  1. Sounds to me like Taylor is headed for the big screen and hopefully will have some time to stay in one place while filming and write some fantastic music to record when the filming is over.

  2. Interesting body language. I can see where he’s a ladies’ man. He mentioned that he had received offers from TV and movies. As far as TV goes, I hope he isn’t talking about being a contestant on The Apprentice or Dancing with the Stars. He’s certainly not tough enough for Apprentice. Rather, I hope he’s being offered a part in a series or maybe being on some sort of talk or game show.

Personally, I think he’d make a great leading man in a film comedy or musical. He’s certainly good looking enough to compete with the best of them.

  3. I think “Dancing with the Stars” would be a hoot. You know, a play on his Cowell criticisms for dancing like a drunk dad, yadda, yadda. I’d tune in.

  4. Thinking he’s scoring a leading man role is really very funny. The man does not have quite the acting chops for that – let’s put one foot in reality for a moment… lol

  5. I’m hoping to see him in a movie role but I agree with Sunny- it would have to be a small cameo and maybe sing a song in the movie. I think that would be beyond wonderful!

  6. Oh and I couldn’t go away without commenting that his thighs are looking especially yummy in that clip

  7. casualfan Says:

Sunny-So far you are the only one who makes any sense here. Thanks for keepin it real 😉

  8. Love the “grace” a Broadway stage. lol Thighs looking yummy? He’s sitting down. Is there a different clip I’m not seeing? x-D

  9. Both Ace & Daughtry did cameos on TV. I could see Taylor doing that. So far I think only the female alumni have scored roles with some substance.
I’d settle for having his songs in the movies or on TV.

  10. TV and movie roles… I’ll believe it when I see it. I personally think he is embellishing the truth. Not the first time he’s done this.

Whatever happened to that song he was holding for a superstar? It’s been over a year and nobody has ever heard a thing about this.

  11. Taylor should be knocking on T-Bone Burnett’s door. Now there’s someone who can truly help him with his music career.

  12. Dee, yeah, even as some sort of background tune on a show gets the artist some exposure.

  13. Some of the best actors and actress have never had any formal training. It is just as silly and unrealistic to assume he can’t act as it is to assume he can act. As for this interview and others, so many who meet him make a point of saying Taylor is so nice. He always leaves behind that air of mystery, which I assume has to do with his charisma. BTW, should Taylor do well in a meaty acting role, I’m going to enjoy saying I told you so.

  14. Sunny are you blind? You didn’t see that big gorgeous thigh when he crossed his legs sitting on the couch? Rosie if you say “I told you so” I would be very happy! 🙂

  15. casualfan Says:

I see there will be a debate if T can act or not….LOL! Peeps are definitly bored in Tayland.

Snow-I’m inclined to believe that also. Taylor has the talent for embellishing and he loves throwing out fresh meat to the wolves. Looks like he threw out a right tasty one that will be subject of debate and speculation for weeks to come.

  16. I’m sure Film and TV offers are as elusive as all jobs in Hollywood. Just the fact that he’s getting offers is a good sign for his career. Hopefully one will pan out. As far as the song on hold for a star, I’m sure it was beyond exciting for him so he shared it with his fans. Songs on hold are just that “On Hold”. In putting together a CD many songs are a possibility until the final pick. Just that others are taking a look at his songs puts him in a good place to be. How many other artists would love to be able to get a huge star to even take a look at, let alone consider their song?

  17. Snowstorm Says:

cf, where will all that speculation lead to? No where, as usual, that’s where… just like that elusive superstar who was/is interested in one of his songs… that mystery superstar that nobody has any clue who it is. Hmm, does this person even exist? You think by now someone would have spilled the beans.

Isn’t anybody else tired of these mysteries and mind games? Why does this sound like desperation to hold on to a few fans?

Again, I’ll believe it, when I see it.

  18. SS, you let yourself get so screwed up with your negativity, that sometimes you don’t even sound logical. Maybe You Should is a good song and one he would have released as the first or second single were it not on hold for someone else. That is logic working. He has always kept things close to the vest and as Hicksholic said his grandma said Tay knows that if she new what he had up his sleeve, post Grease, she’d spill the beans. Taylor is far from desparate.

  19. A Song getting put on hold is very exciting for a song writer and when they are put on hold rarely if ever is it revealed to fans who it was for. No great Taylor conspiracy just they way it plays out.

  20. Snowstorm Says:

If he wasn’t going to reveal who it is, then why even bother putting it out there? Don’t you see… this is like someone dangling a carrot in front of you. He’s manipulating you and you’re falling for it!

Please stop being so gullible… you have no freaking clue who Taylor is. Why would you believe everything an entertainer and total stranger says? You also believe everything that’s put on the internet? HAHA!!

Again, I’ll believe it, when I see it!

  21. Taylor once said that he wasn’t that desparate to take off his pants. Hmm, meaty, sexy thighs…

  22. Snowstorm Says:

Taylor is looking chunky again! It’s pretty obvious he does not exercise! Nobody is going to hire him for acting jobs looking like that!

  23. Snowstorm says:

Whatever happened to that song he was holding for a superstar? It’s been over a year and nobody has ever heard a thing about this.

I have to agree with Snow. I hardly post here any more, but some things need to be said. “Embellishing the truth” is one of them. Put that “holding the song for the superstar” carrot in the same bunch with
    *video blogs
    *online fan chats
*live shows at every “Grease” venue
*that long list of media appearances when he signed with A2M to promote “The Distance”
*”Whomp at the Warfield”….. oh wait, he did release that 2 years later

His disappointing CD’s, coy allusions to never-realized projects, and the crazy ass fan base, has completely turned me off of this performer.

There’s much, MUCH more worthwhile music/bands out there.. put out by TRUE musicians who will play any venue, any size, any place just to get their music heard. These artists don’t allow themselves to be side-tracked by the Glittery Hand of Fame, they really ARE ‘all about the MUSIC’.

    *awaits wrath of Soul Patrol*

  24. YKW I agree with a lot of what you say. Just recently I read an article where he said he does “monthly” live chats with the fans. Uhhh, so far he’s done ONE. I know that half the time he’s full of shit but I still like him and follow him because I really do believe he has talent and that musically, he’s only going to get better. I’ve seen his music and voice growing and getting better.

You’re right, there are tons of artists who are much better but I just see this potential in him, and although it might take a few years I believe he will reach that level. He might not ever reach huge fame, but if the music is good, I will stay along for the ride to watch him grow.

Oh, and the chunkiness is HOT! LOL

  25. YKW you are entitled to your opinion. No complaint from me. The entertainment business has lots of stops and starts. One thing is in the works and then it isn’t. It’s not just Taylor. I really don’t get upset when things don’t go as he planned. I have enough to just keep my own life and business in order, I don’t fret about his. AND I don’t get upset at him if he chooses a career path different than my vision for him. It’s his life. I still enjoy his music and still enjoy watching his career and talking about it with other music fans.
And to Snow: I’ve heard song writers and artists talk about having songs on hold and not reveal who had a hold on it. Quite often the hold on the song runs out and the song writer still doesn’t reveal who had the hold. I see it as no big deal. I don’t need to know every deal that is made or falls through.

  26. CHUNKY MONKEY!!!!!!

  27. Ange Bleu Says:

I have heard and read that he did take screen tests when he was out here in either April or May last year. Don’t know what this was for. Maybe for some advertising commercial. TV ads can be very expensive & they do test for them to avoid making bad choices. Even if an actor does not have strong acting chops, directors will have drama coaches work with them if they are otherwise right for a part. As far as exaggerating his offers, in one interview over six months ago Taylor did mention a couple of Broadway plays he turned down. Why would he do that if he was fabricating? The producers would know it wasn’t so and it would make him look really bad.

  28. Snowstorm Says:

Being overweight is a BIG NO NO in Hollywood. I can’t even think of any overweight male actors in Hollywood. Take my word for it, no one will hire him. He needs to get in better shape. I would suggest he hire a trainer.

He will also have to live in Hollywood or at least New York. No one will hire him if he’s living in Alabama!

  29. hicksaholic Says:

Damn, I just spent 10 minutes posting a very thoughtful response to this discussion and it got lost. I hate it when that happens.

    Gist of it
agree Taylor does embellish(ie toured Asia)
Think he will have several opportunities post Grease Question is how good will they be?
Doubt Taylor has enough natural acting skills to be a lead in any professional entertainment role unless it is talk show or variety series(not that there are any of those any more.)
Taylor seems easy to read to me. I would guess it would take training to get him to pretend. But if he was able to do it he is very expressive particularly his eyes.
My first post was so much more profound.

  30. He may have thought he had or could have those appearances to promote The Distance. One does not have to live in NY or LA to act in a movie. Most movies are filmed elsewhere and very few TV shows or movies are done in NY. A screen test is arranged by his agency and they are done for movies or TV, not for commercials. You all forget that Elvis was less educated and wordly than Tay, had a deeper accent, no acting experience or lessons, yet did some dramatic roles quite well. There are many overweight movie actors in Hollywood, they just are not sex symbols, well I guess you could say Nicholson is still sexy to some. Those things such as Tay not being able to hide his emotions, due to his expressive eyes, will work in his favor, not against. So much of acting is reaction to the other players, which Tay has learned to do even in Grease. Taylor was used to bragging and self promotion fibs to get his foot in the door, pre AI. Now he thwarts the jabbing questions in interviews, by listing the things he has done post AI, to show he has been busy and successful. YKW seems so disgusted with him for things that seem so minor to me. As for the fans being crazy who post online, well part of that comes from the AI connection and most of it is just human nature. To me it is more amazing that there are conversations and even friendships due to liking Taylor Hicks, amongst varying ages and class. I love AI for exposing the talent of several unknown singers, and am happy Taylor tried out and succeeded. There are so many worse things than telling little fibs, or being a self promoter or an optomist.

  31. littlewing Says:

Well, I am glad for Taylor getting some acting offers and he may do a fine job, who knows. OTOH, I am a bit disappointed. When can he find the time to just free flow with the band and write lyrics? Is he building up his publishing co. as we speak? We really don’t know what all he has up his sleeve but I agree with SS – I wish he’d be concentrating exclusively on the music at this point and talking with producers. Hopefully his acting gigs will parlay into the music. We’ll see.

  32. Snowstorm Says:

Nicholson.. that flabby, old guy, who looks like a lizard??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

  33. Off topic: Taylor Hicks News interviewed Josh Smith about his new album. Was very interesting, listen here: http://chirb.it/Dm8y2M

  34. YKW-You are right on the mark and I completely agree! Both you and Sunny keep it real.

Speaking of interviews….Cindy Wright interviewed T again. I’m proud of her and so happy that she has been able to establish a professional relationship with both T and his team. Congrats to Cindy for another great interview!

  35. LOL. I can think of several guys that have had to slim down with a trainer before a movie unless it’s for a fat part. Just to name a few: Matt Damon, Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Russell Crowe, Wentworth Miller, Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

  36. I think the whole weight argument is silly. If a person is happy and healthy it doesn’t matter what their weight is. People who take up issues with other people’s weight usually have serious issues themselves they should address-just my HO of course.

  37. On what YKW brought up that some may think unimportant, or trivial untruths/things not come to pass:

    *video blogs
(Wasn’t this something promised to fans to get them to sign up at .ning?)

    *online fan chats
(He specifically did say this would happen for those fans who signed up on .ning then he did one that lasted really just a very few minutes…)

*live shows at every “Grease” venue
(Apparently none were ever booked in advance; hard to get venues if fan interest not heavily apparent unless you want to pay for the room/the time to play at the bar. Then the risk is that perhaps you can’t fill the room and that would not look very good.)

*that long list of media appearances when he signed with A2M to promote “The Distance”
(This promise made again like the appearances, nothing scheduled in advance. Now he has had many interviews along the route but much were of course, “Grease” related.)

*”Whomp at the Warfield”….. oh wait, he did release that 2 years later
(at least he did get it released)

His disappointing CD’s, coy allusions to never-realized projects, and the crazy ass fan base, has completely turned me off of this performer.
(The CDs have held disappointments for me as well but that’s just my taste, there have been a few good tunes along the way. Of course some absolutely love them. The crazy ass fan base, now that’s the killer really.)

Did you know that if you use anonymouse that it is still traceable as you; your IP will target the same anonymouse IP each time you log into it? So whereas your computer IP may not show up ‘your’ anonymouse IP will, once you’re ‘tagged’. True story.

He’s on twitter a little bit more but mostly shots of scenes where he is; sadly following the aftermath of his head shot, those may be fewer and farther between. lol You know, overall though, I completely understand why he is the way he is regarding not interaction more with his fans…

  38. *interacting* rather than *interaction* mas cafe por favor…

  39. Yadayadayada. Did I land at the complaint counter? Josh implied that Taylor has trouble booking the venues and getting a band together to travel to where he is performing in Grease. He does 8 shows a week and while I know some of you want him to work 9 gigs a week, I think he would if he could. Perhaps this has not worked out as well as he thought it would with the shadow gigs, and he wishes Grease was over yesterday. He can’t bail on his commitment. I’m sure he’d like to bail on some of his nagging fans at both ends of the spectrum. Still think Grey should show up at Grease and deliver some of these gripes in person or pass a note to him. Now that would be ballsy!

  40. casualfan Says:

He’s on twitter a little bit more but mostly shots of scenes where he is; sadly following the aftermath of his head shot, those may be fewer and farther between.
    ===============================================
A few of those comments got deleted from his twitpic. There are some unbalanced Twits on Twitter.

  41. Snowstorm Says:

Sunny, I think it’s clear he doesn’t really like fan interaction. I have no idea why, but I’m sure there are reasons behind it (probably scary-assed fans). When you compare his tweets to other idols, it’s a half assed effort. Only following five people tells me, he’s only interested in getting followers, but he doesn’t want to bother following anybody else. An Idol winner only having a little over 5,000 followers is more than sad and it’s because he doesn’t make the effort.

cf, happy and healthy has nothing to do with it. If you are an overweight actor, your chances of finding acting jobs are slim to none.

  44. casualfan Says:

Wow! Did anyone know that Elliot Yamin was at Workplay in B’ham last night? This came off MJ’s blog
    ============================================

Easy to like Elliott Yamin at Birmingham’s WorkPlay, but why such a short set?

Elliott Yamin, Monday night at the WorkPlay theater in Birmingham, Alabama. Review rating: Three out of five stars.

Pros: This was a cool little show with an intimate, laid-back vibe. Yamin and his troupe seemed relaxed and in sync; the sound they created was rich, full and funky. Yamin isn’t the most polished frontman on the planet, but his everyman attitude makes him extremely likable. More important, he has a strong voice with a soulful timbre.

Cons: The set length was much too short, clocking in at 45 minutes plus encores. Yamin was on stage for an hour, tops. OK, so it was a Monday night and there were a couple of opening acts, Ryan Kinder and Matt Brodeur. But with two albums to his credit, surely Yamin has enough material for a standard 75-90 minute set. Why so skimpy, Elliott?

  45. Another name came to mind for the overwieght actor list: Gerard Butler. Now that is one fine hunk of man whether he is thin or packing some extra pounds. LOL.

  46. Snowstorm Says:

Gerard Butler is not overweight! WTH?

  47. Ooo! Dee I love Gerard Butler. He’s a bit chunky but he carries it so well. Totally dig his accent.

Rosie, I’m not complaining, just observing; he DID say in print that he’d be doing MONTHLY chats with fans in that .ning thing. It’s why I joined it to see if that materialized and how it would go. That first one (and last) did not go for more than about 15 minutes. lol I really don’t care, but it is what he said …

  48. Yea Sunny I think Taylor’s ADD kicks in alot on these good intentions but doesn’t materialize. LOL. If I had his schedule and all the directions he is pulled in I’d probably be even worse. I’m with you Sunny on Gerard’s accent….melting just thinking about it. LOL.

  49. Blaming it on his ADD is not a good enough excuse. That’s what personal assistants are for to keep you focused and organized. Bill Will did a poor job. His mistake was hiring friends to assist him. You always want to hire entertainment professionals who have experience and know they’re doing.

  50. littlewing Says:

It’s become a trend now for Taylor to not follow through on his stated intentions. Big disconnect there. I know he’s busy, but just a little blog entry here and there to touch base with fans would be good enough for me. He has a powerful tool in Twitter and could help further his causes there. So I do wish he’d explore that too. Not complainin’, just stating my observations/wishes.

Ned Beatty is a great “bigger” actor. Love that guy, arguably the most talented character actor ever.

  51. I think T’s management team at CAM has helped him tremendously on the upkeep and updates but IMO, he needs a good solid PR team to go out and connect more with the fans. As I said with the MFOYA incident-that would have NEVER gotten as far as it did if he had the right people in place.

  52. Poke Salad Annie Says:

Wonder what John Goodman would say about the overweight thing…He seems to get acting parts ok. To be factual in a movie, you have to include larger people cause it is a fact, some people are heavy…not everyone is model thin. Just look around you when you’re out in public. And Taylor is no where near fat. He’s just fine in the looks department.

  53. What about Alex Baldwin…he’s no lightweight….but he is still very successful

  54. Yes Anne thought of Alex right away but I just listed guys closer to Taylor age group. John Goodman has just gone beyond “over weight ” in my opinion. As talented as he is I bet he’s lost a ton of job offers because of his size.

  55. hicksaholic Says:

I don’t think Taylor’s weight is an issue for any acting gigs but that’s just my opinion. Although he is not muscle hard like some of the young Hollywood actors Taylor’s appeal on AI was his everyday guy image and he was a hell of a lot bigger then than he is now. Taylor looks fine to me.

  56. All the actors you listed are ALL in their 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Why do his fans always forget that Taylor is ONLY 33 (nevermind that he looks 50!), he’s STILL a YOUNG man!!

  57. casualfan Says:

I think Alec Baldwin is still a total hottie. He’s got a voice that is soft, sexy too. I have always adored him.

  58. WOW Snow, I believe Matt Damon, Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Russell Crowe, Wentworth Miller, Phillip Seymour Hoffman would be surprised to know they are in the 50 to 70 year old group. LOL.

  59. Taylor and Ruben are going to be celebrity judges on a contest running from Feb 6th to May 21st. The winner of the singing competition gets $100,000 and a record company audition. The show will be like AI and is connected to the casinos in the south. Since it takes place at 10:30 pm on Sat. nights, the question is how can he do Grease and this at the same time. He can’t.

  60. Snowstorm Says:

Dee, don’t be ridiculous… none of those actors are fat and they are seasoned actors! Phillip Seymour Hoffman is chubby, but he is seasoned actor and no where in the league of Taylor Hicks who flys an ice cream cone and sings Beauty School Dropout 8 times a week. Please, have some perspective here!

  61. Intriguing bit of news Rosie! I hope he does the celebrity judge thing.

  62. casualfan Says:

Since it takes place at 10:30 pm on Sat. nights, the question is how can he do Grease and this at the same time. He can’t.
    =============================================
Is this rumor or has it been confirmed? If it’s true then he obviously has found a way to do both.

I find it interesting that he’s going to judge on who will get a recording contract when his own music career is in a dire state.

  63. casualfan Says:

Ok, just saw that on MJ’s blog. He’s listed as a celebrity judge which I thought meant guest judge, but I can be wrong. AI had weekly celebrity judges at one point which IMO was fun and added to the excitement of the show.

  64. Anyone hear Adam Lambert on Oprah today? He said, “I realized I should enjoy this moment to the fullest. There are people who have won this competition that you never hear of anymore.”

Good head on that kid’s shoulders! 😉

  65. casualfan Says:

I agree YKW. People call Adam Lambert a fake, and he’s everything but. He’s one of the few that is honest and sincere, not to mention intelligent, bright and very talented. For me at least, he truly broke the mold on AI.

  66. littlewing Says:

I think T’s management team at CAM has helped him tremendously on the upkeep and updates but IMO, he needs a good solid PR team to go out and connect more with the fans. As I said with the MFOYA incident-that would have NEVER gotten as far as it did if he had the right people in place.

CF, I agree on having a solid PR team. I haven’t kept up with everything so appreciate the info regarding CAM.

The MFOYA thing may well have been circumvented, but I don’t know if anyone could’ve stopped the obsessed people behind it. I guess anyone’s fair game on the net but but the whole thing was so ridiculous I never even wasted my time there. I went back and read the some of the archives a few months back and it all seemed so stupid. (the red lines on the comparison pix?!) It was plain libelous but Taylor was probably best off not to even acknowledge them.

  67. Come on Snow You are the ridiculous one. Every actor I mentioned has their weight go up and down just like Taylor. NO, I would not call them FAT any more than I would call Taylor FAT. You were the one calling Taylor too overwieght for Hollywood. I just listed actors who also tend to pack on some pounds and have to slim back down. Just the other day my daughter saw Luke Wilson on a TV commercial and said Boy he’s putting on weight. LOL. And Gerard Butler a couple of weeks ago in an interview talked about how he had put on weight and had pic show up in the tabloids. MY POINT is these are just normal guys. We like them when they are thin we still like them when they have some love handles. Also, I said nothing about comparing acting skills since I have no idea if Taylor has any or not. I was just addressing YOU ruling him out because of his weight. So get some some perspective yourself. LOL.

  68. Well said Dee….also even the actors themselves will admit that weight for the men is NOT the issue it is for the ladies of Hollywood in getting roles.

  69. hicksaholic Says:

I had read the celebrity judge news and assumed he would do it just by hearing them on a recording if he was doing it the entire competition until the end when he might be live. Otherwise he must be only judging at the final stages of the competition. I’ve seen the ads on tv but no mention of Taylor or Ruben. The actual competition is in three different casinos, Atmore, Wetumka, and one more I can’t remember so he couldn’t be in each of them anyway. Probably individuals will advance weekly and at the end Taylor and Ruben will be involved.

  70. Anne, sadly that is such a lopsided issue. Overall actresses/singers have much more pressure to stay thin and never age. No wonder so many of them get so odd.

This practice for perfection carries over in some social atmospheres as well; where I am in Dallas, with some of the individuals I interact with socially and with work – plastics, botox, dermabrasion, dental work such as gum lifts and veneers a way of life rather than outside the norm.

Isn’t this fun how our conversations wander in and out of the original topic? Grey likely reads this and just shakes her head.

Regarding Hicks guest judging and time slot – perhaps the show is not live, rather it’s taped at another time? This is the first I’ve heard of it, has he mentioned it in any interviews? Link?

  71. I still stand by my words…. if Hicks is serious about an acting career, he needs to lose a few pounds and get in better physical shape, otherwise nobody is going to give him the time of day. Also, the double chin is unattractive. Liposuction will take care of that problem.

  72. Double chin is damn cute. 😀
