People…get ready

Wow. This performance is what American Idol used to be about. The passion, the emotion…amazing. Crystal Bowersox is incredible when she lets the emotion through.

And then…oh Taylor. This is what “T” tweeted last night:People Get Ready- Live Cut-Guthrie Trapp-Jeff Lopez on Baritone-When the street only knew ur name.

Really? Could you at least give us a link? Are you seriously riding the coattails of an American Idol contestant? Why do you make it so hard? Why? I think I’m going to call him T Pity from now on. 😉

Click here for an mp3 of Taylor singing People Get Ready.

    Oui….

  2. casualfan Says:

Crystal drove that song home into the hearts of everyone last night. The peeps who keep comparing Taylor to Crystal seriously need to get a grip on reality. Taylor was season 5 which is long over with. Crystal is in the now and shouldn’t be compared to a ghost. Sorry, but that’s my take on it.

  3. Taylor probably watched AI backstage in Hershey. He appreciates good singers and performances and she was by far the standout last night. Tay sings the song with more soul and passion than Crystal did, but she only had 90 sec and did great. Grey, What’s with your T Pity and riding coatails remarks? Tay tweeted his fans who already know he sang PGR and are pleased to see he caught Crystals performance.

  4. If Hicks was going to reference the song, couldn’t he have also referenced the performance, giving props to Bowersox?

  5. casualfan Says:

I think Crystal did better than T with the song, but that’s my opinion.

  6. Watched the clip. She did a great job with the song. But basing my opinion on her other performances to date while she is very good she seems to lack the stage presence that Taylor has. Perhaps this could come in time but Taylor is electric on stage and not sure it is something one can learn.

  7. I don’t see anything wrong with Taylor commenting on AI. It is his fans he is communicating with.

  8. cendrillon0308 Says:

Nobody, but nobody sang PGR like Sam Cooke did. But Taylor singing PGR is amazing. Like Rosie says, he sings it with soul and passion and that’s what attracts me to his music. We could use a little more of that raw energy and less greasyness.

  9. cendrillon0308 Says:

Oops! Curtis Mayfield sang PGR not Sam Cooke. My bad!

  10. taylorfan06 Says:

Crystal did a good job with the song. I like her and I think she’ll go far, maybe if win the competition. But as we know, will that be in her best interest?

Has anyone heard Taylor’s version of PGR from “One Night In Nashville”?
9 minutes of bluesy passion and soul, with some great harp and sax thrown in.

I do see why people would compare Crystal with Taylor. They both share a true love for music, and are both old souls.

cf – “compared to a ghost”? wth? i actually compared her to a janis joplin or a joan osborne type from what i heard earlier, even a bonnie raitt. that’s not a bad thing or a criticism. comparing her to taylor shouldn’t be any different. pretty much any artist can be compared to anyone else. JMO

And iag, i don’t think you need to pity T. His version was recorded before he ever stepped foot on the idol stage. I really don’t think he’s riding any “coattails”.

That nine minute performance Taylor did of PGR is pure “Taylor gold”. Maybe someone can put it up here.

And yes I do think that Taylor has more stage presence and charisma that most that i have ever seen on AI. It just boggle my mind that he is not better respected by the masses. He can still do this.

Have faith, believe… – Steve Perry (Journey). There’s some irony there I think. Where will Taylor’s “journey” continue to take him?
    How deep. *laughing to myself*

  11. Snowstorm Says:

When you make a bad cd, that stays with you the rest of your life. Nobody can forget how horrible his post-Idol cd was. Modern Whomp = EPIC FAIL!

  12. Guess it’s all a matter of taste but I really liked his first CD.

  13. datilpepper Says:

Yes, it is a matter of taste….How else do you explain Justin Beiber, Kei$ha,Miley Cyrus, etc. Opinions are like anal apertures, we all have one…well, most of us anyway.

I kinda liked Taylor’s first (well, actually his third) CD, too. A few of those could have been hits with ….wait for it…..AIRPLAY!!!!!!! Some get it , some don’t. Life’s great mystery!

  14. Snowstorm Says:

Those of you who like his post-Idol CD are in a minority. The majority disliked it. Deal with it.

  15. Snowstorm Says:

I don’t know which radio stations you listen to, but none of those songs were top 40 material. It was all AC/easy listening.

  16. taylorfan06 Says:

    I LOVE ALL TAYLOR CD’s!!!

OMG! I’m in a minority. I guess I like it that way. Better that than a sheep.

What music are listening to that’s so scary good theses days?

Those who can do, and those who don’t complain.

Why are people allowed to call me names on this blog for expressing an opinion?

    They’re not. IAG.

  18. Ange Bleu Says:

Some people might have disliked his post-idol album, but those Idol viewers who didn’t buy were most likely, for whatever reason, to be indifferent. By the time his album was released 6 or 7 mos. later they had either gone on to someone else or were no longer interested. It wasn’t that they were disloyal fans, it was that they saw him only as a popular AI contestant who was no longer relevant. This same thing might have been true with kris Allen. In fact, I have a theory as to why Kris, and to a lesser extent Taylor, didn’t do as well as first anticipated but that is for another time.

  19. taylorfan06 Says:

some people watch idol just for the entertainment value. many of them don’t buy cd’s. put that in the mix with limited promotion and airplay and sales can be effected. i think the cd sales of TH were impressive considering that was the case.

i wonder why slams towards me by just one individual never get edited iag.
there have been quite a few jabs sent my way without provocation.
    just curious. wah wah wah!

  20. Ange Bleu Says:

There is a rumor going around that Adam Lambert is one of those under consideration for Simon’s job. Not sure whether this is true or more AI publicity for Adam to help his career.

  21. casualfan Says:

Adam would do great as an Idol Judge, but I can’t see that happening. He’s too busy with his music career.

TF6-I only referred to Taylor as a “Ghost” in my earlier post because of him not being active in the music field right now. It really wasn’t an insult.

TF6-Yesterday-Wenseday, I had the opportunity to be in the audience of “Idol Gives Back” in Pasadena. OMG! Words cannot describe the energy and emotion that took place there. When Elton John walked out on the stage it took my breath away and I cried as did many others. They rolled his beloved red piano out on stage with such care and love and gently took away the cloths and lovingly dusted all the prints off it to get it ready for her Master. It was an amazing experience. He didn’t demand any grand entrance and was very gracious and humble. He simply walked on the stage. He’s a true star and I won’t forget this experience.

Joss Stone and John Beck were both amazing and I have to give Carrie Underwood her props. Not a fan, but that little lady has serious talent and very beautiful in person.

All of these Artists truly made it all about the music and had the passion for the spirit of giving.

  22. Joss Stone and *Jeff* Beck like working together. Here is their version of “People Get Ready”:

Jeff Beck is one of the most gifted guitar players of our time.

  23. casualfan Says:

I agree Sunny. He totally electrified the stage. Joss was so beautiful in her dress with no shoes on…she must not like wearing shoes. LOL! We had great seats and the acoustics were perfect.

  24. casualfan Says:

I apologize for saying John Beck earlier…LOL! I meant Jeff Beck.

  25. casualfan Says:

TV just doesn’t do this justice…NOTHING compared to seeing them live.

  26. datilpepper Says:

Loved Joss Stone’s PGR…..Enjoyed her performance on Idol Gives Back last night, too. I remember the original “I Put A Spell On You” by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins…you don’t forget it if you’ve ever heard it, LOL!
I enjoyed Sir Elton, too…he is a legend. Lucky you, CF…that must have been something to see. 😉

  27. From my perspective of watching Elton on tv last night, I could tell the audience was gaga over Elton. I remember thinking wow do they love him. He has been clean and happy for years now and still has that great voice and song writing talent.

  28. Hicksaholic Says:

I didn’t really think Joss Stone was that good last night. I loved Annie Lennox and thought Carrie was excellent too.

I’m at work but I can’t wait til everybody leaves so I can listen to PGR from Taylor.
Crystal has a great voice, technically a lot better than Taylor’s I’m guessing but although she delivers a heartfelt performance she doesn’t perform with the passion Taylor does. She and Lee are still my favorites this year though.

  29. casualfan Says:

That’s to bad that you didn’t feel Joss last night Hicksaholic. I listened to the video I posted and it simply doesn’t do her performance justice. I declined watching the show when we got home last night because I knew it would take away what I felt seeing it all live.

Rosie, when Elton meekly walked out onto the stage and just started talking to us, all the air seemed to get sucked out of the place. While he was singing, the entire AI staff, the venue staff was lined up against the walls all in a trance with the rest of us. Even the kids were all transfixed by the power of his voice. I don’t think there was a dry face in the house. The man has a powerful voice and his passion is the real thing.

Annie Lennox was suppose to be there but got stuck in England because of the volcanic activity there, but she also made me cry. That’s another one of my true Idols.

  30. Lucky you, CF! Loved Jeff & Joss, Annie, Elton & Mary J. last night. Crystal’s been my choice since the season began. I’ll be buying her CD, whether she wins or not.

  31. hicksaholic Says:

Oh CF didn’t realize you got to see it live! How great for you!
Finally watched the T version of PGR. I agree he needs to learn the words to the verses but the beginning of his version is incredible at least to me. I know Crystal only had a minute and a half so I wouldn’t predict who could do a better version with the same time but with Crystal’s talent and Taylor’s ability to emote the two would really be good together. Too bad no one thinks Taylor is a comparable talent to Joss or even Crystal, but I think they are wrong. Taylor’s better at interpreting a song emotionally IMO.

  32. The video Grey posted the link to of Taylor with Rolling In The Hay, proves to me he loves to jam and sing whenever and whereever. He may never get the big music career, but worst case scenerio , he will get to sit in with more bands. Crystal and Tay would do well singing together.

  33. casualfan Says:

How did this whole Crystal/Taylor thing start anyway? Did she ever reference Taylor? Maybe I’m missing something. I don’t see anything of common ground between the two of them.

  34. hicksaholic Says:

    CF,
Didn’t you know all roads lead to Taylor?

  35. casualfan Says:

Yes hicksaholic-I guess they do. 😉

  36. taylorfan06 Says:

congrats on seeing ai live, cf. i bet it was a blast being there in person.

so this is how i see with the comparing crystal to taylor thingy:

    they’re both –

    -old “souls”
    -throwbacks
    -entertaining
    -LOVE music
    -anti-idol types
    -have a “voice”
    -a bit anti establishment
-the most talented in the bunch
-may not be “commercial” enough (whatever that means)

JMO (not that i’ve thought much about it)

  37. casualfan Says:

Points taken TF6 and yes-it WAS AMAZING!

  38. Grey kinda brought up the Tay Crystal thing by composing her blog topic. Then some fans weighed in on who they thought sang it better, but given hers was a 90 sec. version it was like apples and oranges. Tayfan06 made some good comparisons and they are all true. However Taylor looked like he was in heaven, performing before 30 some million veiwers, each week. Crystal, not so much. He seemed to want the fame and attention more than she does. She wants to provide for her child. As I said before, worse case scenerio, he can now get more gigs than he did pre AI and sing and jam to his hearts content. All he needed to do was invest a million and watch it grow and he will have a comphy old age. I wonder if Fortune will publish the top 10 AI earners for 2009 and wonder if Taylor will make the top 10. I’m only nosy because I’m a big old rosey fan of the man. But it ain’t over until all his fat lady fans sing.

  39. Just learned Tay tweeted a big Thanks to MamaSox nation. Does anyone know why? Seems Hicks made his own Crystal music connection. I think he digs her voice and music on AI. So do I.

  40. casualfan Says:

Momasoxnation was started by a Taylor fan-soulpatroldanny. Glad to see him get recognition from the Soul Man! =)

  41. casualfan Says:

LOL! Looks like Taylor broke the trackball on his Blackberry. That’s an accomplishment within itself.

  42. He is doing pretty good with staying on top of things/fans, while working and trying to make a good living and staying in the public eye. Twitter was his god send technology tool. Glad to see he tries hard to stay in the fame game.

  43. taylorfan06 Says:

I never thought about any comparisons between Crystal and Taylor before this post. I’ve seen only bits and pieces of idol this season because i really haven’t watched much of it since season 5. And i didn’t ever watch it before Season 5.

Anyway, my thought of comparison came from her doing PGR. From the little i have seen of Crystal, i initially had an earthiness vibe, kind of lilith fair, coffee shop essence (not meant in a bad way). I have since seen a deep artist that is very talented. I think she should would, but what do I know? And as i mentioned before, will that be the best thing for her?

Those answers are more theoretical because i’m not that invested in the outcome. I think the girl has talent and that’s enough for me. Regarding my fandom for Taylor, it’s apples and oranges.

I have done some comparisons, in regard to other artists on S9 that have covered songs Taylor covered (i.e., In The Ghetto, Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, and now People Get Ready). I also remember Kris Allen covering Ain’t No Sunshine last season. Not really being biased, I really enjoy Taylor’s version much more. It’s the voice, it’s the passion, the delivery that sell me on this guy.

Since my first TH concert experience, I just think this guy is amazing. I liked what i saw on S5, but live and up close, i was taken to another level. The guy is a performer, first and foremost and i just connect with who he is. That’s all i got. He made me a major fan after that first concert. He’s got a hold on me. That hasn’t happened since the 70’s with Elton John, my #1 idol.

What can I say? …Taylor’s in good company. I’m glad about his connection with MamaSox nation. It makes sense and I see good things coming for Crystal. And Taylor. I may have to tune into more of ai to see where it all goes…

  44. taylorfan06 Says:

Correction: I think she should would, (should win)

  45. taylorfan06 Says:

A big shout out to soulpatroldanny!

He may have started something big.

  46. casualfan Says:

I agree TF6. Danny has always been a dedicated fan who never has anything bad to say about anybody and stays out of the drama. He’s a good soul and one of the good guys. Glad to see him getting some love from T.

I never thought about the connection between Crystal and T but I can see your points. Hopefully she won’t run into the same walls that T did after his win. I’m still rooting for Lee but either one is a good choice.

On another note, I was driving today and passed a few golf courses. They drive ranges were packed with people fine tuning their game. I thought about Taylor doing the same thing and had to laugh. I started playing some golf on the Wii (LOL) and will hopefully graduate to the green shortly.

  47. casualfan Says:

That would be “The drive ranges” and not “They drive ranges”. Sometimes I swear my laptop has a mind of it’s own.

  48. Taylorfan06, when you are not angry with the foul weather lady, or gung ho with all things TH, you are spot on. I know you post on the BB as do I. Isn’t it a good thing that IAG gives us all a chance to post our ideas about music, Tay’s career and actions and whatever. Anyway I think it is great and thanks grey.

  49. taylorfan06 Says:

Rosie, you make me laugh. Me angry? You obviously have me confused with someone else. *index finger on chin* I have NO idea what you’re talking about… lol i will say that i LOVE “blue” skies.

cf – i hear that wii is VERY addicting. go easy. like i should talk…
    i’m here aren’t i?
just do whatever it is that makes you happy in this life. i give you my full approval. he he he
i’d love to be tay’s ball washer. on the greens, i mean. link this!

btw, i’ve never heard of danny, but a good fan is a good fan in my book.

TF06 This says it all clearly and concisely.

On a different note, I went to the Florabama yesterday. The Mullet Toss is this weekend and it is unbelievably packed. If you have never been to the Florabama and you get anywhere around the Alabama Florida line you need to visit. Just the people watching alone is worth the price of admission. But the bands are great, makes you realize how many talented people are out there flying way way under the radar.
I talked to a guy after watching an incredibly funny (but very raunchy) guy named Big Earl perform and he told me about Rusty McHugh. He said he was not as raunchy but even funnier. I bought the cd but haven’t listened to it yet but let me give you a sample of some of the song titles.

I Get My Women at the Waffle House

I Went Home with a Mermaid and Woke Up with a Manatee

I can’t Wait til I Sober Up so I can Get Drunk Again

I Always Get Battered When She Gets Fried.

I can’t wait to listen to it. I imagine Taylor knows him since he played at THE FB during the same time period as Taylor. After spending a few hours there yesterday it is amazing if Taylor can say one single sentence without saying f*ck or any number of other descriptive words being around the FB all the time.

  53. casualfan Says:

    =============================================
Yes they are. I can see why people accidently break their tvs by swinging the hand control all over the place. I have to keep reminding myself to strap that thing tightly around my wrist. But it is loads of fun. We have mini golf complete with ghosts and other interesting characters in the game. Can’t wait to play it.

  54. Snowstorm Says:

Wait, Taylor tweeted a fan? His old lady fanbase is going bonkers. “It should have been me!”, “it should have been me!”

Taylor knows more than you think. He knows he’s got a bunch of evil old biddies who can’t stay out of his business. When you’ve been nasty and bullied other fans, just because you don’t agree with their opinion, that shows a lot about your character. He wants nothing to do with you, except he will gladly take your money. HA!

  55. Excuse me if this has already been posted But MamaSoxNation (Danny) tweeted that Taylor was one of his top 3 Idols. Taylor, David Cook and Crystal. That was what Taylor’s post was about.

  56. Fairhope Says:

I first met Taylor while attending the Mullet Toss.

  57. casualfan Says:

That was really nice of T to acknowledge that and thank Danny. I’ve read where some peeps simply don’t believe that Taylor would waste his time reading the Net on what’s being said about him and they are wrong. Taylor said early on in his career that “his ear is to the ground” and he means just that.

  58. Hi all. Anyone going to Epcot, Oct. 9th and 10th to see Taylor?

  59. casualfan Says:

I wouldn’t mind visiting Universal Orlando to see the new Harry Potter adventure park. That looks like loads of fun.

  60. Bye, Ya’ll. My comment about SS post was in moderation and then gone. I’ve had enough. No need to explain to anyone. I’ve been upfront with Iag, and I don’t insult other posters. My opinion is as good as anyone’s and I am nice and decent to all. Grey, I do feel slighted, but it is your blog.

  61. casualfan Says:

Sorry to see you go Rosie, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Anything that references the weather over here gets put into moderation and at times deleted. It’s been done to all of us so don’t feel as if you are being singled out. IAG is just doing her job as the blog owner.

  62. Read an interview with Tom Petty in Parade yesterday this caught my eye.

“Petty, who played small clubs for years in the ’70s, is amused by the impatience of today’s aspiring singers on American Idol. “They want to start at the top now,” he says, smiling. “I just saw music as something I was compelled to do, something that made me feel good, and I wanted to do it.”

I’m sure many artists and music industry insiders feel the same way about the Idol contestants. I think however, it really applies more to the AI producers and their associated Record Labels than to the singers themselves.

  63. casualfan Says:

Thanks Dee for bringing that over and he’s right. The music industry has turned into an instant hit factory with no regards to preserving the integrity of what music is really all about. The message has been lost in today’s music world.

I’m hoping to see Tom Petty when he comes to LA in Oct.

  64. Ange Bleu Says:

Gee, Rosie, are you saying you’re leaving, or what?

  65. Ange Bleu Says:

I’ve been called far worse than an evil old biddy. I’m 6 l/2 years younger than Taylor, yet Taylor hating posters (not here, of course) have called me an ugly, delusional old hag, driving around in a wheelchair and living in an old-age home. More than once, when I answered them back, my reply was deleted. It happens to everybody.

  66. Ange Bleu, I did not take SS’ post personally. In the past she has directed mean comments directly to me that were not deleted. This was just one of her generic rants, that I happened to respond to , in a manner that I doubt anyone here would find offensive or hurtful. But how would I know how she or anyone would find my comments, since they never saw the light of day? It seems no one is free to comment in respond to her. I guess I’d understand what was wrong with my post if iag emailed me. It is her blog. The way it now stands, SS or anyone reading must think I said something hateful or hurtful. It takes away from SS when no one is allowed to engage her in a discussion. My opinion, her recent (special status), leaves her as just a wondering ranting being, who is denied feedback on her opinions. That is a lonely thing, not a good thing. Today, is a sad day for many Tay fans who met, knew or posted with Harp&Soul, Karen Fowler, who passed away early this morning.

  67. rosie…it was my pleasure and honour to know Karen. She was a very talented and creative photographer and her posts and spirit were full of humour and caring. We will miss her on the boards and at the concerts.

  68. taylorfan06 Says:

Very sad to hear about Karen’s passing. I remember reading her posts over the years. Taylor had a wonderful fan in her. My thoughts are with her and her family and friends at this difficult time.

  69. casualfan Says:

It’s a sad day when anyone passes. I remember when another SPr passed a few months ago in a car crash. I think about my own illness this passed summer and how I appreciate my life and the people in it even more.

I only knew Karen from around the Net and when she posted on Morph’s old blog. She went by the sn Tuna and SimonsTaco or something like that. She was a dedicated fan of Taylor’s and no doubt alot of the fans will miss her.
