaters by fireside, and is a volunteer fireman. It could be a teen of either sex, who likes staying home, wears brocade, and is in the school majorette brigades. It could mean any and all Tay fans with any phobias. Or it could be that rosie can’t spell.

    ————————————————————————–
Rosie, T has a standing suite at Ross Bridge where he stays at also. Could be where he’s at now-especially with him playing golf. The thing down at Gulf Shores could be for investment purposes and a place for him to get away. I seriously don’t think he’s tucked away in some gated mansion. I think Taylor is the type that prefers to “hide” in plain sight.

  53. Taylorfan06, So glad you’re still commenting. Taylor got screwed when he won idol. Some of it may have been due his belief in his talent, win and an over confidence in what winning meant in 2006. Who knows. He has a very hard field to plow now, albeit much softer than pre AI. We shall see and so will he as to how it goes on the road.

  54. CF, have no clue as to how you know for fact, even half the stuff you relay as info here. I just think he has a home and why wouldn’t he. He could always sell it and his lake property. I did not say he had a gated mansion. Do you know property/homes are cheap in bama as compared to elsewhere? You act like he is some skitish, near poverty stricken 1st time buyer, a penny pincher who needs to rely on the kindness of others. God, it’s right out of a Tennessee Williams play.

  55. casualfan Says:

Rosie, I know about Ross Bridge because it’s not a secret for one. His Grandmother told a group of us about it a few years ago. Also, a married couple who are close friends of mine went to Ross Bridge for the weekend a few years back and had reserved a room. For whatever reason their room wasn’t available so they were offered the suite where Taylor stayed when in town. The clerk told them about it. He said that T liked it because of the amenities.

Now take it anyway you want to take it. You have come up with quite a few over the top shit yourself so don’t be throwing stones.

  56. casualfan Says:

You act like he is some skitish, near poverty stricken 1st time buyer, a penny pincher who needs to rely on the kindness of others. God, it’s right out of a Tennessee Williams play.
    ========================================================
You are living in some trippin fantasy land. Noone said anything about him being any of that. You only hear what you want to hear and believe what you want to believe. It’s always been like that with you. Step back into reality. Everyone, including Taylor is having to watch their pennies today.

  57. moonpie3 Says:

Hey CF, I remember Joni telling us in May ’08 all about Ross Bridge. She said that Taylor loves the place and that Taylor stays there whenever he is back in the Ham.
I also remember about our friend and his wife’s weekend and what the Concierge told them about Taylor’s favorite suite.

A little bird told me something about Joni living in an Assisted Living Facility and that her old house was having some renovations done to it. Maybe the Grandson is staying there too.

  58. I’m ignoring your insults CF. My insights about Taylor could be right. and yours could be wrong. No arguement there . No big deal to me. Sorry if I somehow insulted you. My opinion is he has purchased a home. Moonpie3, I wish Joni the best.

  59. casualfan Says:

Don’t turn this on me Rosie. I offered up something that I do know and I got slammed for it. I thought we had moved beyond all that petty crap, but I was wrong.

  60. casualfan Says:

Oh another note….Seems Adam Lambert is selling out his shows and doing very nicely. Getting good press (finally) and records climbing the charts. He is well on his way to recovering from his mishap last year.

Hopefully Taylor will follow suit by selling out all his venues and picking up new fans along the way.

    WELL DONE GUYS!

  61. hicksaholic Says:

Adam is certainly doing well. The key will be if he can continue to hold the interest of the casual fans and broaden his fanbase beyond AI. Taylor had a very successful initial tour but did not keep the majority of his fanbase.
That being said, this new tour seems very encouraging especially since it doesn’t even have any southeast dates so far and that’s where his fanbase is strongest.
Hope Joni is doing well. She is such a nice lady. She’s getting older and I know Taylor is close to her. I hope he is able to spend as much time as possible with her. She seems to be so proud of him.
Whenever I hear about things like Taylor has a standing suite at Ross Bridge, it reminds me for all of Taylor’s supposed “lack of success” he is certainly treated like a star in Alabama.

  62. So, let me get this straight . . .

Taylor may or may not own property on the gulf.

Taylor may or may not have a mansion which may or may not have gates.

Taylor may or may not wear brocade when relaxing in his mansion which may or may not be on the gulf and which may or may not have gates.

Taylor may or may not be a stock Tennessee Williams character who relies on the kindness of strangers.

    Adam is kicking Glamnation ass . . . 😀

  63. hicksaholic Says:

    Soulaz,
You got it summarized pretty well.

  64. casualfan Says:

    Soulaz,
Yeah-You nailed it down pretty well. LOL!

Oh yeah! Adam is certainly kicking serious GLamnation ass! Would LOVE to see him in concert. I watched some vids of him and he gets really playful and fun with his audience. It was very enjoying to watch.

  65. casualfan Says:

Whenever I hear about things like Taylor has a standing suite at Ross Bridge, it reminds me for all of Taylor’s supposed “lack of success” he is certainly treated like a star in Alabama.
    =========================================================
People measure success in different ways. Taylor is VERY successful in his own right and as you pointed out…AL does love him. He was coined “Alabama’s favorite Son” which is very fitting for him.

  66. hicksaholic Says:

Good news for me. Looks like my nephew is coming through with Buffett tickets for me. I’m excited, I’ll report back. I still would be a lot more excited to see Taylor though.

  67. Ange Bleu Says:

Yeah, Whoopee, Ladies & Gentlemen, Big News!! Glambert is seriously kicking ass!!! Yeah, can you believe it?? Only a few months ago he was considered a failure. But now, with Simon Cowell in his corner, top AI executives backing him, a megawatt recording company trying to rev things up, a million dollar budget for his use, and dozens of paid personnel boosting him up, he’s beginning to make the grade.

However, I have to wonder why they haven’t helped Kris Allen whose struggling on his own. And —- Why in the world didn’t they help Taylor????? Instead they launched an armada of sucker punches to him Geez, if you didn’t know better you’d think they were trying to destroy him.

  68. casualfan Says:

Taylor got pretty damn good treatment on his 07 tour. Who do you think financed his 07 tour? Who do you think put him in a brand new million dollar tour bus? He didn’t, Clive Davis did. Who do you think booked all of his venues….Phillip Morris Agency/CAA did.

No offense, but you and some others seem to think that it’s all up to the record companies to promote these artists, when the truth is the artists has to have something bankable themselves to sell in the first place. How can someone market a product when the masses aren’t interested to begin with?

Adam obviously has something the masses want and TPTB are banking right on that. Now it’s Adam Lambert’s turn to be “Laughing all the way to the bank”

Guess winning the title isn’t what it’s cracked up to be now is it? 😉

  69. hicksaholic Says:

Didn’t Taylor play similar size venues as Adam is currently playing and didn’t Taylor sell them out also? I was thinking he did but maybe they weren’t as big. I don’t guess TPTB came to some of Taylor’s concerts and saw some of the same people over and over? But I’m sure that’s the same with Adam. He definitely has an intense fanbase. Again the key will be to maintain/broaden that fanbase. That seems to be difficult to do unless you are in a very popular genre like country or pop rock.

  70. Since I have never been invited into corporate meetings where the dreaded “PTB” decide the fate of American Idol contestants, I cannot make any definitive statements as to how much support any single contestant is getting at any given time. I don’t know what they did or didn’t do for Taylor, or when they stopped doing what they were doing for Taylor. And I certainly don’t know what they are doing or not doing for Kris Allen . . .

I do think it’s a bit simplistic to automatically assume one AI alum’s success is evidence of another’s mistreatment by “TPTB.” We are not music industry insiders here . . . we’re just fans with opinions.

It might possibly be that Adam is currently having more success than Kris because more people are willing to pay to see Adam in concert. We all know that not everyone who votes, pays money for the “product” after the show. If they did, just about every AI contestant would be a platinum selling mega star.

I personally think Adam Lambert is a phenomenal talent, and I have really enjoyed watching video clips from his tour. I’d really love to be able to attend one of his shows . . . and that is not a condemnation of Taylor Hicks or Kris Allen.

  71. casualfan Says:

The mainstream public is enthralled with the Lady GaGa’s of the industry today and that’s why Adam is quickly climbing the ranks today. Promoters and record labels are going to follow the money and invest where they can get a return …that’s how it’s always been and will always be. Recent articles-such as the one Sierra brought over show that some artists are having problems with tkt sales and some arent. The masses are leaning towards the GaGa’s and the Lamberts instead of what was popular a few years back.

It all goes back to sense of entitlement. Some fans have brainwashed themselves into believing that since Taylor won the title that he’s entitled to more success than Daughty or the others. The music buying public has proven that to not be the case. Same is happening with Adam/Kris and happened with Rueben/Clay.

On another note….According to etix, Taylor has sold out at Reggie’s Bar on Aug 9th which is great! The venue holds approx. 500 and is a heavy metal venue. Kuddos to T for booking there and selling tkts. According to the lady I spoke with at the box office this morning, Taylor has “shaken things up a bit” because he’s not what they normally book. She meant it as a compliment. =)

  72. Naturally people world wide want to go see an act like Adam, with his custume changes, theatrics and the prospect he may do something over the top. Lots of people like his voice. Carrie Underwood also does well on tour and she has no gimmacks except her voice and looks. I wouldn’t pay to see either one of them and I didn’t see Daughtry when he was around here, but I’n not a big concer goer. Taylor did well on his 07 tour selling out many venues quite a bit ahead. TPTB had Adam, a 2nd place fininher mentor this season and Simon said Adam should have won. In 07 TPTB treated Tay the reigning winner rotten at the 07 finale and Simon said Tay was the wrong winner. That’s just 2 comparisons of treatment but I could give you dozens. The BIG AI followers on MJ’s refer to the rotten treatment Tay received from tptb, and the general term is Hicksed. CF. You may pretend to yourself they gave Tay all the breaks, but others see it differently. I typed this too fast and thus tons of mistakes, but ya get my drift.

    You say confused

  78. casualfan Says:

To everyone but you are the one living in a confused state. Just because the “hard AI followers” say it doesn’t make it so. Unless you have a memo or otherwise from anyone who is indeed an industry expert….it’s all speculation. Besides, as usual you misread what I wrote and only saw what you wanted to see.

Sierra, Yeah, it’s a heavy metal venue. The lady at the venue checked with the manager and said that Etix had to shut down the tkt site because of some kind of confusion. She told me that Etix has to do an accurate tkt count and will be back online tomorrow, or tonight…that’s for T’s show. She told me the tkt are NOT sold out, they just don’t have an accurate count.

No doubt I will be called a liar, so if in doubt call the venue yourselves.

  79. Exactly CF . . . just because someone posts AN OPINION on MJs does not mean that they are stating fact. It’s been four long years of speculation and “reading between the lines” and “connecting dots” . . . and still nobody but Taylor and the folks at AI & 19 know for a fact what happened between them. And they’re not talking . . .

Still not sure what this has to do with Adam Lambert though. He’s out there, working hard to entertain his audience, and having some success doing so. Good for him, I say.

  80. I will not get into the conspiracy theory. However ,I will relay what happened to me personally,,,I called a local radio station to request JTFTW at request hour…I spoke to the DJ and asked if they had the song and she replied that they did , I asked if she would play it and she replied NO…when I told her it was my grandsons’ favorite song and he would love to hear it and she replied with a very abrupt “We will NOT play him” I thanked her for her time and hung up stunned at her emphatic reply….certainly makes one wonder!!!

  82. casualfan Says:

Anne, Sorry to hear about you having that experience. I can see why you would wonder, but there could be a buffet of reasons why they refused to play his music. Not all roads lead back to where most think.

My whole point was that some have literally worked themselves up in a froth about what didn’t happen to Taylor and as Soulaz points out….the peeps that do know ain’t talking. I think that crap is long buried and should be kept that way. It’s done, it’s over with so move on. I see where people are still dragging up the Clive Davis thing where he was giving props to Daughtry instead of the AI winner of that season. Not taking anything away from Taylor, but Daughtry deserved the props he got. He made music history and made Clive and the others a boat load of cash.

The integrity of the music is now elusive…now it’s “show me the money”

  83. I think that crap is long buried and should be kept that way. It’s done, it’s over with so move on. I see where people are still dragging up the Clive Davis thing

  86. casualfan Says:

LOL! Someone on another blog predictibly has made it their business to know why I called the venue asking about tkts. No surprise there…..

I called for someone who lives in that area and wants to go to the show. The person VIP tkts so she’s going along with a M&G. There….mystery is solved.

Fairhope, I hope I find you. I will probably be the sweaty frustrated one with a few other sweaty frustrated people. I have a feeling it’s going to be a cluster *uck. Hope it is run well for my nephew’s sake.

  89. The love American Idol gave to Daughtry may have made them money in the short sale. But they did indeed sale out the premise of the reality show. I think it is very possible that their backing of losers over winners as destroyed the shows entire concept. The viewer and the voting has become irrelevant. I doubt if they will ever recover the enthusiasm that they enjoyed pre-daughtry.

I am not a Daughtry hater. I enjoy his music, but I do prefer Taylor. IMO Taylor is so much better on the stage than Chris that its not even fair to compare the two. Since I lean more toward live music than radio play… Taylor wins!

SHOUT OUT to SS!!! Where have you been???

  90. casualfan Says:

I think the backing of Daughtry over Hicks is only revelant in the Tayland. Most peeps bought Daughtry’s music because they enjoyed it…had nothing to do with who was pimping what.

But then again, I see things different than most. 😉

  91. casualfan Says:

That would be “relevant” not “revelant” =(

  92. It’s really not rocket science, folks . . . Chris Daughtry was, and is, creating music that is popular on radio right now. That type of middle of the road, safe rock music will always have a huge audience. It just is what it is. I am not a huge Daughtry fan, but I certainly don’t begrudge him his success.

Taylor, on the other hand, dances to the beat of a different drummer. He may never have the type of mainstream success that Chris Daughtry has had, simply because he is not mainstream.

If, as Taylor fans are always reporting, he is giddy with happiness over his career and is making big money doing what he loves, why the continued comparisons to Daughtry? Who knows, maybe if things had gone differently back in 2006, he may have been more successful out of the gate . . . but then again, maybe he wouldn’t be “giddy with happiness” over the current state of his career, if he had.

If you love Taylor’s music . . . . buy it, go see his shows and enjoy the ride. That’s really all you can do as a fan.

  93. casualfan Says:

    LOL! Great post soulaz!

  94. Thanks, CF . . . I think I see things “different” in the same way you do. 😛

  95. Backing or no backing aside, I think indeed non winners becoming more successful has hurt the show. It started with Jennifer Hudson making it big after being voted off. The Daughtry senerio just further damaged the premise of the show. The Adam vs. Kris and Lee vs. Crystal continuing saga will just add more fuel to the smoldering flames the show is battleing. I think the show if it is to continue needs a major restructure. Nor sure what ? Maybe only one vote per person or letting the record company have a vote. Who Knows?

CF -I really think the perceived backing of Chris over Taylor has gone way beyond Tayland. It may have started there but it is being seen in the main stream media too. Now that AI is showing chinks in their armor more reporters have made negative comments about the relevancy of the shows winners. Before last year no one dared to suggest that Kelly and Carrie were really the only true winners to become Stars. Some articles have suggested how intertwined the record companies are with AI and how they get their pick of who they want no matter who wins. Just like anything else once they become fair game for criticism the real truths start coming out. I think before long a “Tell all “book is likely to come out from somewhere. It may be a year or a few years but it’s bound to be written.

  96. I don’t think having others contestants succeed is harmful to the show really. Especially someone like Hudson who acheived her success much later and with no help from anyone associated with AI that I know of.
But its putting all their power behind someone other than the winner while at the same time doing and saying things detrimental to the winner that has been very harmful to the essense of what the show was supposed to be.
Taylor himself has said that no video, single not out when it should have been hurt his sales. Of course it did. Along with stores NOT being restocked. It was all so obvious.
No one that I can think of has had to try and build a career while being ridiculed by the very people that put him on tv.
Without a video, single out, support for radio and it does take support, would Chris have done as well? I don’t know, don’t really care, his success is not important to me one way or the other.
Its the deliberate damage done to Taylor that irks the hell out of me.

Now this makes no sense to me at all. It translates out to the winners should be more successful than the non winners.

Daughtry’s music promoted itself because he produced a product that mainstream music lovers wanted to hear. Taylor Hicks stated in an interview that a good song will always find it’s way to the radio. If you believe in what Taylor said, then you have to believe that Daughtry’s music is good because it more than found it’s way. As I said before, TPTB are naturally going to follow the money.

  101. casualfan Says:

Can someone please explain to me exactly what American Idol PROMISED the winners? I only know of a record contract. Is there more? Has someone personally seen the contracts that include the promises?

  102. Up until Taylor the winners had a video and a single released before their CD. They also had their CD released before the 4th, 6th or any other place contestent. Up until Taylor, the reigning winner had their full length picture displayed front and center on the wall. This way new comers to to then ever increasing popular show, when watching the auditions for season 6, would be reminded who was the big whig, the reigning winner. You know the auditions are edited for TV. So I wonder why TPTB, left in Simon’s comment for a contestent to stick their gum on the face of THE Winner? Nothing like that was ever said before to diss a winner. Keeping in mind the editing, it was left in that Simon told Sundance he blew Taylor out of the water with his audition. This wasn’t done before or since. The reigning winner had never had a runner ups song played every week for millions to hear, nor had they had someone as prominent as SIMOn and Nigel saying in the written and TV press that America chose the wrong winner. Carrie, Fantasia etc. were treated as the reigning Idol royality, at the finale the next season. Tay not only wasn’t introduced, but came out following Clive’s tribute to Daughtry, the real winner and success story, but heard Clive say well maybe with Heaven Knows Taylor will do better. Commercial break, then an unintroduced Taylor with an un introuduced song took the stage. Given the music of Daughtry he would most likely had Taylor been treated well and like past winners, still have sold more CD’s. Taylor did not get radio play or a vid when everyone else did and has and not just the winners. He had signed with Arista and he surely helped people tune into season 5. Arista, bottom line and TPTB, failed Taylor and hurt Taylor and I know several non Tay fans who see that. But I guess one sees only what one wishes.

  103. casualfan Says:

Thanks for the clarification Rosie. It’s crystal clear to me now.

  104. I have never compared Taylor to Daughtry or Adam or anyone from Idol. This should not be about different styles of music or who sells the most CD’s. It should just be about fairness, justice and common decency to winners of the biggest talent show ever and those who voted and made the show what it is or was. Taylor and all the contestents made a ton of money for the judges and label and tptb, just by showing up to audition and make the top 10. So did the millions of viewers who watched and voted and bought coke or Fords etc. What one makes later on off the backs of the contestents, via their CD’s is a whole nother thing.

  105. Glad I could be of service.

  106. Speaking of the beach pics, he is one dark and swarthy guy. Wonder what shade is skin is where the sun don’t shine!!

  108. There’s a big old hole in the information superhighway that holds the key to unlocking all the mysteries of the Soul Patrol Universe. Within that supermassive blackhole (like how I got a Muse reference in there?) is the answer to the only question that matters. “Why?”

It would make no sense for the evil twins, Simon “Gum Sticker” Cowell and Clive “Daughtry Lover” Davis, to destroy Taylor’s post AI career without some significant impetus to do so.

Because, see . . . it’s all about the money. The more money Taylor made, the more money they made. So, if . . . and it’s a HUGE if, they set out to intentionally destroy Taylor, they must have been fully prepared for that ahead of time. So, what was their motivation to purposefully lose money?

And that is the question that cannot be answered, because NOBODY posting on a blog, even a really BIG blog like MJs has the slightest inkling of an idea of what transpired between Taylor and AI/19 in the summer/fall of 2006.

Maybe Taylor told them to fuck off . . . and so, they did? Who knows???

  111. Poke Salad Annie Says:

“Maybe Taylor told them to fuck off . . . and so, they did? Who knows???”
    ———————————————————————————–

Probably….wouldn’t surprise me…and yep, Chris Daughtry, puts out the kind of music that is radio play friendly…in fact if you listened to 3 brand new songs by Daughtry, Rob Thomas, Maroon 5, etc, you really wouldn’t know which one you were listening to unless someone told you. You would, however, recognize Taylor’s voice. Payola is alive and well. We witness it’s power on a daily basis when we listen to the radio. Some songs are played endlessly, and then the “Small World” syndrome kicks in and the sheeple bite. They download the drivel onto their Ipods and that makes the Clives wealthy. Sheese, Justin Beiber? Voice enhancement works wonders. And yes, I know we all have different tastes..to each his own…etc. etc. and so forth. 🙂

Rosie had a few good points about the crappy treatment of AI’s season 5 winner. No, it does not make sense for the AI folks to kill a golden goose unless he was an abject lesson in what happens to maverick idol winners.
Something happened, but we don’t know what, and we probably will have to wait for the tell-all book to be written.

I don’t want to have tweet conversations with Taylor, I don’t want to be his best friend, and if I saw him out in public, I would have the good sense to leave the man alone. I admire his musical abilities, as well as those of David Cook, Crystal Bowersox, Bo Bice, and Elliott Yamin…while I do think Adam Lambert is immensely talented, he isn’t my cup of tea. AI has discovered some gifted singers/entertainers, but I’m sure the penalty for not playing the game by their rules is severe. I’m not interested enough to dig around to see, but I’ll bet the AI5 tour was the most successful of all, and Season 5 the most watched. And that,my fellow Taylor fans ( casual and otherwise) was because of the lovely Mr. Hicks…Now that he’s been degreased we shall see what the future holds.
    I wish him well.

  112. Annie . . . I wish him well too. And yeah, I totally agree about the magic of Season 5 and its tour. I saw 3 AI shows that year and I think 5 shadow tour shows. Taylor must have been doing something right back then to part me with my money. I tend to be thrifty . . . 😀

  113. Annie said “I don’t want to have tweet conversations with Taylor, I don’t want to be his best friend, and if I saw him out in public, I would have the good sense to leave the man alone.”

    I agree completely! 🙂

  114. There was obviously something Taylor said did or failed to do that angered tptb. I think most fans know that. Whatever it was it happened during the summer or early fall of 06. But Taylor was the winner and the inexperienced newcomer and TPTB should have been men enough to have handled it in a bigger and better way. They may have succeeded in hurting him, but they also hurt themselves as he could have made them more money and boosted the franchise reputation for finding outstanding talents with different voices. Don’t even ask me to give suggestions about some positive things they could have said and done to help him and thus the show and themselves. They were small minded, short sighted and foolhardy IMO.

    =======================================================
    CF Said
Now this makes no sense to me at all. It translates out to the winners should be more successful than the non winners.

I realize it doesn’t make complete sense BUT It does make sense to our media. They make a big deal out of it when the winners of AI don’t make a huge splash. Even though Taylor is doing well, they call him a loser when there are one Hell of a lot of musicians who would love to have his career.
The media after Kelly and Carrie expected every winner to be the next big thing and Idol of course played it up. But when it started not happening Idol blamed it on the voters. Whether it makes sense or not the audience started moving away when they realized it really did not matter who the winner was when the top few could all get a recording contract.

Soulaz what you say sounds reasonable about why would they not promote Taylor when it would make them more money. I think there are two possible reasons for it
1: He did not sign with 19 so there went a big chunk of their money and they needed to make sure no other winners went in that direction.
2: Taylor was a harder sell that Daughtry because Chris’s genre was more popular. In another day and age it might not have made a difference but the year Taylor won Record companies were reeling from the costs of promotion versus the payback and they were pulling back on everyone who did not sell well right at the start. They were only prepared to put out a minimun amount and if an artist needed more promotion they were just not going to take the chance. When you go back years you see artists being nurtured. They didn’t have to have hits right out of the chute. Today it’s different they all want instant hit makers. I know the music business is confusing and some say Paola does not exist any more but in a recent article an insider was talking about how Labels tried to hype the chart in the old days and that
“they’re still doing now, by the way. People are telling me that the majors have teams of people who actually buy singles on iTunes to try to drive it up the charts — buying their own songs. It blew my mind. I mean, we’re not learning anything.”
When I read something like this it’s not hard for me to believe some of the conspiracy theories and I usually don’t believe such theories. The whole industry has been involved in some unbelievable stuff. Here’s the whole article if someone wants to read. It’s pretty interesting and gives some ideas on how the industry should change.

    http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/07/tom-silverman-proposes-radically-transparent-music-business/all/1

  116. Henry made at least 1 post today that is in moderation. But anyway elswhere she said Contol was more important to Clive and tptb than any money Taylor would have made for them I agree they were out to teach him and any future contestents that they are the boss and you damn better be grateful for whatever they do or say. Simon went ballistic when Hudson, Taylor, Kelly, Clay and Daughtry had words quoted to the effect that AI was just a stepping stone.

  117. Annie…I wholeheartedly agree with your post and yes rosie did have some valid points…but I guess the “simple minds” of Taylor fans with “woo dust” just don’t get it..so we need to be told repeatedly that we just DON’T understand. What can be expected of simple minds!!!!

By the way.. Taylor may have told them all to fuck off and they stopped their promotion of him..but so did Adam with that debacule of a performance on the AMA’s …before I am jumped on for being an Adam hater..let me assure you that I am not..I think he is very talented , however he lost my respect that night ..and also my interest.
My point is he told them to fuck off that night and they still back him instead of Kris Allen…

  118. rosie says:

    “. . .     ===============================================

Now see, this statement falls right into the “speculation zone.” None of Taylor’s fans have access to the type of inside information to allow them to state as a matter of fact, what Clive Davis’ or TPTB’s states of mind or priorities were.

And if Simon went ballistic when Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Hicks, Clay Aiken and Chris Daughtry made statements that he didn’t like, why weren’t they ALL punished?

Don’t get me wrong here, I am NOT saying that there aren’t control and manipulation issues in the music industry. Of course there are, and it’s been happening for a long time. I’m just not convinced that there was an actual concerted effort, a planned campaign to destroy Taylor. As long as there have been record companies, there have been power struggles between the artists and the corporate entity. It’s a dance that all musicians have had to dance. Doesn’t make it right, of course . . . I’m just saying that I don’t believe that there was some SPECIAL campaign against Taylor Hicks. Maybe he just didn’t want to dance . . .

  119. casualfan Says:

Taylor is hyped up about this month long “tour” and hopefully it will be a huge success for him. Building up his fan-base and maintaining his niche is the important thing. New material is sure to follow.

  120. hicksaholic Says:

Well, one that seems to have beat the system is Jimmy Buffett.
I can see why Taylor would like his business model for success. He played to 35000 old young and middle-aged at Gulf Shores yesterday in a tshirt and bathing suit barefooted. They only sold Land Shark(?) beer(I think he owns it) and although I didn’t get to the booths I am betting there was lots of Buffett items available. He has the incredibly successful Margaritavilles in several locations with a new one proposed for Pensacola. This particular concert he donated everything over cost to the oil spill relief effort but I can imagine with his business model for success one regular concert by Buffett must pay the bills for quite a while. Buffett sells a lifestyle.
I’m kind of in the middle on this TPTB conspiracy against Taylor. I kind of lean toward some type of blackballing by TPTB. I think you had a winner in a tough to pigeonhole, non popular genre of music. Added to this you had a winner who started bucking the system at top 24 and continued to do so during the remainder of the season, didn’t sign with who TPTB wanted him to sign with, insisted on doing the shadow tours while the AI tour was going on making it more difficult to start working on his postidol album, etc….. Then you had a nonwinner who did sign with TPTB, was in a very radio friendly genre of music, worked on his album during the AI tour. There was a limited amount of promo money available. TPTB threw it behind Daughtry. I think with a good bit of backing from TPTB out of the gate Taylor could have been much more commercially successful. But I think heavy promo would have been required to counteract Taylor’s lack of a specific radio friendly genre and supposed non commercial “look”. Taylor’s supposedly “unwillingness to play the game” probably sealed TPTB decision to not heavily promote him(or teach him and future contestants a lesson depending on your point of view).

All that being said, all of the above is just my supposition of what may have happened given my hours and hours (and I mean hours and hours!) of following Taylor’s post idol career. I have no inside knowledge.

  121. Poke Salad Annie Says:

Hicksaholic, I agree with you about Jimmy Buffett being one who beat the system…huge fan base…has been around for a loooonngggg time and is still selling out his concerts. Kudos to him for this last one to help the gulf coast. I don’t think he ever had a No.1 hit, or huge album sales, but he was consistent…what he did have was radio play. His songs are immediately recognizable. For years my kids thought the national anthem was “Margaritaville”

And thank you for saying what I was trying to say about Taylor being difficult to work with….. I think those shadow tours during the AI tour were a big part of their ( TPTB) frustration…he even took Elliott, Ace, and Bucky with him, and the AI folks didn’t make a dime…no wonder he was not in their good graces.

I’ve enjoyed reading these posts…we all have some valid points to make, and some day maybe we’ll find out for sure…until then we can just have fun speculating.

  134. Ange Blue, Don’t quote me on this but I think I recall Taylor saying his mother had cherokee blood on her side of the family.

It’s wonderful isn’t it? When one free’s the mind of trival things and celebrates the music. It’s T’s gift to us and glad I’m here to enjoy it! Same goes to ALL musicians. 😉

  137. I’m shallow. To me he comes with more gifts than just his music. Last night he was once again being a little naughty on twitter and he is quick and cleaver. I watched some new vids this morning from Cervantes, curtesy of hickifino on the bb. He is smart to take what he can get, even if it is sitting in with not such well known bands. The more musicians and groups that get to see how talented he is on the harp and that he is co operative, all the better for him down the road. I’m not in the club that proclaims everything is going great for him and that he is happy as a lark. I admire the guy for his talent, guts, humor and talking the talk and walking the walk. He just also happens to be a sexy fine looking man.

Yeah, Rosie, Taylor works his ass off. He obviously is in this for the long haul and not to make a quick buck on the front end at the expense of shortening his musical longgevity.
I went to Buffett yesterday. It was good but I(me) would have preferred two hours of Taylor. Funny, friend’s daughter (about 30) was at someone’s house at the Gulf before the concert and some of the people there were saying Taylor might be playing and they were all excited. She knows what a huge fan I am and she’s like”what the hell? What is it about Taylor Hicks?” I told her you have got to see him live and you will understand. She said that’s what the people at this house were saying, that you had never seen such charisma on stage.
I keep hoping maybe Taylor could be an opening act for one of these Gulf oil spill benefit concerts. It would be great for Taylor. Any ideas for how I get a message to Taylor to tell him who to call?

    sorry longevity

  140. If it were 2006, he’d be a huge draw on the Gulf. I hope he is invited to be a part of a beach gig. They gave news briefs about the concert last night on several cable channels. The Gov, said he is disappointed more big names haven’t offered to participate. It is just one more case of Tay’s lack of radio play/hits hurting him. His tour starts in less than 2 weeks, so he might have to wait til Sept. for a beach gig. I would think he and his peeps have the inside as to who to call in Bama. You could always tweet Tay or buzz his tower. lol
