Prediction: and i’m going out on a limb here.

Sales will SHOOT THROUGH THE ROOF

    (on this item)

  2. I don’t even really know what to say.

The SP guitar strap? Ok, don’t wear it on AI where millions of people watched you, but make sure you wear it in a video, where it can be seen fucking forever.

  3. jerseyirish Says:

Thought it was really good, didn’t look uncomfortable to me, looked like he was having a good time with it all!!! 🙂

    charcoal, hahaha111 🙂

    JI

  4. Snowstorm Says:

Burn that fucking SP strap! IDIOT!

  5. NICE CAR!
He can’t turn his back completely on the SP…….ought to know that! All them hormonal women pissed at you ……. eek terrible thought!
I wish they would have told me about the morning shoot, I would’ve worn other panties besides my pink ones to bed! How embarrassing!
I actually thought the viceo would be “grittier”……..dusty backroads, like an old coke commercial sort of thing……..but I liked it.

  6. Sweetay Says:

I loved the SP strap!I think it showed a cocky.. screw you if you don’t like me…I am who I am!!

Silent shout out to his first fans and there is nothing wrong with adding SP to country. Loved it!

  7. Snowstorm Says:

If the guy had any balls, he would turn his back at the SP. They have been nothing but a curse for him. But, hey it’s all about the money for him and he will continue to milk soul patrol for all it’s worth (but, it ain’t worth SHIT!)

The video was rather dull and ordinary. I loved how he put the hot babes in the video, like that is his real audience… yeah right, hahaha! The women in her panties.. kinda stupid, but that will piss off the “church ladies”!!

Sorry, but I would rate this video a 4 out of 10.

  8. I’m distracted because I look just like the girl from the…eh…who am I kidding?

I thought that was kinda cute the way he checked her out as he drove by. Though in real life he probably would have stopped. And asked for directions to the nearest bar-b-q place. haha

    I liked it.

(I don’t care how much you make fun of us, charcoal, the SP guitar strap is puzzling. He shot the video on Monday, so I guess by Wednesday he decided to drop the whole SP thing. He obviously did. AI would be THE place to shout it out if he wanted to keep it going.)

  9. Snowstorm Says:

    Also…

Because of the soul patrol guitar strap, CMT will NEVER play that video. You’ll see, I’m right about that!

  10. Sweetay Says:

Shouting out SP and doing the lean is a lot different then merely wearing a cool looking strap that shows his fans he hasn’t forgotten them or left his soul behind to go country. I think Taylor handled it perfectly!

  11. JumpedtheShark Says:

OK, I LOVED IT!! Yeah the Soul Patrol strap could have been NOT, but all in all, great song, great video. It will be a shame if this song is not played on country stations. I mean, surely the ENTIRE state of Mississippi will buy it right??? LOL

  12. Snowstorm Says:

You fans are delusional…as usual, HAHAHA!

  13. JumpedtheShark Says:

I’m going out on a limb here and disagreeing with Snow.

I’m so sick of this country music is about my double wide and hound dog and lost love and crying in beer and blah blah blah. I live outside of Nashville and that is NOT country music. Sorry guys, but SMB is country in Nashville. Whether they play the song or not is up to me. It will be a shame if they don’t, but I just don’t know. *shakes head*

  14. I need that on a T-shirt:
    Delusional….As Usual!!
    Thumbs up!

  15. casualfan Says:

I’m not a fan of the SP either, but I kind of think wearing the SP strap in the video was kind of cool. Everyone should know by now that Taylor can be a cocky SOB at times. LOVE IT!

  16. That’s snow’s word for today…

  17. Snowstorm Says:
You fans are delusional…as usual, HAHAHA

    Join us! It’s fun!!

  18. jerseyirish Says:

I thought using that strap was cool also. He uses it alot anyway, why not for the video.

    JI

  19. I’ve watched it again. I might be over analyzing, but I just don’t get it. You see the girl..and she’s getting ready to….go sit in a field and listen to Taylor pretend to play the guitar?

I didn’t like the angles it was shot at, and at one point I thought it was going to make me have a seizure.

Nothing like securing your fate with a SP guitar strap.

  20. casualfan Says:

That strap was given to him by a fan, so I can understand the attachement.

Just watched the video-thanks Grey! Sorry, but as much as I love the song I don’t find the video does the song justice. Sub-standard marketing…a concept that Mr. Hicks seems content settling with-I don’t get it.

  21. Snowstorm Says:

    NO, NO, NO, Caryl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do you think so many people have disappeared and are not coming back, ever? Unless Taylor has a hit song, he is stuck with his small fanbase.

The way some of you talk – you make NO sense at all!

  22. Since when has Taylor ever been attached to his fans? Aside from AI, when he used them for the vote (which I totally don’t blame him for).

He’s too busy charging for meet and greets and sucking money out of them for a basically nonexistent fan club website.

No offense to you, CF. I just find it kind of a strange move when he has obviously been distancing himself away from the moniker.

  23. Snowstorm Says:

What a shame! Great song, but shitty video!

  24. Well not bad. I do think the girl should have jumped in the car with him at the mail box. Come on she is dancing around to his cd and he drives up and she has no reaction? No Way!! Over all not bad.

As for the SP strap, who cares? Come on it is a silent shout out to his fans. Ya know the counrty folk like that kind of thing.

Hope this goes well for Taylor, we’ll just have to wait and see.

  25. That’s half the trouble with the “Taylor world”………….it doesn’t exist.
Some fans think it does, but there is only this very real world that our asses are sitting in.
    There is no “Taylorize”
There is only good music and he’d better start making some real good music.
Example: I Live on a Battlefield………..great song (Hall & Oatsish) but then a few bars later there is a completely DORKY bass run…..WHY?

  26. This is so different than I expected but I love it. Here is my interpertation of it. Taylor knows it is hard for him Mr. Sould Patrol to break into country. The DJ,s and country fans almost seem like a clique. But in this video he is acknowledgeing all of that, by having to perform in an open field with a small audience because he is new to country. The outfit was good also, not fake. There was no cowboy hat, no pick up truck, he kept it all real down to the guitar strap. Country fans and small town people believe in keeping it real and he is in this video. I give it an A+. He did not in this video shove himself down country fans throats.

  27. snow wrote: “I loved how he put the hot babes in the video, like that is his real audience… yeah right, hahaha!”

You want he should show an actual fan getting ready for the show? (for some reason, in my head, I said that with an old Jewish man accent. Try it. It’s funny.)

  28. Rosie, can I look through your glasses awhile?

No, seriously, I wish I could have that attitude with Taylor.

  29. Rosie, I love ya, but I don’t think it’s that deep. Now I have to stop screwing around and get something done.

  30. casualfan Says:

No offense taken IAG-but only Taylor can answer the question of why he used it and frankly that strap is the least of his problems.

I agree with Snow on this one….shitty video wasted on a great song.

  31. Not going to comment on the video itself yet. Want to watch it a couple of more times. Just thinking about how DIFFERENT it is than what I was expecting.

I don’t have a problem with the SP strap. But again I have not been a part of that whole thing for the past 3 years, nor do I dislike it like some of you do. I have to wholeheartedly agree that there are some delusional people in it. (I’m not one, though Snow accused me of it in the previous blog entry and some people here today.) I don’t see him ever turning his back on the fans that put him through to the top on Idol, and have stood by him all this time. But dropping the SP shout out and not wearing the strap on AI was good…

The video does not have that much of a country vibe to me. I guess he’s not trying to fool anyone by pretending to be a pure country artist. He’s produced a few country songs, but he’s not trying to turn himself into Garth Brooks or anything like that. And wearing the SP strap could be part of that too. I would have hated it if he had tried to look like a cowboy.

Very funny charcoal, about the pink panties! Also funny how quickly you focused in on that and found them online. 😉 So I guess T does not want to sell using his own sex appeal, but a hot babe in pink panties is OK. LOL

Loved those pictures they used in the pop-eaters article, and the article itself was pretty good to him.

  32. Oh raj, don’t listen to Snow. She calls everybody delusional all the time.

    Eh.

  33. casualfan Says:

But I do LOVE that shirt he’s wearing! He’s hot!

  34. Snowstorm Says:

caryl, that video is so contrived! I hate that shit! But, what really did me in was the SP strap. I just can’t get past it and neither will anybody else in the real world.

  35. I hope some of you try to see it from my view point. Less can sometimes be more. He was keeping it real. He was just being the well known AI5 winner who called his fans the SOUL PATROl and who now is singing a swinging country song about the fields and Delta of old Miss. The sex angle was good and not overdone, just young pretty women getting ready to go hear TH sing in a field. SS he is ballsy, he is not sucking up to the SP, just acknowledging what country fans already know, where he is coming from.

  36. Sweetay Says:

I just phoned some people in the “real” world. I have a lot of family and friends who are country fans.. but not Taylor Hicks fans. They know how I feel about him and did like to tease me .. lately they just roll their eyes.

Everyone of them liked the song and the video. They said he sound good country and the stations will probably get a lot of request. Only one person even noticed the strap, but it was an incidental observation.

Snow.. You are delusional. You are making way too much out of it!

  37. casualfan Says:

I think the chick should have jumped into the car with him. At first I thought she was getting ready for him and he was coming home to her.

I wish Mr. Hicks luck with this one.

  38. Sweetay, the question is are those “real” people going to buy any of his music? Bet not…so it really doesn’t matter if they like it or not, ya know?

  39. Glad to see Raj agrees with some of my viewpoint. Some of you should be more open minded about this. What did you expect and what would you have done differently. Well I’m off to check what others are saying. Guess I’ll check what the boogiers are thinking.

  40. snow, I actually do find it a little annoying that the video devotes so much time to some nymphet getting dressed. What does that have to do with anything? But so much of this stuff (cover art, what Taylor wears, the images in his videos) is based in psychology. The sublimnal message.

A half naked girl catches the eye and holds your attention. That’s major. If you were watching this on TV maybe you wouldn’t change the channel. And obviously including young people in the video gives Taylor a youthful vibe.

    Etc…I really have to go!

  41. Rosie, I bet I can already tell you what the Boogiers are saying.

  42. casualfan Says:

    LOL!

  43. The whole thing with the blond in panties is a cheap sell. After that you don’t need to do anything artistic, because you have a blond in pink panties, crawling across the bed with an ass shot.

    Sex sells. Just not Taylor’s.

No, this isn’t what I expected. How about a couple on the side of the highway? Taylor and the band driving down. They stop, try to help, but Taylor ends up taking the girl and leaving. But that won’t happen. Because Taylor will never allow that. Too bad Taylor won’t sell his sex appeal, because I think that kind of video would go over better. But what do we see of his sex appeal? We see him sneer at the panty girl as he drives by her. Um, ok.

  44. Sweetay Says:

grey If Taylor goes country they will buy. As it is Taylor is a hick in pop. In country Taylor could be cool.

But I doubt if they will buy a CD that’s all over the place. Sure most of Taylor’s tunes could have been country. The lyrics are pretty corny for pop, and the vocals are definitely country.

IMO Taylor has spent a great deal of time trying to impersonate his own Idols. Ray Charles, and such. But when he just relaxes and lets it go.. its all country rock and Soul.

  45. charcoal Says:

I don’t think he was using sex to sell anything . . .

  46. charcoal Says:

    Except, you know, AMERICAN APPAREL

DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH AMERICA?

See, it’s a “country music” thing. These pink panty colors don’t run etc.

  47. Typical male perspective, charcoal.

  48. Of course you don’t want those pink panties to run. You want them to stay close to you. 😆

  49. casualfan Says:

We see him sneer at the panty girl as he drives by her. Um, ok.
    ====================================
ROFLMAO! If that would have been Bill standing there in his pink panties that vet would have come to a screeching haut.

  50. AHAHHAAA CF!!

  51. Snowstorm Says:

By wearing the soul patrol strap, he’s keeping the “soul” alive. The country music purists will look down on that. That video will NOT be shown on TV. I also think the song is going to get minimal radio airplay.

Taylor blew it, folks. The video is completely stupid.. showing hot chicks getting dressed?? What??? He sees a hot chick and doesn’t stop!! WTF???

So many cool directions he could have taken it, but noooooo! He sticks with stupid cliches!

  52. Sweetay Says:

I think Taylor has a better chance being heard in country music with this than if he would have made a flashy “look at me” video.

Just a simple country boy living a free life. (with a few regrets)
Maybe wishing he could settle down, but the road is calling him on. Both winning and breaking hearts as he goes.

I don’t see it has he did not get the girl. Hell yes he did… and then he took it on down the road.

  53. casualfan Says:

Taylor blew it, folks. The video is completely stupid.. showing hot chicks getting dressed?? What??? He sees a hot chick and doesn’t stop!! WTF???
    =========================================
    ROFLMAO!

  54. Sweetay Says:

!!!!!!!!! The sky is falling !!!!!!!!!!!

    *doin my best Snow impression*

  55. casualfan Says:

Seriously, Taylor should have been going home with the hot pantie chick. They both could have been riding in that hot car on a dusty road into the sunset AFTER a gig. That way the focus would have been on Taylor and the PRIZE would have been saved for last.

  56. Snowstorm Says:

The sky is falling for Taylor Hicks, not me, hon!

  57. taylorfan06 Says:

Not what I had envisioned for this GREAT SONG!

I would have liked to have seen a simple video with just the band jamming out in the flat lands. We all have our opinions, but I hope this finished product puts Taylor where he SHOULD be. I do see definite airplay for this song.

But I still think the end is too abrupt from the original.

All the best to the very deserving Taylor R. Hicks!

  58. I think there should have been some reaction from Taylor when the three girls showed up at his gig, right? He should have been like, “Oh, there’s that hot chick from the mailbox. I wonder if she’s clean?” You know, cuz WE know she took a bath. We woulda been all, “Yes, she IS clean, Taylor, c’mon, go smell her!” And he woulda been like, “I don’t know, her girlfriends are keeping their distance” and we would have been all, “NO, no, really! She took a bath!! Clean undies and everything!!”

    Now THAT’S suspense, folks.

  59. AHAHAAH Caryl!!!

You girls are making me laugh today!

  60. I have a prediction of my own. I’m going to get yelled at by my husband because I’m accomplishing nothing today.

  61. casualfan Says:

Check this out: Video starts with a close-up of the guitar..Taylor up on stage in a roadside honky tonk-his last gig in MS. During the song, it flashes back with him in the car driving down the road to the gigs and thinking about panty chick crawling across the sheets (not too much, just a little taste) Goes back to the stage where he’s singing, pans out into the bar-people trying to size him up (hence MS being kind to him). Towards the end of the song, maybe panty girl walks in and stands near the exit because she’s been traveling with him. After the song is over T and PG hop into the car and drive off into the sunset with dust behind them.

Cliche’ maybe-but it has it all the components.

  62. Sweetay Says:

The video is a done deal. Its really OK. Actually its really good.

Some of you want to see Taylor hit the country music video scene in a blaze of hot ass fire! But I’m telling you… the country folks would go for their hoses if he tried that! They are not looking for Taylor to come in and start taking over.

  63. All bow before me for I am Pantie Girl!

  64. Sweetay, I’m not sure that they’re looking for Taylor, period.

  65. Barb, is that anything like Beach Girl? 😆

  66. Snowstorm Says:

Anything would have been better than that crap! But, I’m thinking there was probably a very small budget for this video.

How about showing what the song is about? Traveling with his band on the dusty roads with a beat-up van, playing honky-tonks, etc. People in the honky-tonks having a good time…dancing, drinking…fun!!

  67. Uh oh!
The still shot on the video is NOT GOOD!
Looks like he’s doing the “loser” sign on his forehead, and not pointing!
    ooooops.
    Bad mojo!
and sad to say, I wish I was Pantie Girl……mine are the granny type!

  68. Sweetay Says:

Grey Of course they aren’t looking for him. There is no welcome mat out.

Given the position Taylor is in, I think it was wise that he politely and in a very cool manner knocked on the door.. rather than trying to burn their house down.

We may think Taylor is all that, but most of them could care less. He just needs to get his foot in the door to have a chance. I think this video and this song will do it.

No I do not think that Hicks is going to be an overnight country success. I do not think his career will skyrocket as Randy said. But I do think that maybe, just maybe he might have one.

  69. blueberry Says:

As Jon Stewart says,”Settle down, settle down.” It’s just a video,a soul patrol guitar strap, a cute girl in pink panties (five words I never thought I would string together!), more cute girls listening to him “play” in a field. I thought we (whoever we are, I don’t know) wanted younger etc. Stupid it might be Snow, but I think to a lot of guys hot chicks getting dressed is, well, hot. This guy is never, ever going to please everyone.
And what does the reference to Bill means?

  70. I don’t think Taylor will hit country in a hot blaze, but a slow burn may be nice!
All he wants to do is work, anyway……….so far, so good
    🙂

  71. Negative people at least give props that at least we could see him unlike the light out WRIR video. I don’t understand the BB people, and yes they like almost everything Taylor, but fail to critique or think rationally. Ok, some of them do spin things. The video if it gets to CMT will have a positive impact just for being there in rotation. That is how I got to hear Buckys first song. I think this song will get more radio play than WRIR because it is a much better song. Man he deserves a break… but I don’t know if he will get one. Yes, SS I know winning AI5 was his big break and it was blown.

  72. Just checking in here to see what everyone has been saying.

Oddly enough… I actually liked it. The reason that I say “oddly enough” is that I have been in sort of an anti-Taylor mood lately. I finally did get to see his Idol performance, and I was frankly NOT impressed at all. I thought his voice sounded strained.

However, listening to this video, I was finally reminded of what it was about Taylor that originally attracted him to me. I guess I detected that certain something that he has in his voice that makes him just slightly different than other singers. It was good to see Taylor back to being the Taylor that I knew and loved.

The video itself may not be a total “10”, but I think that it does give him back some of the credibility that he has been lacking. I have a feeling that this song and video will open some doors for him and if this happens then maybe Taylor will finally be able to make the music that he really wants to make.

  73. Yeah I also agree with Sweetay! Now I’m shutting up.

  74. The problem with that, willpen, is that Taylor is out there saying that this is the music he wants to make.

    *fear*

  75. Grey,

At this point, whatever works for him is better than where he has been.

I also think that this song falls right between country and a little bit of Southern Rock, enough for him to go in either direction. At least watching it did not make me cringe.

  76. Sweetay Says:

Snows says…How about showing what the song is about? Traveling with his band on the dusty roads with a beat-up van, playing honky-tonks, etc. People in the honky-tonks having a good time…dancing, drinking…fun!!

    …………………………………..

How do you know that’s what the song is about. Maybe its about one lonely country dude finding someone to care about him and his music. Going for town to town.. “takin it to the fields”.

He tried “takin to the streets” and that didn’t work.

  77. Oh don’t get me wrong, Willpen, I love this song. It’s really a great song, and I really think representative of pre AI Taylor. I’m just eh about the video. I actually liked WRIR (the video, not the song) a lot better.

  78. casualfan Says:

Sweetay-No offense to you by any means, but Taylor got his foot in the door when he won AI. All the doors swung open for him but he didn’t walk thru them. I don’t think for one second that AI in any way sabotaged his career-Taylor did that all himself in part with his pompous attitude which is now coming back to haunt him.

SMB does have the potential to make some kind of splash in the country genre but that video isn’t going to help him at all. It would have been more effective for him just standing on the stage wooing everyone on camera as he does in his shows. He needs to leave the theatrics to people who knows what they are doing-clearly does not.

I don’t mean to offend anyone with my comments and I’m sorry if I make some people angry. But I am a bit angry too because I see a waste of talent of someone who is constantly flying below the radar and won’t give himself the credit in knowing that he’s capable of so much better. Someone who is close to Taylor told me and a few others one time that if he doesn’t pull himself together, he will be selling cd’s out the trunk of his car again in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

His cd “under the radar” is aptly named.

  79. Snowstorm Says:

Taylor said so himself what the song is about.. it’s about life on the road being a poor musician and playing honky-tonks down South!!! So, don’t tell me when I know!!!!

  80. Sweetay Says:

OK.. I am going to leave this for awhile. Heaven knows I have other thing that need doing.

But it should at least make some of you that are fearing that Taylor has blown his last chance….

There are others who really do like the video. Here’s hoping there are more of us then you.

  81. Sweetay Says:

I meant to say it should make some of you feel better…

Grey! I need an edit link!

  82. Sweetay Says:

Snow: you crack me up . You really should chill before you melt all over yourself.

    bye

  83. casualfan Says:

Taylor would have been better off landing his ice-cream cone in the middle of a dusty field-at least he’s known for that.

  84. Snowstorm Says:

The snow has melted…for now anyway, but it always comes back…damn snow!

  85. There are others who really do like the video. Here’s hoping there are more of us then you.

See, sweetay…this is the problem with this fanbase. It’s not a war, it’s not us against them, it’s not good fans vs bad fans. We should all just be fans of the man, and respect everybody’s opinions.

  86. Okay, I get it… “Gonna tear this whole place down/And be on my way..”
And then, Mr. Hicks drives off. Get it??!?
    *sigh*

Okay, I don’t find the vid “artistic”. In fact, the “southern girl” cliches are a little annoying to me. The bath, the floral dress, watering the flowers, the lemonade, the girls, the field, blah blah blah… where’s the plantation and the Tarleton twins?

I don’t blame Mr. Hicks though, he didn’t make the video. It’s just a different interpretation than the classic look of WRIR.

And I have to agree with Grey re: her “it’s not a war” comment. It’s not. It’s an opinion, that’s all.

  87. casualfan Says:

  88. casualfan Says:

  89. casualfan Says:

looks like the embedding has been disabled..oh well…Lunatic Fringe sums up the fandom and what we are feeling about Mr. Hicks.

  90. I had a great idea! Since charcoal expects the underwear to be such a big seller, Taylor should offer them for sale at HQ. And there should be a matching bra with ‘soul patrol’ written on one strap.

Hahahaha!…oh damn! I almost got all the way through that with a straight face.

  91. mamaforpeace Says:

Total disconnect for me between the lyrics and the images. It’s like the guy making the video never bothered to listen to the song. Taylor looks good, the girls look good, and yes, the panties look good! And what exactly does this all have to do with SMBD?

  92. mamaforpeace Says:

    Now, Caryl, that’s funny!

  93. Snowstorm Says:

caryl, they would have to come in granny panty sizes, lol! The bras in 40DDD sizes! that is so sad!

Who knows, maybe the cute, thin girls out there will see this video and want to be TH fans, just like the cute girls in the video!

  94. Is a size 6 thin? Just curious.

  95. casualfan Says:

By today’s standards caryl, no it isn’t. “OO” is considered the perfect size.

I’m a 40D and damn proud of my sisters. When gay men are giving me compliments on my twin peaks, I know I’m doing something right. 😉

  96. casualfan Says:

And it doesn’t matter what size a person is…it’s about attitude. There are millions of beautiful plus sized women who carry themselves with class, attitude and wonderful self expression. If someone is hung up on size then that’s their problem.

  97. suze4158 Says:

    Checking in to say….well….

Taylor is better in many respects than this video shows him.
His lurking at the girl at the mailbox creeped me out, frankly. Now, if he had stopped for a quick chat or even a tete’ with her, then that would have been interesting. She could have hopped in to go to his concert in the field as his special guest. Does he not want to be known as a sexy beast? That potential is there. Take the opportunity, Taylor, Take IT, ’cause many think you are!

My favorite part is the fact that she is dressing and bathing to the beat of the music playing on her ipod, which happens to be Taylor… to go to this informal concert, which happens to be him. Kinda cute concept that they botched in between.
It would have been cool if they’d looked surprised to see each other or something, when she got there.
    I dunno.

His jeans seemed baggy, too, but I am being a bit picky on that one.
And the cameraman needed to stand up and not shoot below him so much.

I do keep in mind this video was about 3 days to 1 week in the making….a lot different timetable than WRIR (which was far superior).

I think I admire him for trying to crank this out timely with the AI appearance and the dropping of the single. At least I think I do.

Hope the results are worth the expense.

LOL, LUV the comments. This is actually fun.

    Still love the video.

And Snow, I am so sick

and tired of you calling all Taylor fans old and fat!!!

And I have been taking my own independent survey *cough cough* amongst young girls. It seems the majority like his music and style, just have a problem with his gray hair. *shrugs*

  99. caryl Said: “I had a great idea! Since charcoal expects the underwear to be such a big seller, Taylor should offer them for sale at HQ. And there should be a matching bra with ’soul patrol’ written on one strap.”

LOL Girl! You are hot today!!! (I think charcoal is already trying to market those panties.)

  100. casualfan Says:

Wouldn’t surprise me if those panties comes out with “Modern Whomp” across the ass.

  101. I agree with snow and casualfan in that I expected the video to interpret the song, even though I sort of had my doubts when I heard about the red corvette and it being filmed in CA in one day.

  102. Now those would be a BIG seller cf!!

  103. Damn! 6 ain’t thin. I’m going on a diet. And if I bought the HQ undies, I wouldn’t need the bra. 😦

    TMI?

    ======================================
Struggling musicians don’t typically drive around in vintage corvette’s either especially in MS. A 65 Mustang would have fit better, at least in my opinion.

  106. JumpedtheShark Says:

    Agreed Christa!!

  107. jerseyirish Says:

Caryl, Great idea SP panty and bra set, wow!!! 🙂

To me it looked like he was having fun, just enjoying the shoot and driving around in that red vet. I know my son has a 72 GTO he has restored and there is nothing like the smile on his face when he pulls out of the driveway with it!!! 🙂

  112. casualfan Says:

    That’s just too sad.

  115. casualfan Says:

“It is better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for something you are not.”

  116. Snow, you REALLY have a problem!

  117. Damn, I just can’t shut up or get enough. There are not enough of we fans who just go out and buy the latest Tay CD. so it matters what the general public thinks of this song and the video, should they ever get to see and hear it. It is an inoffensive light Video and he looks good in it. The general public does no know the back story about Wynn and the song meaning. So why in the heck should there need to be a literal interp represented on the video. The song is catchy, southern infused rock/country and should catch on somewhere, maybe even crossover. Taylor is not dumb. Tay the artist, and the vid guy artist combined wits to achieve the best out of this song, via the visual video and I think they did a good job. Everyone of us has an opinion and I try to see others but lets not believe we are the only group that matters.

  118. casualfan Says:

Stress and anger issues is another factor.

  119. “Caryl, Great idea SP panty and bra set, wow!!! :)”

No, Caryl and JI, “Modern Whomp Panties” is a lot cooler. Just the word “whomp” has certain connotations that seem to go with “panties” really well. LOL

  120. We are NOT old.

(What? Oh…today it’s our fatness? But I thought he needed younger fans? Oh, not today. Oh, OK. Thanks.)

    We are NOT fat!

  121. Snowstorm Says:

I have NO problems, whatsoever! Just pointing out the obvious issues.

LOSE THE FAT AND BE HEALTHY!!! EXERCISE AND EAT LESS!!!! YOU WILL BE HAPPIER AND HAVE MORE SELF-CONFIDENCE!!!!!

  122. Sierra Says:

I’ll never understand you Snow. Sometimes you are rational and logical, then other times you are a raving lunatic.

  123. OK, raj. How about ‘soul patrol’ on one bra strap and ‘whomp this’ on the panties?

Have we turned charcoal’s stomach yet?

  124. Hey, how ’bout that video?

  125. Sierra Says:

I have to agree with IAG concerning the video. It was okay.

  126. casualfan Says:

Well, I’m off to have my southern fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes smothered in white country gravy and corn on the cob topped off with a huge piece of cheesecake and straw topping before I plop my super sized fat old ass down in my rocker to watch AI tonight.

    Good night all!

  127. Can’t believe I’m nutty enough to state what I’m going to say. I’m tired of the Tay may be gay nonsense and BW nonsense. CF made a BW in pink panties comment even though she informed us about Tay’s exotic squeeze at the Roxy. There has been no evidence ever that Tay is gay and none to even joke that he could be. Bill W. is his trusted good friend and paid employee. But lets assume that he was gay or bi. Do you really believe B.W. would be his choice? It makes me laugh when it doesn’t make me hot under the collar. His 4 and a half yr GF said music is his other mistress. He is still a young hotter than ever looking man who is more caught up in his career and new found celeb than he ever was when he chose not to commit to her. Give the guy a break on at least these stupid and completely unfounded, off in left field, inuendos. They are just stupid boring nonsense comments.

  128. Now we know Snow is the health and fat police. And she says fat (and old) people aren’t’ allowed to like certain types of music or artists. Dawlin, I think you are the delusional one sometimes.

  129. if you say so Says:

    *coughbaitingcough*

  130. Snowstorm Says:

    HAHA! I’m always right!!!!!!

  131. blueberry Says:

No wonder unkind things are said about this fanbase…a discussion of a video dissolves into elementary commentary about weight…..how does this happen?

  132. OK, (drum roll) here is MHO on the video. Was disappointed the first time I watched it. Like I said, sort of expected it to be at least a little related to the story of the song. Didn’t find the quality near as good as WRIR and didn’t “get it.” Second time I watched I liked it a little bit more. Now, after all this discussion, watched it again and actually had fun with it. No, it’s not top-notch quality or artistic like WRIR. But I’m tending to agree with rosie & christa that it’s not meant to be more than just fun. He’s trying to associate himself with younger women and he does that. He looks great, the song sounds great. There are actually guys in the field there too. I agree she should have driven off in the car with him at the end, and I wish he could have had his band in it.

I already wrote above that I think he handled the “country” aspect of it well. He’s not trying to be something he’s not in it. He didn’t come out trying to be all county-ish and kept his SP strap, which I happen to like. If sweetay is right, that was a good move. I like her take on it and I hope she’s right about non-tay fans liking it and not over analyzing it.

  133. casualfan Says:

rosie, you are the only one who is bringing attention to the comment I made. I won’t apologize for it because it was tongue and cheek humor. If it bothers you so much then don’t read it and NO ONE has said anything about Taylor’s sexual orientation except you. Water off a ducks back Rosie.

  134. “Being fat is unhealthy!!! When will you realize this…when you’re dead?”
    ————————————–
WOW NEWS FLASH! STOP THE PRESSES! Wow, snow, you think you are actually giving us some insight here? Why don’t you go post that on a health board or something? We’re talking about Taylor’s video here. You just seem to want to insult (some of) his fans and try to change their lifestyles, as if you really cared.

  135. Christa Says:

    Damn….

And about the guitar strap, I didn’t even notice it until it was pointed out here. Not that big of a deal. It’s not as if he’s spazzing and shouting. He’s just rocking it out. *Shrug* Just stating an opinion…

  136. Snow, knock the shit off or your ass will be back in moderation.

  137. Snowstorm Says:

OK sorry, go back to stuffing your faces with unhealthy junk food and not moving your bodies. Sorry, you’re right and I’m wrong. *snickers*

  138. *Not taking the bait*

BUT as usual, you’re generalizing. You’re like a Soul Patrol Archie Bunker. (Yeah, yeah I know, you never heard of him.)

  139. mamaforpeace Says:

Fair warning, AIG! I like that!
OK, I have to ask because I just found out that I CAN go to the Seattle concert. Anyone from this blog going?

  140. Christa, I’m always happy to hear your perspective and I’m glad you like the video. I truly think that’s what he was aiming for. Something that was attractive to younger fans and that was also fun.

  141. Snowstorm Says:

caryl, you should know by know, I’m not a soul patroller! 😉

I’ve seen All In The Family! I like Archie because he doesn’t hold anything back, but he’s mean to his wife and I don’t like that.

  142. jerseyirish Says:

raj, Totally agree, and I think he accomplished just that guitar strap and all. He seemed to be having fun throughout.

  143. Christa Says:

My sister just converted to a Taylor fan. XD

  144. Iagreewithyou Says:

My first post here although I read here quite often. The name does not necessarily mean what it says, especially here. There is one thing I would like to point out that may help reveal why some are so disappointed in Taylor’s new video of SMB. This one thing can ruin many things for those that practice it. EXPECTATIONS !!!

  145. Wow so many opinions and I still hold mine the most dear. The song and its acceptance and sales of ‘The Distance’ are what matters most to Taylor. Did anyone hear the interview he gave about his AI appearance last week? He not only mentioned his fun on being on that stage again but that he knew his fans at home were watching and excited. We who not only bother to follow him but go that big extra step to go online to keep tabs on his every move and write about same are hard core, his base. My wish is that tens of thousand more just stumble across his singles and like what they hear enough to download or buy the CD. Don’t know what he wishes but I’d guess he wants the CD to sell in the hundreds of thousands. Bet he wants to hear himself on the radio on a regular basis. Perhaps he wants to star on Broadway and be up for an award as is Constancrap. I think he does have the talent and charm for a movie role while some others think he was a FAIL even in his SMB video as far as acting. Casualfan, I get your tongue and cheek barbs about BW, but truly for me Snowstorm makes way more sense with her old lady soul patrol nonsense. What is your purpose if not to imply he is gay or bi and the same goes for you grey with all your barbs? What is your motive and don’t dare twist it that I brought up his sexuality. Trust me many have noticed the barbs and just as many have wondered WTH is wrong with those who keep on with that nonsense. I’m just bold enough to call you on it.

  146. Sweetay Says:

A friend that I had shown the video to just called me and asked if Taylor had another song out. They were at Lowes and heard “What’s right is Right” on the speakers and thought it sounded like him. She said they liked it too. These are non-Taylor fans. AND this is Saint Louis which NEVER plays Taylor.

Maybe a change is finally coming.

I am choosing to feel very good about all this. I never thought these people who laughed at me for liking Hicks would ever come around.

Snow.. Hey girl… I am really sorry that the video and other people’s age and body fat is putting so much stress on you. I don’t know much else what to say. Maybe you should go find a loved one and have some fun. Take care.

  147. -video’s overall vibe…pretty cool

-pretty ladies are always a good idea

-I’m going to come out and say….I like the Soul Patrol guitar strap. I know I’m going to pay for this. Oh man. But it shows he knows where he comes from…he doesn’t deny his roots…it’s real.

-I like the denim. Taylor Hicks looks good in this video.

-I like the Corvette (who doesn’t like an old Corvette?), but for this video I would have swapped it for a cool ’56 pickup or something.

    -Overall vibe is good.

  148. ‘overall’ twice…oh well.

  149. mamaforpeace Says:

ok, I guess noone here is going to the Seattle concert!!!

  150. casualfan Says:

tandjam-I agree with the denim and I don’t have a problem with strap although I do find it a little campy but that’s ok. But the Soul Patrol is not Taylor’s roots-at least I don’t see it that way. Taylor was on the music scene long before the SP came to be. His roots would have been a honky tonk bar.

  151. Oh rosie…always so serious.

  152. Damn! I so loved Allison 😦

  153. Did anyone else just see that UNBELIEVABLE performance by Allison??!! I’ve known from the beginning she had that in her. I’m going to have to drown my sorrows now. She’s the only one’s I’ve bought this year. I’ll be buying Cry Baby for sure. She was my favorite! She’ll be the next Janis Joplin, just wait…..

  154. Christa Says:

I didn’t tune in. Allison went home?! Wtf America?!
Oh well, she’ll get a record deal.

Oh yes and the corvette in the video rocks. My dad’s really big on cars (he’s a mechanic) so of course he loved the video, lol. If I were the girl I would’ve hopped in.

  155. rosie, i pretty much agreed with your take on the video here today. I just don’t get why you keep harping on the BW thing. It was just a TIC joke. I didn’t get any insulting innuendo about T’s SO out of it.

CF, I think the SP is who he has to thank for winning AI and opening so many doors for him.

  156. “Imply he is gay or bi…. ”

Well, Rosie. I’m not sure of anything, honestly. I will say that Mr. Hicks is not really like most of the guys I know in that there don’t seem to be that many women around. Yeah, we’ve seen Lyders, and the R & K date, but still, all I hear is the same old song “Oh, I’m looking!”

It seems like all his “relationships” are just more fodder for the PR machine. In this day of “in your face celebrity” we see all kinds of celebs in real relationships, and that in turn makes them more real to us, the great unwashed.
To me, not seeing him in a “real” relationship, just makes him seem as standoffish as his refusal to blog, his lame attempts at tweeting, and his general lack of originality when he interviews.

I couldn’t care less if Mr. Hicks was gay, bi, or had some deliciously twisted fetish… I just want him to tour this damn CD.

  157. Christa, she left the show with a HUGE bang. If you thought she did it well last night (I did), you have to find a way to watch her from tonight. Just phenomenal!

  158. jerseyirish Says:

raj, Yeah I was sorry to see Allison go, thought it would be her or Kris going tonight. She just has such a solid voice a real rocker girl.

    JI

  159. Grey, I don’t think of myself as always serious. My real life friends think I’m funny and so does my family, even when I don’t try to be so. I’ve had co workers say time and again, “you are so funny”. It must be the way I express myself. My ex thought I was funny and feisty. Sometimes with the Taylor talk and critique by others I just go off and express my thoughts. I get the BW, always there at Tay’s beck and call thing. These past 9 months I’ve read the comments that suggest he may be gay. I would not want anyone to venture into my sexuality who did not know me. I get Hicks is a celebrity and anything goes. I also know the inside of celebrity and movies and stars and acting and entertainment and fans I have someone near and dear to me who is a celebrity. Perhaps I’m tainted by that. That person thinks I’m wise and funny. Most important of all is I think I’m honest and fair.

  160. While I’m so sad that Allison is gone, my other fave, Kris is safe!!! Yeah!! Bananas for everyone!!! This is the first season since my most favoritest season 5 and my mostest favorite, dear Taylor that I’ve been drawn in…not in such a visceral way as with Taylor, but in a more overall entertaining way. Can I have a group hug now???

  161. Peoples and tweeples, please understand I do not care about Tay’s sex life. Raj said I harp on it, the BW thing. All I did was respond to about the 10th comment/joke, I’ve read here and elsewhere. And that 10 does not include the so called haters who post on random articles. It was just my response to something said in fun but something said quite often in so called fun. It was just my thought TODAY on the matter. I will not be slayed if for the next 3 years some of you joke about Tay and BW every month. But on the other hand, you can expect me at some point in time for me to respond.

  162. Haha! Grey, I know you weren’t just responding to my post, I hope!!

  163. Rosie, it’s fine. Sometimes we all get a wild hair (so to speak) and something that we wouldn’t normally glance at, rubs us the wrong way.
There’s just something in the air today, that’s all. Maybe it’s the crazy storm front, or mercury retrograde, who knows!!

I’m glad Kris is safe too. I will miss Allison, thought Gokey should have left tonight, he just does nothing for me.

  164. That video seems like a last minute effort. The important thing is he didn’t wear that strap on Idol. That’s where people would be seeing it. Doubt this video will get anything even remotely close for views as his Idol appearance. No harm no foul.

    2. Don’t think he’s gay or even close. I agree with YKW that his female “relationships” so far have all been fodder for publicity. I sense he is very private about that aspect of his life and will keep the real stuff under wraps and won’t share it with the fans until there’s an engagement. This is not that unusual for a celebrity. Especially ones with rabid fans. His personal life isn’t any of our business anyway.

  165. Snowstorm Says:

blue, that was well said. But, that vid is important. If that video was good, that would have launched his career as a country rock artist, but since the video is crap, it might actually hurt him. Wearing the SP strap was a very bad idea… the Country folks will look down on that, for sure.

When will he realize the SP is more of a detriment to his career?

  166. Snowstorm Says:

  168. Momo..I’m confused?

    Feeling wha?

  169. Just joking about your last post! Totally a lark, no seriousness intended. The C person in your last scenario! says something but nobody responds, etc.. Oh, well, when you have to explain a joke, it’s just not that funny..

  170. I think momo is feeling C, because A wants to show B that she/he may be on moderation, so that now C thinks that means that she is in moderation because A is the moderator and that B was misbehaving and has reduced all of us, B’s included into lowly C statuses.
    Is that right?

  171. And Who’s on first . . . .

  172. Por ejemplo…C. “Person of low or unknown status”

  173. Um…ahahhahahahahah…

I can’t follow that one, Barb!!

There’s only one person in moderation on this board right now. 😉

  174. Not quite right Barb, I as a C have said nothing to put me in moderation, but even though I wish I were an A, I may be a B, but am most likely really a C.. do you understand??? :+0

  175. I must be really tired. Everybody has to explain things to me tonight. 😆

  176. Hmm . . spammer selling Modern Whomp undies maybe ?

  177. The person in moderation that is . . not Barb

  178. Ahahaha=fake laugh? Back to our regularly scheduled program! Sorry, I’m a day late and a dollar short.. Just so glad this last day has brought back so much more interest and liveliness!

  179. Gawkey stays for another round!
    Homecoming week……….hmmmmmmmmm.
    🙂

  180. No. ahahahah=real laugh. At least today.

  181. It’s been real flaky here today! In a good way………I love this up & down stuff………some hot under the collar…….
In a 24 hour period we went from love fest (I just love you can express your opinions etc.) to a “no wonder this board has a bad rep” sort of thing. It was mahvelous!
Chaos, panick & disorder, my work here is done!
    Have a good night everyone…………!
    Time for tuckins.

  182. Cool iag that you can still laugh authentically after all of the bs you have to tolerate. I say Adam & kris final 2. Monkey power!!

  183. rosie, Sorry, should not have said that. I only meant that it seemed you kept bringing the subject back up here today.

  184. Cool iag that you can still laugh authentically after all of the bs you have to tolerate. I say Adam & kris final 2. Monkey power!!

By the power vested in me, I now proclaim momo a “B”. What I have deemed, let no SP’er set asunder.

LOL!!! omg, I need to go to bed.

You may know kiss the bride, or the monkey. Whichever you prefer.
Just not the robot. Please, not the robot!! Hahaha

  185. Maybe the video should have ended with Taylor UNdressing after the gig only to reveal that now HE’S wearing the pink panties.

Sorry, I just had to end the day with one last comment about the underwear. Nite!

  186. casualfan Says:

Just watched AI and I’m a little sad that Alison got the boot but then again I look at Daughtry and how successful he has become and will continue to be. Speaking of Daughtry, I wasn’t wild about the song he performed but it’s got potential. I’m impressed with the fact that he said “we” and not “me” which I like and he had his band with him.

    Cool beans to all!

  187. mamaforpeace Says:

Snow must be right! I must be getting old because most of the acts on Idol tonight seemed a bunch of crap to me, including Daughtry. I thought it was just a lot of screaming. And Paula? What??? The only one I liked was Allison. The girl can sing, and only 17! I was also wondering if people keep asking CD when he first started going bald, like they ask Taylor when he started going grey. After tonight, all I have to say, is I love Taylor Hicks!!!

  188. casualfan Says:

Tonight was rock night mama so I understand the screaming.

  189. mamaforpeace Says:

Guess I like my rock more on the bluesy side. Allison was doing rock too, but it wasn’t screechy like Daughtry.

  190. I was a bit underwhelmed by Daughtry’s song too, as I have been by most of the entertainment this season. (No Doubt – yuck!) I will give his song another try though. I like to listen to a song a few times before making a judgment. (But his voice seemed off tonight too.)

I’ve been a naughty girl tonight. (Badfan?) http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv196/rajrae/?action=view&current=Presentation1.jpg

  191. AND he’s doing an acoustic solo show in MI on June 22.

  192. mamaforpeace Says:

I would be able to go to that! Hope there’ll be some good videos.
Raj, never got a chance to thank you for the youtube video of Marva Wright. I really enjoyed it! Thanks:)

  193. Whoa, all this news! WRIR Video is up on CMT. Very surprising.

  194. mamaforpeace Says:

Ha, ha, wishful thinking! I would LOVE to be able to go! Won’t happen. Darn!

  195. Accoustic “The Fall” in case you missed the link above: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03niBIFsjoY

And don’t miss my naughty picture. I did that especially for charcoal. I think that will increase sales.

  196. lurkernewbie Says:

I’ve lurked here for quite some time and seen how it’s devolved. Used to be fun to read it. But the trolling and bashing by Snowstorm is sad. And the fact this blog has turned into a hate blog is sad too. Why does that happen so much when it comes to Taylor? I guess I’m part of the problem because I give you hits by reading here. The guy just isn’t good enough for you all, so why worry? Lots of other musicians to follow. Oh yeah. It’s probably about the hits. Too bad.

  197. Lurkernewbie Says:

This used to be a fun blog to read. Now it’s all about bashing and baiting the posters and hating on Taylor. Too bad.

  198. Oh Raj, what a great way to start my day……….The Fall, from In Your Time (or Earlyworks, whatever)……doesn’t he sound nice on accoustic?

  199. and Part 2 is accoustic version of Gonna Move. Neat! The old way, the better way NOT the TH way!

  200. Sierra Says:

Caryl said: “Maybe the video should have ended with Taylor UNdressing after the gig only to reveal that now HE’S wearing the pink panties.”

That would be the best ending of any video ANYWHERE!!! LOL!!!

  201. Not the TH way? Don’t understand what you mean Barb. I love acoustic “The Fall,” but personally prefer songs like GM with the band.

Lurker, I don’t think this is a “hate blog.” If it was I wouldn’t spend another minute here. I WOULD say it can be a very critical blog at times. What’s good about it is that people can criticize, and others can defend, and it gets interesting and we all think/learn/interact more than if we were just a bunch of cheerleaders. There are other places to go for that. I would agree that “someone” might need to be reigned in a little sooner sometimes as it causes things to deteriorate pretty quickly. Heated discussion – OK; Fans attacking fans – not good. But overall, it’s a fun and interesting place to be to talk about TH and other music.

  202. Dontcha think they should sell these at the merchandise table at Grease and TH concerts? http://s683.photobucket.com/albums/vv196/rajrae/?action=view&current=Presentation1.jpg

    =============
I didn’t like the TH version of this song. He’d been singing this song for so long like this:

    http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=3005541

then he changed it all up on the TH cd………I wasn’t fussy on that!

  204. The panties could also say “Whomp This!”
    LOL

  205. Ok Barb, I saw on the next page that you meant TH the cd, not TH the person. Confused me a little there.

  206. Yea, that was one other possibility I thought of for the panties too. I thought of others too:
    Whomp It Up!
    Whomp Me!
    Whompin Around
Modern Whomp (with the logo, if there is one)
    😉

  207. PurpleButterflies Says:

    “NO, NO, NO, Caryl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do you think so many people have disappeared and are not coming back, ever? Unless Taylor has a hit song, he is stuck with his small fanbase.

The way some of you talk – you make NO sense at all!”

You sound like you’re about to have a nervous breakdown. Why invest so much time in something you don’t love? Elie Wiesel, who was a holocaust survivor and won a Nobel Peace Prize, said that the opposite of love is not hate, but indifference. You’re not at the point of indifference yet.

With that said, can you back up the statement that so many people left and are not coming back ever? Left what? The boards and blogs? Perhaps they left those because they got on with life’s matters and decided not to spend so much time discussing Taylor. Too much time goes by and it takes away from accomplishing one’s every day tasks. There is nothing wrong with that. I’ve done it for the most part and only post or read every now and again. It’s a healthy thing to do. Leaving a board or blog does not mean that the person has stopped being a fan of the artist’s music. Left buying Taylor’s music? I doubt it. People know a new song is out by 1) radio play 2) a video that is not limited to just being viewed on the internet, but is viewed on tv 3) tv appearances. Case in point. Taylor sings on AI, sales go up. This tweet right after that AI appearance on Twitter sums up the consensus of the general public “pdavew: I didn’t know Taylor Hicks was still alive! ” The general public did not leave. They just don’t know what Taylor has been up to since AI.

PurpleButterflies, when people leave fan boards that means their interest has waned. I have seen this happen many times before. I’ll bet anything that many of those people did not buy The Distance and have no plans to attend his concerts. They may come back if Taylor has a hit song, but otherwise those people are lost forever.

When the artist does nothing with his career… there’s nothing to be a fan of. Of course, Taylor taking a role in Grease, speaks volumes. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I am right about this.

  209. Snowstorm Says:

I’ll stop being a fan when I decide it’s time to move on, not when someone tells me to. Trust me, I’m no where near as over-invested as some of you are. However, I would like to see this guy do well – I do believe he has talent. He’s made some huge mistakes… he should have stopped that soul patrol nonsense a long tima ago – you can’t get much lamer than that. He should have never recorded “elevator” music – the general public hates that music.

I’m curious how he will do in the country arena. I don’t think he will be accepted, but time will tell.

I was a bit underwhelmed by Daughtry’s song too, as I have been by most of the entertainment this season. (No Doubt – yuck!) I will give his song another try though. I like to listen to a song a few times before making a judgment. (But his voice seemed off tonight too.)
    =============================================
raj, No Doubt made no sense to me although I didn’t hate it.

Abdul needs to just go away.

One of the things that impressed me about Daughtry is the way they represent themselves. The band still has the “small town” band feel to it and I like that. Maybe “jam band” is more appropriate. There’s no glitter or fancy stuff-just plain good music. I didn’t like Daughtry at first because I was so wrapped up in the SP vs Chris thing way back when. I decided to give the man a chance and liked what I heard. Chris deserves all the success he’s getting and I do wish him well.

  211. PurpleButterflies Says:

“PurpleButterflies, when people leave fan boards that means their interest has waned. ”

According to whom? In the past week, I have bought CD’s by Bo Bice and Tony Bennett and put a bunch of songs on my Zune. I don’t belong to any of these artists’ boards. The interest in the music will always be there if a person loves music. People don’t leave fan boards because their interest in the artist has waned. They leave fan boards because they finally came to their senses and realized how much time is wasted spending day after day discussing and analyzing everything about the artist.

  212. Hey…just watched the video…it was fine. One of my favorite parts about it, where I began to smile a little, was when I noticed the Soul Patrol starp. That, I thought, was very sweet of Taylor. What a great guy! Love the song…just absolutely love it!!!!

    🙂

  213. Snowstorm Says:

PurpleButterflies, you are in denial, but whatever. The fact of the matter is some of the sites have closed shop because not enough traffic – that means people are not even checking in to see what’s going on. Those are not good signs, whatever kind of spin you want to put on it. Granted, some of the problems were created by fans themselves, but that’s beside the point.

To go from 700,000 to 27,000 in cd sales. That’s not enough proof for you to determine the size of Taylor’s fanbase? Tons and tons of people have left the fanbase, sweetie.

  214. Okay, first let me say I am happy Taylor is doing music videos PERIOD! Now with WRIR it was what I expected and seemed to have a lot of Taylor all over it. Now with SMBD it just fell totally flat, best thing about the video was the SP strap, the Hot Denim Tay had on and the wide open field concept.

This director first is totally obsessed with Steven Spielberg hence all the rear view mirror shots, and left aligned med-shots.

As many times Tay has been interviewed and said this was a story album and he wanted to take the listener on a journey…where was the STORY in this video or plot even!!!

What I expected from this video…

Start out with a Tour Bus on the open road Taylor glancing out the window signing part of the first verse.

Hey then cut to girl pulling out backstage pass and getting ready.

Back to bus pulling into country fair Games and rides all around, low shot of Tay exiting bus boots first pan up and pull out.

Cut to girl playing game with friends and laughing. Front shot of her after winning and Tay comes from behind and covers her eyes. She turn around and sees her baby is back and he hugs her and spins her around, the friends bids them goodbye.

Cut to: Stage performance full band sign on stage “Welcome Home” short elevated stage in center of fair people standing half moon around it and many dancing (line)

Cut to: Tay and girl playing games/bumper cars always eye contact.

Cut to: Stage performance girl in crowd with friends, Tay always making eye contact.

Cut to: Stage performance bridge to end.

Cut to: Tay and girl walk off through field into Sunset.

JMO At some point Taylor you have to end up with the girl.

    LOL

  215. casualfan Says:

People’s reasons for leaving fanboards vary and who’s to say what those reasons are. But it’s pretty clear from record sales alone that he has suffered a dramatic hit and cd sales and tkt sales for his shows reflect that. And if you want to throw Twitter in there as well. With the Twitter craze that is sweeping the nation right now one would think that his following would be way past 1,500.

  216. casualfan Says:

TF1 that video has the feel of being slapped together (as always seems to be the case of late). It seems as though in an ADD moment, he called up someone and said: “The fans all want SMB so let’s slap together something….r u free next week?”

And I don’t get these so called video producers hooking up with the SP while shooting a video either. Business is business and personally I think they should stick to the business at hand instead of smooching the fandom.

    btw-like your idea 😉

I guess I left the wrong impression. I like Daughtry too! I HATE the CD Vs Taylor thing! I just didn’t think the AI performance was fantastic but OK. And I thought SOME of the material on his first cd left a lot to be desired. But I’m a fan for sure.

  220. mamaforpeace Says:

I want to say that I like CD too, and also wish him all the best. I did appreciate as you said, CF, that he used “we” rather than “I”. I just really didn’t care for the song or the way he sang it last night. I guess I am just left a little puzzled that TH is not doing better with The Distance. It really is not a bad cd at all, very good in parts. The marketing sucks, though, as evidenced by this video. The devil is in the details, and it seems very little attention is ever paid to the details.

I know quite a few who don’t visit the boards that often, and a lot who have stopped posting all together. I still keep in touch with them, and they’re still fans-just not fans of message boards and blogs. There should come a time when people realize that it is not healthy to spend every day talking about an artist, and/or finding out about every detail of his life and his actions.

“To go from 700,000 to 27,000 in cd sales. That’s not enough proof for you to determine the size of Taylor’s fanbase? Tons and tons of people have left the fanbase, sweetie.”

I already told you. Visibility brings sales. His music is not that visible.

  222. PurpleButterflies Says:

One more thing before I go. Unless I have to stay and respond to anything. lol Snow, you wouldn’t by any chance be Secret Stare/jojo144 on boards/hiphop144 on Twitter/the one who called me fat, would you? You sound an awful lot like her. It’s okay if you are. I’m not going to rip you a new one. I was just wondering.

  223. casualfan Says:

I agree on the song he sang last night but I am holding out for the recorded version which I feel will sound better. Taylor is a live performer and sings much better than on recorded media. Chris is the opposite it seems…I’m in no way discounting his live performances btw. As I said, what impresses me most about Chris is the fact that he includes his band members and it’s not all about just Chris.

I’m with you raj-This chris vs taylor is pure nonsense. They are both entirely different performers and each deserve all the success they both garner. To be honest, I doubt if I would ever go see Chris in concert because I’m not into rock music-unless it’s old school rock, but that doesn’t lessen my respect for him. His first cd kicks A$$ and I am so glad I gave the man a chance. Ironically, all this fanwar nonsense is what made me actually take the time to listen to his music, so for that I’m thankful.

And I also had the pleasure of meeting several Daughtry fans who I think are really cool and down to earth people.

I think “TD” is a great cd although I’m not wild about some of the songs. But it does show-At least in MO-that Mr. Hicks has the balls to try out different genera’s knowing that it probably wouldn’t be well received in the public mainstream.

  226. I see T working his buns off to promote it & get it heard. If you don’t read on “that other board,” you don’t know about ALL the appearances and interviews he’s been doing. I don’t see how the man isn’t gonna die of a coronary if he doesn’t slow it down. One thing I’ll never fault him for is not working hard enough.

  227. Christa Says:

Mr. T is definitely working his @$$ off. Hopefully it pays off a little more, he definitely deserves it.

As for Daughtry, he has undeniable talent but I tend to confuse him with Nickelback. It has nothing to do with the fanwars (how ridiculous on both sides to STILL be feuding. Middle school drama anyone?), he was just never my cup of tea. Best of luck to him though.

  228. PurpleButterflies Says:

I also think he is working very hard to get his music out there and did not mean to imply otherwise.

  229. casualfan Says:

raj-I agree that Taylor is a true work horse. Obviously he does have good people behind him to be getting all those interviews and such. Not being successful in the mainstream doesn’t mean an Artist isn’t successful. There are many, many Artists out there that aren’t mainstream and they are indeed successful, happy and comfortable. That’s the important thing..ya know?

  230. Do you know how many people have asked me where he’s been? I hear all the time, “Wow. Where is Taylor these days? I haven’t heard anything about him since he won AI.”

He may be promoting, but maybe not the right way. No, I don’t know what the right way is. I’m just thinking out loud here.

  231. By mid 2007 my friends were already asking me where is he and saying you don’t hear of him much. Back then I said oh he is on a summer tour and just release his memoir. Now I say he has a new CD out and was on AI. My non AI friends know all about Kelly and Carrie and Clay because they have seen them on TV but not so much about Daughtry. I know he would love to be on Leno and all the other talk shows and music award shows but he won’t be invited unless he sells more. If he did a movie role of some substance at least he’d get some publicity. Well all is not lost as one of these songs COULD get radio play.

  232. IAG: “He may be promoting, but maybe not the right way. No, I don’t know what the right way is. I’m just thinking out loud here.”

The right way must be however the big record companies do it, and it probably costs a TON of money. Probably a lot of bribery going on there.

  233. I wish fans could just enjoy Taylor more and not fret so much about his career. He looks fantastic!!!!!!!!! The song is great, he tore the house down on AI. No one can take those things way from him. A lot of artists make a very good living without ever having a hit or the sales numbers of Carrie Underwood or Kelly C. I think Taylor has a very long career ahead. Look at Tony Bennet he said he’s making more money now than he ever did. Taylor says he’s in it for the long haul let’s just not worry so much. And by the way I like the video even more than WRIR if for no other reason than that beautiful face of his is not hidden in shadows. LOL.

  234. mamaforpeace Says:

“There are many, many Artists out there that aren’t mainstream and they are indeed successful, happy and comfortable. That’s the important thing..ya know?”
CF, that’s it exactly. That’s why I don’t fret over numbers (well, I also have more important things to fret about!). In San Fran, Taylor looked happy, the audience was happy, and I certainly was very happy. I just watched Michael J. Fox tonight talking about being an optimist. I think a lot of it has to do with putting things in perspective. If you are always looking for something over the rainbow, you might miss the bluebirds right here.
