Always the optimist…and the drinker…

Found this tonight while surfing. I love it when he interacts with the audience like this.

  1. Two fun videos – thanks IAG! That’s Taylor – playing, living life, and playing some more!!!

  2. I was wondering when the grimacing face was going to appear!!

  3. Fun stuff!

  4. He has the winning combination to be funny; good personality, sense of humor and a rubbery cute face. Those eyes and eyebrows come in handy as teen angel.

  5. USA Today mentioned Otis’s positive opinion about Taylor. Perhaps Taylor read it while eating breakfast this morning. Some others such as Ray L. and Van M. could be more gracious towards Hicks.

Always love Taylor when he is loose and relaxed just having fun with the crowd. Its nice when he opens up like that and goes back and forth with them.

Rosie, Saw that article, its nice that he thinks Taylor is very talented! 🙂

Otis mentioning T in a positive light is a wonderful thing. Not sure why you think Ray L and Van M could be more gracious about T though.

I don’t think Ray L or Van M are the type artists that express admiration for any artist but they haven’t said anything specifically against Taylor have they? They seem like reclusive artists that just do their thing and are not very social(but that’s only my opinion based on my limited knowledge of both)

  9. I think somewhere along the line Ray L made a snarky comment regarding Taylor but I can’t remember what he said. You are right that these two musicians are very reclusive and I feel it’s safe to assume very protective of their music.

  10. Maybe nobody has asked either of them their opinion of Taylor? (like in an interview) – or of A.I. in general. After all, Otis didn’t just spit out his opinion of Taylor out of the blue – it was within the confines of the question asked in the interview….

  11. I don’t know about VM but I know RL was very ungracious towards Taylor at one point. I read the comments somewhere a few months ago but won’t repeat them here. It was bad enough to make me loose interest in him. I don’t like snooty and condescending musicians/actors etc.

  12. Taylor has mentioned Van’s music in a positive way in numerous interviews and I’m sure it has helped Van’s sales. They crossed paths at R & K and I hoped Van tried to be friendly and pleasant. RL should have been thrilled that Taylor sang Trouble on AI and mentioned the song in interviews since RL wasn’t a household name in 2006. Ray Charles was bigger than both of them put together yet his people were so gracious to Taylor. Guess it boils down to appreciation and kindness to other musicians.

  13. Nola-most musicians/actors are condescending. It’s the nature of the business. 😉

  14. Taylor has mentioned Van’s music in a positive way in numerous interviews and I’m sure it has helped Van’s sales

That’s a nice thought Rosie. Van Morrison was around LONG before Taylor and has enjoyed decades of critical acclaim. If Taylor has “helped” Morrison’s sales, realistically it’s been only in the smallest way. But every little ripple helps, I suppose.

  15. Van Morrison has influenced a lot of musicians and will continue to do so. His song writing is legendary in part because he thinks outside the box.

  16. Oh, yes. Van Morrison is indeed an original. There’s not enough artists like him around now.

  17. And I have to agree with YKW. The thought of Taylor helping out Van Morrison’s sales makes me a giggle a little bit.

  18. Funny how this is under IAG’s optimist and drinkers blog. I have no problem with my comments and opinions making some giggle or post to exclaim the success of other artists or in their own way give Hicks a shot. AI is AI, a hugely popular TV show, at its highest ratings in 2006 when Hicks won. Established singers vied to appear, sing and or mentor. I’m not into arguing and for the most part I consider blogs just places to comment rather than debate. So I won’t. Neither Van or R.L. could have won AI against Tay or the other 7 winners. As for musicians being weird or reclusive, I say crap. People have said that about all in the arts, all art mediums from acting to painting. It isn’t factual and peeps in all occupations fare the same psychologicaly speaking. Check out the stats. Being rude or ungrateful is a deficent of a person, not one’s career or abilities or talents. Love and admire and respect your favorite artists and to each his own.

  19. The highest rating of “American Idol” is held by Ruben Studdard’s coronation in 2003 where 38 million viewers tuned in. On the second position is the coronation of Taylor Hicks at 36.4 million, followed by David Cook at 31.7 million, Jordin Sparks at 30.7 million and Carrie Underwood at 30.3 million. Kelly Clarkson’s finale that received 22.8 million is exceptional for it was the kick starter of the whole American Idol experience.

    Amen

  21. Great Post Rosie – you make good points and well stated.

  22. I think you’re right Rosie. RL nor VM could have beat Taylor…but only because it’s mostly about stage presence, not musical talent.
