Better to be pissed off than pissed on…

I got an email alerting me that Taylor had a new blog post on his MySpace. So, I went over there and found a blank page. Then I traveled over to the boogies and found it.

A Note From Taylor’s Management

Dear Taylor fan:

Thank you so much for all of your support and excitement while we venture with Taylor into the world of country radio with ‘Seven Mile Breakdown.’ Although your enthusiasm is greatly appreciated, we need to politely ask that you try not to call and email radio stations requesting Taylor’s song more than twice per week. Radio does positively respond to audience reaction, but there is a limit and we don’t want to cross it. Again, you are a wonderful group of fans who have Taylor’s best interest at heart, so we appreciate your understanding in keeping the single requests to a minimum. If each of you call your local stations twice per week that will be enough to make a significant impact!

Thank you!
Management

Oh boy…I knew inundating the radio stations was not going to be the way to get Taylor played. Somebody got pissed off and let Taylor’s management know about it.

But now, the blog is gone. Wonder what that means. Did Taylor decide it wasn’t a good idea? Did he lose his balls, as Rosie would put it? Or was this done without Taylor’s knowledge?

Hmm…this might be a bigger conspiracy than the wristband. Or not.

My guess.. The sites could have been hacked.

  2. casualfan Says:

    LOL! IAG-you are great!

To me the request was polite and not offensive.

  3. casualfan Says:

And you had to bring up the “black hair-tie” conspiracy! LOL!!!!!!!!!

  4. Hey, I’m still wondering about the black wristband. Don’t worry, though…I have my theories. (as if it really mattered) 😆

  5. casualfan Says:

The best thing he ever did was to take off that thing!

  6. jerseyirish Says:

Maybe someone overstepped their authortiy and put it up then it had to be taken down. Myself only been making phone requests once a week the same with e-mail. The media base been doing more frequently but not over doing it. If that is the case seems he gets singled out, others have fanbases do it with no problem. The stations say he is request only, if they don’t want the requests put him on the playlist.

Always wondered about that wrist band, that was a well kept secret.

    JI

  7. The same thing happened when the Taylor Hicks CD came out.

  8. casualfan Says:

Yep! But you know the “conspiracy” is starting to rear it’s ugly face again.

  9. Which one? I’m confused…

    The wristband conspiracy?
The Everybody in teh world hates Taylor Hicks conspiracy?
The They won’t play his music unless I tell them to conspiracy?

So many conspiracies, so little time…

  10. Tay is still ballsy. For some reason I checked his myspace earlier and saw it and alerted Henry 8 who pointed out it never said no online request forms. Tay did The Triple Door til almost midnight and then had to wind down, so he may not even been awake when it was posted. The theories are a hacker, a change of mind, or someone over stepping their bounds, or else just sucky management whoever management is. Take your pick but let Taylor keep his balls.

  11. casualfan Says:

I think all these conspiracies with Taylor Hicks makes better reading than the JFK conspiracies. Maybe someone will write a book someday…oh wait! Some already have! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Notice how much fatter his wrist is in the above photo and the extra chin and his neck trapped in a too tight shirt collar. Still he was cute and smiley but thin Tay is hot and smiley!

  13. Oh please, not the “Thin Tay is hotter” conspiracy! My heart can’t take another one today

  14. Oh no…we’re not even going there.

  15. casualfan Says:

LOL! I like the fluffy Tay better…..more to love

  16. casualfan Says:

LOL Sierra! Wait till the Payola novel hits the stands! AGAIN!

  17. Shadowless Soul Says:

rosie.. he can keep his balls.. I think that’s where the wrist band disappeared too.. but that’s another story entirely.

    😯

  18. Shadowless, I can think of one apendage where that wrist band would fit nicely around. O’kay, I exagerate it might slip off!

  19. littlewing Says:

I still haven’t requested SMB w/ local DJ but plan to. Without big record co backing and the $$ that goes with it, I think it’s important to get some buzz out there. Speaking of conspiracies, wonder if those OTT D fans are or will be spamming DJ’s like before?

  20. casualfan Says:

Probably LW but with Daughtry it doesn’t matter…his music will be played because he’s popular among the masses. His CD will most likely debut in the top 10 of the charts.

  21. littlewing Says:

No doubt CF, he had the winning formula and appealed to a lot of people so why not? I don’t really give his fringe fans that much credit for derailing the first CD, though *some* of his fans didn’t help anything first time around. It was just an interesting phenomena in the fan wars. But I personally love Daughtry and his band (well the heavier rock stuff) and wish him only the best.

  22. Don’t know if littlewing meant that Chris fans pose as Tay fans and spam the djs. I read that was the theory when JTFTW was his single. I wasn’t around so I have no clue if it was a fact or a conspiracy idea. I think D’s single is already in the top 10.

  23. littlewing Says:

yeah, that’s what I meant Rosie. Doesn’t really matter at this point but I think it’s a safe bet that some took part in spamming, esp. in the days of “TH”.

  24. casualfan Says:

that could be but these fan wars are just ridiculous. Seems it’s an never ending circle of viciousness, hatred and jealousy. Then you have the sites who thrive on the controversy and it makes matters worse.

  25. casualfan Says:

I agree with you LW. Daughtry deserves all the success he’s gotten and will continue to get. Same goes for Mr. Hicks. Taylor would have been better off not winning that cursed title.

  26. Daughtry fans?

No way. A couple of fans on the fringe aren’t going to be able to cause enough problems that Taylor’s management has to get involved. This is another matter of the Soul Patrol trying to shove Taylor down the throat of anybody and everybody.

And of course, we’re not going to get any kind of explanation from Taylor regarding why the message was up, or even why it’s down.

  27. JumpedtheShark Says:

You’d think by now the Soul Patrolers would figure out that hounding DJ’s doesn’t work. Is this not the 2nd time they’ve been scolded by Taylor’s management?

  28. Snowstorm Says:

I think the blog was pulled because of all the bitchy comments he was getting.

  29. I think they took the message down because it was causing everyone to argue and fight. Soul patrol is too immature to handle these things.

  30. casualfan Says:

    Sad, sad, sad

  31. So IAG can you tell us your theory of why he wore the black band?

  32. Have you gone back and seen the post about how fans SHOULD request, request request? So now I’m confused. Why does it work with everybody but TH?

  33. So was there some fighting and arguing going on or is that just speculation? I was out all day and by the time I got back I could not find the post about it. But there is one, a quotation about how fans hound DJ’s to get their favorite artists songs played, and it works. So now I’m a bit confused…..

  34. jerseyirish Says:

rajae, I’m confused also, he also twittered about it too, to call our local stations. Haven’t been back to his myspace to see if anything has gone up again. As far as the on line media base they say you can request up to 5 songs per hour, I’m sure Taylor’s fans are not the only ones doing it, so I don’t think that is a problem. I have been calling and or e-mailing once a week, how could that be overwhelming to a DJ, like other established artists fans don’t do the same thing, give me a break.

    JI

  35. A DJ told some fan on the BB that he would not play Taylor and she got so angry that she scolded him saying “He owes Taylor and the Soul Patrol an apology!” That’s just not right. Reminds me of when a mother does things that embarrass their kids not realizing the harm it causes.

  36. All I know is what the MAN said himself last night at the Triple Door. “Thank you all for requesting (7MB) it at the country stations”. That may be a paraphrase but he did seem pleased.
And BTW, he put on a fabulous show…the band is first rate and he sang his heart out. I can hardly wait for all the pics and recordings to come out.

  37. Requesting like a normal fan can’t be a bad thing. But berating a DJ won’t help. I’m guessing [see post above] there’s a few that take it overboard. Maybe his management knows this and are sending out fair warning?

  38. Snowstorm Says:

rajrae, some fans were bitching on his myspace. Don’t know who these people are, but one person stood out as very, very upset. She said something like she had to go outside to cool off… or something like that. Some fans were bitching that they don’t like that he went “country” and should stick to soul.

I really think that was the reason it was taken down.

  39. This is exactly why the SP is viewed as a bunch of crazies. Those fans who are outside the fray, and can see this group in all its colorful “glory” know this sentiment is true. They scold critics, bully bloggers, harass store personnel, and put the heat to DJ’s to get Mr. Hicks’ music played.

    Dear SP,
It’s NOT supposed to be this HARD!! When artists have marketable talent, they get airtime! When they have decent management, they get real publicity, like talk shows, etc, not radio interviews and golf tourneys.
It’s not that Taylor “can’t get a break”, it’s b/c Taylor is maybe just not that good.

There, I’ve said it. It’s been lurking in the back of my mind for a year or so now. Yes, he can sing. Yes, he’s a showman. But there are so many other dudes just like him … artists who have NOT had the name recognition of AI, but are selling out venues, selling volumes of CD’s and downloads, and are NOT getting radio play, either.
So what makes Mr. Hicks unable to get the elusive recognition of radio? Maybe that’s it… maybe he really isn’t that good.

  40. littlewing Says:

    Daughtry fans?

    No way

I wasn’t meaning to imply the D fans are the cause of the (now) pulled myspace request from Taylor…it just brought to mind the events of the past. But yeah, requesting is fine if done right, and I think most are going about it properly, but overzealousness on the part of some has obviously been a detriment.

  41. Snowstorm Says:

7Mile is not a bad song and few others are good as well, but some of the songs on The Distance (New Found Freedom) are just ca-ca. Of course, his Taylor Hicks cd, was just plain bad. Whoever decided to rip-off Ray Charles, needs to get out of the music business, pronto.

  42. jerseyirish Says:

Blue, That is just so wrong of anyone to do that to get bent out of shape if they say they won’t play it. When I call I keep it real light, just request the song and who I want to dedicate it too, they usually say ok thanks end of conversation. I’ve been in e-mail with one station that has the song on reivew, the dj e-mailed two weeks ago to explain that he is a new artist and they go on review first then by request. I e-mailed her back that night and thanked her for her time and asked if it would be ok to follow up in a week or two. She e-mailed back and said that would be thats great.

  43. jerseyirish Says:

NolaMar, Saw that he still holds the record, good for him!!!

    JI

  44. YKW- I don’t buy that. He IS good. Whenever I’ve seen him live, and even in the recent live videos- I can see and hear how good he is. He IS good, and he does deserve to get airplay but it’s just so very hard these days to break into radio. Unless you sing the kind of crap that’s already on radio these days, forget it. That’s why I never listen to the radio.

  45. NolaMar Says:

YKW, I don’t think that it’s that Tay is “not that good” at all. I think he does not have the mass appeal because he’s different, and his music is different. His style is a throwback to older types of music. That hurts him in the current music market. I don’t think that means he’s “not that good…”

  46. YKW, just out of curiosity I went around to look at the fan sites of other idols. Trust me, Taylors fans are no crazier than the other fans. They should be crazier, they have had to take a lot more bullsh**t than the other fans. As for music, it’s all a matter of taste. The stuff they put on the radio is so bland it puts me to sleep. I guess I could listen to it when I am having trouble sleeping, might work better than counting sheep. When I need to get some work done, I put Taylor on. There’s alot of life in Taylors music. But, each to his own.

  47. A DJ told some fan on the BB that he would not play Taylor and she got so angry that she scolded him saying “He owes Taylor and the Soul Patrol an apology!” That’s just not right. Reminds me of when a mother does things that embarrass their kids not realizing the harm it causes.

Blue…I think you were a little confused about this..the person on the BB did not get upset because they were told the DJ wouldn’t play Taylor it was because he did play Taylor and proceeded to bash Taylor and the song unmercifully . The DJ has a country song of his own that he is promoting so he has a agenda…it was the unfairness of the bashing of Taylor and his music that upset the BB poster. It was a call in to talk about the song and every caller hated the song and Taylor ..now I can see some not liking it (not everyone will) but I’m a little suspicious of every caller not liking the song. Say what you will but I believe it is entirely possible that the calls were screened. I;m sure that this will be ridiculed as a conspiry therory..but it is my opinion and I;m saying it is suspicious.
Oh and btw some Daughtry fans are pretty scary. TH is not the only artist with a very agressive fanbase.

  48. Snowstorm Says:

oliver, Lady Gaga puts you to sleep?

I think they took the message down because it was causing everyone to argue and fight. Soul patrol is too immature to handle these things.

    Dammit. I missed the fun?

  52. IAG….no one said the whole world was against Taylor..as I said in my post it is suspicious that every caller would call in to say they hated the song and no positive callers. Take it for what it’s worth..You have an opinion and so do I. It’s ok to differ. I thought that was the point of this blog..differing opinions.

  53. Lady Gaga made me want to cover my eyes and run screaming from the room when she was on AI. LOL

  54. “Dammit. I missed the fun?”

LOL Grey, I missed it too!! Maybe those Iideltard people got copies of it all and will feature it tomorrow?

“OMG, the whole world is not against Taylor.”

Probably not but sometimes it sure seems that way. I think it was pretty shitty of those DJs to do that. I saw another really negative jab at T a couple of days ago. Didn’t seem to be picked up by the BB or anyone else so I didn’t want to bring attention to it. I guess that’s why when I see something positive, like the article I linked above mentioning Taylor’s record with DIMYP being the last Coronation song to break in at #1, I get a bit excited about it. It’s rare indeed to see anything positive in the media about TH.

  55. Anne, you’re right I might have confused it. Sorry. But she still got angry at him for “bashing” Taylor instead of ignoring it. Now it makes more sense tho. Can’t be a coincidence that the day after her scolding him that blog is put up since Lola is connected to that station. Maybe she mentioned it. Does an angry fan demanding an apology from a DJ make Taylor look better? I sure don’t think so.

  56. jerseyirish Says:

blue, I agree no one should argue on Taylor’s behalf, if they say no, thanks and hang up.

    JI

  57. Blue…I absolutely agree with you. I would have been better to ignore the jerk….I was just that I wanted to point out it was not as simple as a DJ refusing to play Taylor. But I can understand why a fan of Taylor or anyone would be upset for malicious behaviour by a supossed professional. I would think a professional dj would play the song..if he didn’t like it just shut the F up and get on with the show.

  58. Right now I’m doing my best to try to be impartial as far as the ridiculous SP verses non SP nonsense. Blue you took one little comment out of context and one comment by a so called SP fan or non SP fan means shit. We can all find crazies if we look and all can misinterpert and label. YkW, you stated Tay’s problem is he isn’t good enough. That is your stated opinion after having thought about it for a year. Anyone with a different opinion would waste their time debating you. I do think you pissed a few people off, but so what. Taylor does want and needs requests to country radio stations and requesting on medibase forms is the best way. If I had some important business to attend to, I would not trust most people to make the call for me. Yes some seem to have called or even emailed radio stations in an over the top way. This happens with all artist fans. It is human nature. To imply that the SP are the only ones who have done such nonsense is well nonsense. The message from so called management was deleted as well as fans comments regarding same on the BB and on myspace. So take it that it was a mistake and go forth and either request or don’t request. Why the constant need some have to try to blame various fans or groups of fans. There was no fighting on the boards when the message was posted. I was there to read for myself. There were just some different opinions as to the merits or harm of such a request with the slight majority thinking that if Taylor really requested only 2 calls or emails per week from each fan then fans should abide by same. There was not only no request fans not vote for what they wanted stations to play on medibase sites, but hardly any time for most to be even aware of any so called management request.

  59. The Green Avi’s are out in force tonight!

  60. NolaMar Says:

For what it’s worth: I see that people are now saying it was “trolls” who put that message up because who is Taylor’s management? He is.

  61. Trolls? Seriously?

Yes, I’m sure if a troll managed to hack into Taylor’s myspace, the first thing that they would do is post a politely worded message to the fans, asking them to stop bothering the fucking dj’s. Yeah.

  62. mamaforpeace Says:

Maybe this should go on another board, but there’ll be many there, so I thought I’d come over here. Warning… this is a bit of a recap of last night at TTD, so skip it if you’re not interested:) To keep a bit on topic, Taylor did thank the fans for requesting SMBD, said it helped. I personally don’t call radio stations, but that’s just me, I don’t listen to radio.
The opening act was really good. Keri Noble. Check her out on Youtube. Really nice voice, good rapport with the audience… maybe she gave a little talk to TH since he was so talkative last night! She said that they had done a sound check together and that she “knew that he could sing, but she didn’t know that he could SING!!!” “You’re in for a treat”,
So TH comes out and announces that he is going to talk a lot because this is “dinner theatre, right” (as an aside, the food from the Wild Ginger is great). He starts with The Distance, and you can tell he is a bit nervous, not in his groove yet. But I must say, he is pretty cute about it. After a while, he relaxes and seems to really be having fun. It’s not the same experience as Cafe du Nord, because everybody is sitting down, it’s more “formal”. At one point, he picks up his guitar, then seems to think better of it, turns around to the audience and cracks up saying something to the effect of “I don’t think so… you damn guitar players out there!”, but all in good fun, no animosity, just an admission that he just can’t play the guitar as well as he’d like, I’m sure. He did play the harp after someone in the audience requested it. Someone else said, “Yeah, maybe you should!”, and Taylor responded, “Maybe I should!”. But we were only treated to a harp solo. When he came back for an encore (My Sweet Lord), he was for sure having fun now… almost seemed to be reluctant to get off the stage. The audience was really showing their appreciation, and he was obviously digging it. The highlights for me Heaven Knows into The Maze with various tags, Hide Nor Hair, Living on a Battlefield. Overall, really a good show. Too bad there still weren’t any slower, more intimate numbers. My husband who came along just for me, the sweet man, had this as his main criticism. He thinks Taylor has a really good voice and that it’s too bad it is too often drowned by the band. He felt it would have built more of a connection with the audience. I agree. I just hope Taylor can start feeling comfortable doing these more intimate songs… but we’ve been over that here! I think he’ll get there.
The audience was a bit skewed towards an older crowd (hey… I am one of them!), but there were young people as well. Lots of guys, and they seemed to be having a good time. Standing room only, so it was full, and there WERE people standing.
People sitting at the tables on either side of me knew of Taylor only through AI, had not seen him live before, and 2 of the woman didn’t know what cd’s he had put out since then, but after he came on stage, one of them leaned towards me and said, “He is a lot cuter in real life!”..
And the amazing thing, 4 days in Seattle, and no rain!!! Hardly any clouds! Wow!

  63. So he talked, he didn’t play guitar, and he didn’t sing any intimate numbers?

    Hmmm…

Did you take any pics? I heard he had boots on.

  64. mamaforpeace Says:

Oh, IAG, it was really a pretty good show! He did play guitar, just not solo. He did good really… I bet you he is going to surprise us all with that acoustic show coming up (fingers crossed!). Once he finds the confidence to do these more intimate numbers, I know he’ll be great at it. I could speculate as to why he doesn’t yet, but since I am not in his head or have any personal connections, that’s all it would be… useless speculations.
Boots on, yes! He looked damned good! The AI look.
No pics. Tried some vids, but the sound is terrible on most of them. Grrr!

  65. mamaforpeace Says:

And maybe the talking is the first step, you know, about feeling more comfortable with the audience.

  66. That has always been my only complaint about his concerts. I like concerts to be paced with slower songs in among the high energy songs. I think it is really hard to maintain a high octane pace for the whole concert and I’m not sure why he thinks it is necessary. A concert that slows down for more intimate numbers really connects with the crowd and then when it builds to a crescendo it will take the crowd even higher than it was before.

  67. We’ve talked about that before…and how maybe he doesn’t do slow songs to “connect” with the audience because it makes him too vulnerable. Hell, I don’t know. But, I’m with you, I wish he did do some of these slow numbers, like Maybe You Should or Indiscriminate Act of Kindness.

  68. mamaforpeace Says:

Dee, almost word for word what my husband said!

    Nicely said YKW!

  70. We’ve talked about that before…and how maybe he doesn’t do slow songs to “connect” with the audience because it makes him too vulnerable.

Or maybe he’s just not that into us.

  71. casualfan Says:

I think Taylor has problems with intimacy…don’t we all?

Anyway, I’m glad he put on a good show-of course I expected no less from him. I don’t agree with some of his choices, but he’s one hell of a live performer and leaves an impression that’s not forgotten.

  72. NolaMar Says:

One of the other recaps I read said he played a lot of guitar. The concert was cut short because the parking garage was closing at midnight. First they told him he had to be off the stage by 11:30 (he did not even start until 10:18!) but he or the band said no way, so they said OK, 11:45. Soul Thing was on the set list but they skipped it. (That’s just stuff I picked up from other recaps.)

I know Taylor had at least 2 or 3 slower songs mixed in when he was here at HOB. Don’t remember what they were now. Was not very familiar with any of his music yet when I saw him. I remember for one he sat on a stool, and I don’t think most of the band was playing with him. It was near the end, maybe the 1st encore.

The last time I checked both The Fall, and The Right Place were slow songs from Taylor’s sets.
Personally, I like the high energy stuff better to see Taylor “in the zone”!!!

  75. casualfan Says:

Last year when Taylor played at the BBQ benefit he only had a few people on stage with him and he sat on a stool with his guitar. I thought it was one of his most powerful performances and would love to see more of that from him.

Aw, so sweet! Thanks for the recap MFP. The one and only time I saw Taylor, when he broke out the guitar on “The Deal”, it was a poignant moment. I’d like to see more of that side of him too. The more he plays guitar, the better.

  77. jerseyirish Says:

MFP, Thanks for the recap, sounds like you and hubby enjoyed the show.

  79. Once he finds the confidence to do these more intimate numbers, I know he’ll be great at it.

Mama, Mr. Hicks has been performing live for over a decade!! If he’s not “confident” enough to perform slower, emo songs now, I doubt he’ll ever be.

  80. I get it – some of you want more of the slower, more boring music because you want to see into his soul, see him display his emotions. That’s the kind of music you like and that’s fine. But this is funny some time, with all the psychoanalysis. So I’ll add mine. People who have been kicked around a lot are less likely to allow themselves to be vulnerable. I’ve seen Taylor perform with just his guitar, or guitar and harp, or do WRIR, more in public appearances in the past 2 months than any high energy kind of music. 90% of it has been acoustic. Why can’t everyone just enjoy the music he does and not demand something more of him? Seriously… perhaps he just likes doing the high-energy stuff now, since his concerts are more spaced out. I bet he has a lot of pent up musical performance energy he needs to release. There, that’s my psychoanalysis of it. LOL

  81. NolaMar Says:

JI, did they actually just play it this time and not tear it to pieces?

  82. jerseyirish Says:

NolaMar, It was on the pre show for Fitz the guy who ripped him the other day. They must pre-program the songs ahead of time. I was surprised to hear it on his pre-show, didn’t hear what happened the other day but heard about it.

    JI

  83. mamaforpeace Says:

“Mama, Mr. Hicks has been performing live for over a decade!! If he’s not “confident” enough to perform slower, emo songs now, I doubt he’ll ever be.”
Well, that was before he was famous, and played in front of larger audiences who had sometimes unrealistic expectations of him.

“I get it – some of you want more of the slower, more boring music because you want to see into his soul, see him display his emotions.”
Mmmm! Slower=boring??? Did you like The Fall, or Sometime, or The Right Place, or ….? Just for the record, I love the high energy stuff. He is great at it. It’s a matter of pacing and showing diversity. Plus, I really love his voice, and it’s nice to hear it all by itself sometimes.

  84. Not joining the Taylor should/shouldn’t conversation but had to agree with this . . i

Last year when Taylor played at the BBQ benefit he only had a few people on stage with him and he sat on a stool with his guitar. I thought it was one of his most powerful performances and would love to see more of that from him.

For me it’s not so much the tempo ( Cohasset – my show benchmark – had plenty of rocking songs ) it’s that hard to define “something” that isn’t always there – but when it is – lightning in a bottle.

  85. People who have been kicked around a lot are less likely to allow themselves to be vulnerable.

Have to respectfully disagree with this . . since in a hurry today will chose one of my favorites and someone you all probably are aware of as an illustration but there are many others

  86. Snowstorm Says:

I’ll tell you what’s wrong with Taylor’s music… there no definition… it’s like a blur! Not quite country, not quite rock, not quite pop, not quite AC! Tries to please everyone and ends up pleasing nobody!

Why can’t Taylor sing more contemporary songs from this decade or last decade? He’s always singing songs from 30-40 years ago! No wonder the general public doesn’t like him!

  87. We’ve talked about that before…and how maybe he doesn’t do slow songs to “connect” with the audience because it makes him too vulnerable.

Or maybe he’s just not that into us.

    Once again…True speaks the truth.

  88. spinshack Says:

“I think Taylor has problems with intimacy…don’t we all?”

I agree, that is a huge hurdle for anyone to jump. It’s very freeing though if you go beyond past hang ups and just let it out.

I’ve never contacted radio stations for Mr. Hicks or anyone, doubtful I ever will. I did email 93.3 in Dallas about their playing Foy Vance, told them it was fantastic hearing him on the airwaves.

That MySpazz post, first I thought it was just an error, you know a blip. So instead we have controversy? Wait, that was what it was all about likely. How often have you guys clicked on the MySpazz again to see if it will reappear? ha.

Man, disappointed no pics or footage of the Seattle show up anyplace. Boo. That is something Mr. Hicks should do.

(There I go telling the man what to do.)

  89. Snowstorm Says:

What’s Right Is Right is a slow song! So, he didn’t sing this in Seattle? I’m surprised he didn’t sing it.

“Or maybe he’s just not that into us.”

I doubt very much that Taylor connects to his audience. He’s singing to a mostly middle-age audience, for pete’s sake! Taylor needs a balance of young and old and he doesn’t have it. He did this to himself – he has no one else to blame. He aged himself by singing OLD songs! I also noticed that his hair is now almost completely white. Three years ago, he still has lots of pepper in it.

Snow-That’s what “Americana Roots” music is. It’s a fusion of all types of music and is gaining in popularity. Taylor’s music for the most part fits into this.

  91. Snowstorm Says:

cf, well whatever that stuff is, it’s not mainstream, therefore, not popular! Niche market only and only appeals to the older generation… means trouble for the artist! If Taylor sticks with this music of oldies but goodies, he will be completely forgotten in a couple of years.

I’ve said this before… Taylor wants fame! Taylor should focus on the acting and do the music thingy on the side.

  92. casualfan Says:

    http://www.americanaroots.com/radio-stations/

Here’s a nice link with interesting information about this type of music. Even though AR music was originally pinned as being a fusion of blues, jazz, native American, folk-in recent years Musicians such as Rascal Flatts, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Bruce Hornsby among others have joined the ranks of this rapidly growing genre.

The blues is dying and a lot of blues musicians are now turning to AR as a way to help save what’s left of the Blues and to continue having their voices heard.

SMB would have fit well with the AR stations verses country-IMO.

    =============================================

Adam Lambert has said the exact same thing about the type of music he wants to put on his first album. Maybe Taylor is plowing the way for everyone else. LOL (They won’t give him the credit for it though.)

  94. NolaMar Says:

OK, I see CF says it’s been happening for a while. Forget what I just said…. 😉

  95. NolaMar Says:

SS, do you mean media footage or fan stuff? I’m sure the fan stuff is coming. Some of them are not even home yet, or if they are they have to process the data and get it posted.

  96. Snowstorm Says:

CF, those artists that you listed are all established and highly respected, therefore, they can take risks with their music – they all have very large fanbases and are legends in the music business. Taylor Hicks is not in that position. He has had no hit songs on the Billboard charts. I have never heard his voice on my local radio stations. My AC station never even played DIMYP. Taylor is not in that postion, where he can take any risks.

  97. NolaMar Says:

There are now three videos on Vimeo. Have not watched them yet. Have to run out.

  98. NolaMar Says:

OT – AI is smart – they are selling a “Season Pass” for Kris Allen. Pre-selling his new cd before it ever comes out. I’m sure many people will order it now when it’s all fresh, who might not later after the excitement of the finale wears off…

I also noticed that his hair is now almost completely white. Three years ago, he still has lots of pepper in it.

    ————————————————————————————

Maybe because it is Friday afternoon and I’m winding down, this strikes me as very funny! I mean WTF? How does one’s brain process this? What does this mean? An argument for or against genetics? Stress? Allergies to hair dye?? I love a good debate but I’m lost here.

  100. Snowstorm Says:

Taylor is starting to look older than my grandfather. Not even my grandfather has hair that white!

Taylor has a very serious image problem!

  101. He looks pretty damn good to me

  102. Snowstorm Says:

Taylor needs to do something about that hair of his. The least he can do, is add more dark to it. Three years ago, the salt and pepper look is attractive, but all white/gray is NOT. Sorry, but he’s not attracting anybody but grandmothers and it won’t be long till music career is dead!

  103. Poke Salad Annie Says:

Snow, have you ever seen Taylor in person standing not 2 feet from you? I have , and I can tell you he DOES NOT look old…..I was shocked at how young he looks, even with the silver hair. No one commented on the Ray Lamontagne video posted by AH. There’s your answer to airplay…when Taylor puts out a CD with songs like “Trouble” on it the dj’s will play it. His performance of that song on AI was his best. Not good enough..No. Maybe he should have Ray L. write some songs for him.

  104. mamaforpeace Says:

Snow, respectfully, this is such a shallow comment! And as far as sounding too old fashioned, retro, whatever, just take a look at the video of SMBD posted in the next thread. It is great in every way, and it was a high to see him perform it. I wonder if your grandfather could do that!

  105. I just checked my Facebk and there was the same notice from Taylor’s “people” on it……funny.

  106. Why can’t Taylor sing more contemporary songs from this decade or last decade? He’s always singing songs from 30-40 years ago! No wonder the general public doesn’t like him!

Snow, you’re free to be as empty a receptacle for music industry marketing as you please. God knows. But I swear statements like the above make me shake my head.

Why does someone with such superficial feeling for the art of music-making bother spending so much time on it? I have my theories (having do do with the attention that friction draws, and so forth). But God. You say the most shockingly shallow things at times. You really do.

  107. Responding to Snow is just pushing her yes her to make more out-there comments. I try to ignore negativity and unfounded statements. Tay should be himself and not change who he is to fit some phony mold that can just be slapped on a lunch box and sold to the masses…integrity has to play a role at some point. Seems to me with Grease, and the shadow tour Tay and his gray are taking his “image problem” all the way to the bank.

  108. PurpleButterflies Says:

Hi everyone. I’ll just paste what I put on tosp about the note. Please spread the word around so people know how much to request.

“The note is real. It’s nothing to get upset over. There were no ill intentions and it was not meant to anger or upset anyone. It was simply a guideline for requesting the song. Just request the song twice a week. That’s what is wanted, so we’ll all do that with a smile on our face and joy in our heart. lol “

  109. PurpleButterflies Says:

    —————–
Britain’s Got Talent already has Susan Boyle’s CD on preorder and she didn’t even win the competition yet. I love her by the way.

  110. Pissed off—or pissed on? Being pissed off is way better, so don’t piss on fellow blogger Snow. My goodness, she made a comment about his hair color. What in the hay is the problem, given so many of you and me color our hair for one reason or another. Hair color does not affect Hicks voice. She just gave her opinion.

  111. “Responding to Snow is just pushing her yes her to make more out-there comments.

I don’t care if she does. I’m hardly a card-carrying member of the Positive Police myself. I don’t object to her negativity. I just hate reading the endless propaganda. “CONFORM to the formula!. Discard everything you thought was of value. WE will tell you what has value, and it’s what we can SELL you! Revere nothing! …except THIS new thing…for only $29.95. Buy NOW, and buy PLENTY OF IT. TRANSFER your wealth to ME! And tomorrow, I’ll have A DIFFERENT THING!”

Art is art. You hardly discard a Caravaggio because it’s “old.” But apparently Snow would, for there’s newer, hipper stuff at Ikea, or something.

    Tay should ….

Please for the love of God stop saying “Tay”.

Just kidding. No really I mean it. But you know, that’s me. You’re you. Say what you want. But PLEASE stop.

  112. Hi PurpleB, What do you know that I do not know? Please explain your post. Do you know that most who post on this blog, as in the majority do not request online, via email, or calls to radio stations any Taylor songs? Twice a week with a smile on our face, sounds like a late 1960’s Twilight Zone episode. Did Taylor, A2M, his manager no one knows he has, or his personal agent at CAA contact you and state they know the # of pro active fans he has, and that the ideal # of calls, emails and online medibase requests, per fan, should work and put a smile on his face and his fans? I am both nice and pro active in supporting Taylor. Don’t know who you are, PB, but your post above makes me weary. I believe from experience I know a bit more than you about celebs and the whole nine yards of show business.

  113. PurpleButterflies Says:

God help me. I feel a headache coming on. lol

  114. PurpleButterflies Says:

Okay, let’s try this again. Hello Rosie, I am very pleased to make your aquaintance. My name is Jean. I mostly post on TOSP. You can find the thread on TOSP where there was question about the note. Maybe it will be clearer if you read the thread in context. I just pasted what I wrote so I didn’t have to type it again. There was question if the note was real, so I said I would ask. The “joy in your heart” was my way of putting a bit of humor because some people seemed upset about the note. I can assure you that I did not make up the twice a week requesting. I asked. You can learn more about the things I have done in Taylor Land by reading the troop drive page. http://www.jewelrysprout.com/taylor-hicks-cd-drive.html To clarify, Taylor doesn’t have an “personal agent at CAA.” His management is Creative Artist Management. (CAM)

  115. I believe from experience I know a bit more than you about celebs and the whole nine yards of show business.

Pardon my ignorance but I don’t know who any of you are or what you do for a living . . so the “mine’s bigger than yours” argument falls a bit flat. I often get the feeling that reactions to some posts are more about personal baggage than anything else. I don’t have any personal history with any of you – beyond the GrayCharles alumni connection anyway – so here’s my take . . . PB gave a reasonable explanation for her post . . and the request to not contact the Same radio station more than a couple times a week also seems reasonable. Point – PB.

  116. Snowstorm Says:

Hello True! Taylor’s formula for success has failed! The public considers him a joke. Do you deny this? So, what does one do when they have failed? They try to reinvent themselves. Taylor is going in the right direction by going country, but he still clinges to that OLD shit he does, which has FAILED miserably! Selling only 30,000 cd’s after selling 700,000, only shows how far he has fallen. A lot of that 30,000 cd’s are multiple purchases. His hardcore fans bought all three versions, so he has even less fans than that.

  117. Snowstorm Says:

    “Art is art.”

Bwahahahahahahahahaha! There’s lots of shitty art out there, sweetie!

  118. mamaforpeace Says:

Yes, and apparantly, you’d be willing to buy it if it’s what’s popular at the moment! I believe True’s point what that an old song, like an old painting, doesn’t lose it’s beauty just because it’s old. There are also a lot of shitty new songs that are very popular today. Doesn’t make them good!

  119. Snowstorm Says:

mamaforpeace, the majority rules in America! People are NOT buying Taylor’s music. What other evidence do you need, other than they don’t like it! Taylor’s music is niche market! That means that a very small market likes it. The sooner you accept this, the happier you will be. The tiny soul patrol is not going to change anybodies mind.
Now, if Taylor goes country music, obviously that market is huge and he has a better chance of success. But, doing old crap like, “My Sweet Lord” is a formula for failure!

  120. Snowstorm Says:

mamaforpeace, you also need to remember the music is entirely subjective. But, if something is NOT selling, people are not digging it.

  121. Hello True! Taylor’s formula for success has failed! The public considers him a joke. Do you deny this?

To tell you the truth, I’m a) not paying attention, and b) so far past giving a damn. My interest in Taylor shriveled up a long time ago (though obviously I cannot seem to quit the habit of this community).

Your interest in him is clearly alive and breathing. Throbbing, even. No objection there. But I find you to be oblivious to the subject matter – which is (usually) music. Instead, you’re the poster child for pop-culture victims. It’s never about quality with you – whether it’s Taylor or anyone else. It’s just about how much of it can be SOLD. That IS the measure of quality, for you. Stats, profit, image, marketing. Your topic is “business” rather than “music.”

And you think YOU’RE the one who’s really got your finger on the pulse of things.

That said, you’re obviously perfectly entitled to care about whatever you care about. And in some contexts, your bluntness is hilarious. But your condescension is so without foundation.

  122. The gray hair is part of Taylor’s ‘brand,’ as is the harmonica. He can’t change it or the masses will call him a sell-out.

Here’s what I don’t get. snow says Taylor needs to record more contemporary music but she also has said that the TH CD was too pop-ish. Pick a side.

New artists record old music all the time. Counting Crows were on the radio with Joni Mitchell’s ‘Big Yellow Taxi,’ Seether (SEETHER!) is on the raido right now with a cover of “Careless whisper,” etc, etc, etc. That’s just off the top of my head. i’m sure our music afficiandos here could come up with newer artists singing older songs.

  123. PurpleB, Hi nice to meet you. I haven’t read or posted on TOSP. Sorry for my rant as I was frustrated when I posted. I thought the message from his so called management was deleted after an hour or so as I happened to be on his myspace and alerted some elsewhere about the post. My frustration is with fans believing it was a legit request and then abiding by the 2 times a week requesting when he needs all the help he can get. Less than 12 hrs before Tay asked fans to request 7MB. So I’m going to follow what the man said in person. It’s all good.

  124. PurpleButterflies Says:

Rosie-The note was legit. It came from management. It was removed but what was said still stands. Taylor has a radio promotion company and they want the song requested two times a week.

  125. Purple, it is me again. I just re read your original post and am even more confused. Did someone from Cam contact you or did you contact them regarding the 2x’s a week message? Your post states you were letting people on TOSP know it was a legit message. Why was it deleted so quickly and didn’t it just refer to phone calls and emails? Last night I was assuming you were just a random fan stating you thought it was a real message and folks should only request 2 times a week. Since he has sold only 30 some thousand CDs and not many fans are on the boards and blogs and many who are, don’t request, I can’t fathom an overload of requests. Did someone estimate there would be 1000 Hicks fans making requests and therefore 2000 requests a week would do the trick? I’m telling you it sounds nutty to me but whatever!

  126. PB, Just read your 3:04. I think some do not think it was legit given comments I’ve read elsewhere. Perhaps it should have stayed posted on his official sites.

  127. PurpleButterflies Says:

Rosie-I understand that you and others have questions and may be confused by the twice a week requesting that was stated in the note. But it is not my place to answer the whys. I simply let everyone know out of courtesy that the note was legit. Anything else is not my place to discuss, nor am I comfortable discussing it. I hope you can understand.

  128. rosie . . realize you don’t know me from a hole in the ground either . . but leaving PB and the legit / not legit question out of it . . .
I advertise with radio stations – 3 Citadel properties and 2 owner operated – and have had the request conversation in the past with a couple of the DJs I know as well as management level people. According to them most stations track email addys and phone numbers . . if they feel they are getting “spammed” by anyone they simply trash ALL future input coming from that source. Obviously it’s left up to each person to do what they think is reasonable . . but the request made sense.

  129. Snowstorm Says:

True, music is a business just like anything else. If something is not selling, that means trouble for the artist. I get it that you’re all about the art, but that’s not realistic in today’s world.

Taylor knows this and that’s the reason he’s turned to acting. Katherine McPhee did the same thing, turned to acting… her music didn’t fly either.

  130. Snowstorm Says:

True, oh, and another thing… if you truly do not give a damn, you wouldn’t have bothered posting. So, you do care, sweets!

  131. mamaforpeace Says:

“The sooner you accept this, the happier you will be. The tiny soul patrol is not going to change anybodies mind.”
Snow, I don’t consider myself to be part of the soul patrol. And I am pretty happy right now:) I don’t fret about numbers, sales, etc… I did get to see Taylor twice in a month at small venues, which I much prefer. So, selfishly, yes I am happy! I have no doubt that he will keep on making music, both live and recorded. Maybe Mr. Hicks and some of his fans want more than that, maybe it will happen… or not. In any case, it will be good enough for ME.

  132. “I get it that you’re all about the art, but that’s not realistic in today’s world.”

*chuckle* Whatever blows your skirt up, Snow.

  133. True, music is a business just like anything else.

Yeah, so is organ donation, if you want it to be.

Look, you’re not wrong about the need to sell if you want to make a living at something. What you’re wrong about, and I would say you just don’t care about – is quality. You think that that big sales = quality, and that small sales numbers = lack of quality. That is the thinking of a pop-culture victin.

Taylor’s music lacks quality, but the low sales have nothing to do with that. Americans buy billions of dollars worth of pure crap day in and day out. It’s no indicator of quality.

  134. I’m not arguing with you, True, but I have to respectfully disagree when you say that “Taylor’s music lacks quality.” Good music makes you feel something, don’t you think? Some of Taylor’s music moves me even when I don’t want it to. Gah! I don’t feel like explaining, I’m too tired. But the fact remains that his music is as good or better than a lot of stuff out there that’s making other people rich.

  135. I’m not arguing with you, True, but I have to respectfully disagree when you say that “Taylor’s music lacks quality.

Oh, certainly! I can only speak about my own personal evaluation. Everyone else will have one, too.

But the fact remains that his music is as good or better than a lot of stuff out there that’s making other people rich.

Hey…how come mine’s an opinion and yours is a “fact?” Heh. Just kidding.

  136. casualfan Says:

Good Lord! What a thread! LOL!

  137. You got me there, True! since music is subjective, my statement is just an opinion. My bad.

  138. PurpleButterflies Says:

Pardon me for the intrusion, but if I had Rosie’s email address, I would take it up with her in private. Rosie, someone sent me a link to that hate blog-the girlfriend one where they bash the fans. It seems as though you are having some sort of problem with what I posted here about the note being legit. It is rather puzzling because I saw a comment here where you stated that the sisters are liars and you really had a vent going there about them. Yet you’re there with them dissing me. Just a smidge confusing. It’s reasons like this that a lot of the fans have walked away. It’s also reasons like this that no one wants to help clear up confusion. I saw it happen with Caryl too. What people said to her was wrong. She was only trying to relay a message. Next time people won’t bother helping. At any rate, if you do have a problem with me, my email address is jewelrysprout@aol.com I will be happy to discuss anything that is on your mind.

  139. Purple. I didn’t know who you were, I haven’t been around too long and I don’t know who has a history with whom, excepts for a few people. I merely reported what you and I were talking about the other night. I’m not the one dissing you on Chill’s blog nor am I responding to Chill, Henry, Cbb, Jeanni or whoever else is doing so. I mentioned over there that I had acted like an ass with you the other night. Henry has been active doing the medibase thing, posting links etc. I just reported you said it was legit and repeated my twilight zone thing. I wrote earlier today I did not mean to start a big thing. Since I did not know who you were I did not know some there had a history with you or it would turn out like it has.

  140. casualfan Says:

Some people will never get it PBF…water off a ducks back sweetie 😉

  141. casualfan Says:

PBF-You did nothing wrong and it’s appreciated that you helped to clarify things.

  142. That whole exchange above is exactly what is wrong with this fanbase. People taking offense, taking sides, baiting and bad-mouthing other women whom they don’t know a thing about. I’m not taking about this blog, but over on “Chill’s” site. It’s ridiculous that there’s so much bashing going on over there about ONE sentence I wrote on this blog.

So, I stated that maybe Mr. Hicks may not be talented enough for radio…. so what?!? Does it ruin their lives? Harm their lifestyle? Hurt the economy? Damage the environment? No, of course not. But b/c of posting my opinion, I’m being denigrated over there, mocked and my character assasinated by people who know NOTHING about me. I could bake for all the funerals at my church, volunteer my time for a multitude of charitable functions, and try and better my corner of the world in my own humble way, but none of that matters b/c I spoke honestly of how I feel about Taylor Hicks.

It’s just so, so pointless and ridiculous. THIS is the very reason the “Soul Patrol” wins the crazy award.

Sorry to post this here, Grey. You can delete if you want. I just needed to unload. Whew.

  143. Snowstorm Says:

YKW, Taylor doesn’t get radio airplay because of the type of music he does… has nothing to do with being talented enough. Also, the fact that he got dropped and has no big label support. The labels spend millions of $$ on promotion.. obviously Taylor doesn’t have that luxury. The labels and radio work hand-in-hand.. that’s a well known fact. Requesting has little/no effect when it comes to airplay.

  144. PurpleButterflies Says:

Thank you for your kind words, casualfan. I expected that group on the bashing blog to act the way they did. A lot of people told me that between helping to clarify that the note was legit, and Taylor putting the troop drive banner on his Myspace page, that the blog in question would start in with the bashing. A lot of people knew it would happen and out of protection for my feelings asked me if helping was worth it. I think it is worth it because a lot of people appreciate the help. There are lots of awesome Taylor fans in sp land. Taylor told me to ignore those bashers. His lawyer told me to ignore them. I just want to see the CD’s sold and the troops gifted with good music, so I guess ignoring them is best.

  145. casualfan Says:

You are most welcome PBF-That banner would NOT be on his Myspace page if what you did wasn’t supported by him, his management and everyone else whose opinion does matter. Taylor is right…ignore the bs and continue on. 😉

  146. Taylor needs to go and perform for the troops. I’m sure he’s already thought about it.

  147. casualfan Says:

That would be a treat for them caryl-his high spirited show is what they could use right now.

  148. PBF’s, don’t know what I can say to you now except I really do feel like shit. I did not do the email thing because I like to discuss things openly. So sorry that my bringing our converstion to another site ended up with the comments and bashing. It was not my intention.

  149. casualfan Says:

We all make mistakes rosie. The best thing that anyone can do is to learn from those mistakes and move on to better things. The problem lies with the people who continue on with the jealousy and hate and not with PBF or anyone else subject to the continuing innuendos and speculations. Besides, except for the few misguided posters, no one really gives a damn. 😉

  150. What is up with these stupid fan on fan wars???? I went over and read the girlfriend site earlier today. The bitterness was out of control mean. The part that confuses me is that it’s IMPOSSIBLE that the radio post was done by trolls (LOL) since it was on every single site. And since the request was made why would his “die hard fans” such as the selfproclaimed ones on that insane girlfriend blog blatantly ignore the request when they are so concerned with Taylor’s best interest? Taylor said request my music. He didn’t say request my music to a point where it’s annoying. Sorry, I don’t find it hard to believe that many of Taylor’s fans take it too far. Ever read the posts on a controversial article about him? These people go crazy and make fools of themselves each and every time. Seems if they don’t like what they hear (even when it comes from Taylor’s management which speaking for Taylor) its easier to blame an alleged troll so they can do what they want. And ya know, he doesn’t even know who the hell any of them are and I don’t think even his parents or friends or wife would care as much as these lunatics about what’s being said about him. Something’s wrong up there. That’s all I got.

  151. My Grandma always said:
“You can shit on me, but you don’t have to rub it in!”
Wise words from a lady that lived to be 100! (July 7, 1900-Dec.2000)
(The name of this thread made me think of her, she died in 2000, just 5 months after her 100th birthday)

  152. PurpleButterflies Says:

Rosie-Apology accepted. Don’t worry about it. I knew it would happen. This is why management took the note down in the first place. People got hostile. I felt bad and tried to help. It’s just a little group on a bashing blog. They don’t represent Taylor’s fans as a whole. Really, it’s okay. Don’t feel badly about it.

Some people I know have met two of them, and suffice to say, alcohol does impair one’s thought process.
