Wowzer!!

Taylor brought his “A” game to American Idol tonight. He did a hell of a job…much better than I thought he would do. No Soul Patrol shoutouts, no goofiness. Just a musician up there singing the hell out of a great song.

I could talk about the vest, the jeans and the boots. I could go on about the vocals..or when he threw the harp. I could talk about how great the band was. But I think I’m just going to post the video.

  1. Taylor Hicks got it all completely right tonight. Beautiful job!

Good entrance. Great wardrobe. Low dork-rating. No exaggerated mugging. Good moves. Nice guitar. No Soul Patrol, no lean, no SP guitar strap, in good voice, nice band interaction. check, check, check. Just a perfectly satisfying appearance. Congratulations, Taylor!

And I’ve never seen Simon look gayer.

  2. I’ve got to give him his props tonight, for sure. He kept it together. He did everything right. Finally.

  3. What the what!! You mean I’m the first to comment?? Anyway, he was amazing. I think, if memory serves me well, he passed all of your concerns of the last post. He rocked it!!! He seemed ever so slightly nervous, or out of breath, not sure, when talking to Ryan. Loved the very audible hand slap at the end. Also loved the jab at Simon’s standing O. Ryan’s “awww, he missed you..” was also adorable!

  4. casualfan Says:

Thanks Grey! I haven’t seen AI yet…it’s not on here till 9:00. I’m resisting the urge to see the vid you posted so it won’t spoil the fun…sorry

  5. littlewing Says:

Surely Taylor brought a lot of smiles to many tonight. Very well done, loved the guitar and the energy and exhuberance with which he delivered his song. So happy for him! To get a standing O from the judges must have been so very gratifying.

I can’t get into GC chat, dadgummit! I love the way all of the old Taylor fans have gathered. Lots of virtual block parties going on tonight.

  6. Simon’s standing ovation! Holy crap Hell has frozen over!
    *faints again with fantardness*

  7. Oh CF, you are in for a treat.

  8. He bought it, brought it, rocked it, rolled it, took it home and put it to bed.
    Well done, Mr. Hicks… incredible!!!

  9. Oh man. How am I supposed to sleep tonight? That was so great. Every friggin detail was right on. It looked like he tossed the harmonica into the audience, didn’t it? I’m beside myself with giddiness. He wore the same outfit Bruce Springsteen wore at the concert I went to a few weeks ago. Nice choice.

It was especially fun to share it with everyone over at Gray’s. Yay.

  10. Let’s not go squishy over Simon Cowell’s reaction. He was doing a command performance of his impression of “gracious host.”

  11. Simon was wearing a thin graying white tee shirt and looked like an old fart compared to Tay. Taylor did just the right amt of moving and was a toe tapping, harp blowing harp tossing guitar god. His vocals had not only the energy of his live performances but he reached down and gave the song guts. I knew he’d be able to condense it well and arrange the band to his liking. It seems the band was into it and him. The teens and tweens in the audience were digging it.

  12. You’ve seen those cartoons with the people’s legs that are running, running, running, but not going anywhere? That’s what I feel like when I try to move away from Taylor. He just keeps sucking me back in.

  13. He did a fabulous job! And I’m so happy I got my harp! LOL I didn’t even notice during the performance but I just watched the video and yeah, he did throw it. I wonder where it landed? (I wish he would have knocked out Simon’s perfect teeth with it.) 😀 He looked GREAT! He sang great! And seemed so happy to be performing there. I was pretty surprised he lost the SP strap. Didn’t expect that.

Do you think the judges were just stunned or something? They all looked very strange. Sort of like a dazed look? LOL Sort of like “Who IS that guy?” Have none of them seen him in two years? I’m SURE they have. Maybe they just were not expecting that kind of a song from Taylor? And Why didn’t Paula get up and dance? That really surprised me. She ALWAYS dances, and that song is a hard one to sit still for. They all seemed to really dig Jamie Foxx’s song, but I didn’t like it all that much. I was still too zoned in on Taylor to pay much attention, but it sounded funny after hearing that driving SMB.

Hey, we should also be saying a big congratulations to Wynn Christian for his song FINALLY being played on the idol stage like Taylor wanted to play it 3 years ago. You rocked it Taylor!!

  14. dancingqueen Says:

Pure joy on that face! Couldn’t have asked for a better outcome, if we planned it ourselves LOL! I’m satisfied with gracious host from Scowell.

Taylor was GREAT tonight! I had no worries. Seriously.
    TAYLOR IS A STAR!!!

  17. West Coast is just getting it!

  18. spinshack Says:

No SOUL PATROL!!!! He’s getting so shiny I have to don sunglasses at night.

  19. Rosie: …”and looked like an old fart compared to Taylor”

    That is the damntruth!

  20. spinshack Says:

Loved that sun backdrop. Likely he had no idea…. ha.

  21. spinshack Says:

    Jamie Foxx was horrible.

  22. Seven Days Says:

True, your first post in this thread pretty much sums it all up for me as well, and the last sentence cracked me the hell up. Great way to end the night.

Congratulations, Taylor, you tore the old place down. Now you can be on your way.

  23. I loved his performance tonight. Wow. Was worth the wait.

Been surfing the net for chatter, and almost all comments I’ve read have been very positive. A lot of non-fans saying “Wasn’t a fan, but now I see what the SP saw in him” kind of comments…or “That was the best former idol performance all year” …

It’s lookin’ good for him tonight.

Grey – As much as you wished Taylor wouldn’t blow it…he blew the hell out of that harp tonight! 😉

  24. Well, Taylor just got MAJOR publicity for The Distance!! How many people didn’t even know he had a new CD out? They flashed the cover on that screen behind him when Ryan was talking to him.

  25. He sure nailed it. Much better than Natalie and Jamie. I like Natalie but she seemed off tonight. AND Jamie well I know he has a good voice but where the hell was it. LOL. Was he lipsynking or was there equiptment onstage to make his voice sound like a computer????????? BAD very bad.

  26. Seven Days “…and the last sentence cracked me the hell up”

Well not that I don’t love the gays. But Simon totally looked like he was crushin’. It was kind of pathetic. lol.

  27. Sojie, glad to hear about that positive chatter.

  28. Sojie, what are you googling?

  29. spinshack Says:

I’m pushing him on Twitter with Wade and pals…

  30. casualfan Says:

Taylor did well. But I LOVED Natalie Cole…she rocks as usual!

  31. casualfan Says:

Looks like Adam got a wake up call tonight. His fans need to pick up the pace and not forget to vote!

  32. Snowstorm Says:

If anybody is up, Taylor is going to be on, any minute, on American Idol Extra on the Fox Reality channel.

  33. spinshack Says:

Ah she was okay. My kid was like, “Who is she?” ( my daughter is a tweenie)

  34. mamaforpeace Says:

Best preformance from any of the idols this year… by far!

  35. Snow was he already on?

  36. My heart and mind is full of the best performance we could have asked for in a return by Taylor to AI.
I was almost upset when I saw that he did not get his own band out there.
However, it was almost a better scenario to have him showcased on his own with the guitar (and harp, of course). The band and singers did a really good job, he looked relaxed and joyful. The crowd was on their feet! Ryan was gracious and informative about TD and Grease, and Taylor threw a tiny comment Simon’s way.
The only small issue was the expression on the judges’ faces as Ryan interviewed him. Other than that…..
    PERFECT!
and the Amazon numbers are amazing following the show… 🙂

  37. casualfan Says:

LOVED the cocky, snarky grin on his face the entire time he was on stage! He showed pure defiance and stood proud-as he should! YEAH!

  38. suze4158 Says:

CF….Double YEAH! I was looking for attitude and Taylor brought it just right.
    What a night!

  39. Badfantoo Says:

He did a fantastic job. Beautiful singing, beautiful harp. And, he looked fucking gorgeous doing it. Yes.

  40. ….And on Idol Tonight he sang WRIR and did a beautiful job!!!!

  41. taylorfan06 Says:

PURE “MAGIC”!!! Good for Taylor. He’s the MAN!!! Best Idol Ever!

What was with the faces on the judges? They were like deers in the headlights. And the standing ovation? Maybe they all caught the woo!

  42. JumpedtheShark Says:

    Great job agreed.

The judges gave a standing O’s to Natalie and Jamie also.

  43. jerseyirish Says:

Awesome, awesome performance, he was just perfection. The grin on his face said it all. I think again he took folks by surprise, he just rocked it and looked fantastic!!! 🙂

Completely agree, CF. And that grin was totally “Eat shit and die”.
    Haha!!

  48. Wow… fell for Taylor all over again. Now he needs to get his ass out on the road and tour!!! I’m hungry, hungry ,hungry for more live Taylor. Ditch grease and go on tour!!!!!!

Did anyone else notice in the vid one of the tweens in the pit mouthed “I love you Taylor? !!!!!

  49. casualfan Says:

Trixi-I couldn’t agree more with that statement to “ditch Grease and go on tour!” That’s what we’ve been saying now for months! Taylor is a natural on stage as a TRUE MUSICIAN and hopefully he will get back into the groove soon.

I LOVED him tossing that harp after he was finished with it….ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING! WOOOHOOO!

  50. Yayyyyy! What a great song, great job!
I love the head bop: Giggety giggety giggety!

  51. jerseyirish Says:

Did you guys catch this, Taylor on Idol Extra after the show last night:

    JI

  52. Just listened to him on two country radio interviews. Well, only caught the last 20 seconds of the first one. But the one in Florida – wow! The station manager is a huge fan. Said he listens to TD ALL the time – it’s his “guilty pleasure” and the talked about a girl who is a friend of one of the DJ’s who has been to literally HUNDREDS of live concerts. She told the she saw Taylor at the Roxy and said he was by far the BEST live performer she has ever seen! Wish we had some THUMBS UP icons here….

  53. spinshack Says:

NO, thanks, JI! I was running around on twitter a while and then other sites. lol

  54. I would bet there is no way Taylor can “ditch Grease” right now. First of all, it’s his bread and butter. I’m sure he’s still paying lot so bills with that salary. Secondly, I assume he’s under contract! Lastly, he needs to see how much of a sales bump the AI and country exposure gives TD. I think he’ll get a temporary bump from AI, but the country cross-over will be more important to the success of the album. So far these country people seem very, very positive and open towards him, and the song. We’ll have to see how the country fans take to SMB.

  55. casualfan Says:

rajrae, I doubt Taylor has any financial worries. He baked his bread and churned his butter with his Idol win. Besides, he has a reputation for being shall we say…..”tight with the money belt”. 😉

  56. You think so CF? I would have thought making and marketing TD was a pretty expensive undertaking. (All the musicians and Simon C,the marketing & distribution, etc, etc,) It doesn’t seem to me like the sales have been high enough to recoup the cost and actually see a profit yet. But I really have no idea.

  57. jerseyirish Says:

I’m sure Taylor is secure financially also, he knew what could or couldn’t happen with the CD and took all that into consideration before starting all this on his own.

I’m still reeling from last night, he was just awesome, “star” written all over him, he just commanded the stage.

Was very surprised to see Adam in the bottom two last night, but knew it would be Matt going home. I think there could still be some surprises in this season, not sure Adam has it wrapped up just yet. Think Kris is going to be a real contender. Still think the final three will be Adam, Danny and Kris.

  58. HA HA HA!

On the big white page at graycharles.com this morning: “it never happened”

    Witty bastard.

  59. Reports from Amazon the morning after:

Amazon has The Distance #1 Blues Rock/ #3 Contemporary Blues/
#15 Adult Contemporary, and #98 in overall sales.

That is quite a jump from being on the 700’s on the chart to the top 100. Literally overnight.

The power of AI…. and a rockin’ performance from Taylor!

  60. jerseyirish Says:

suze4158- Thats great news, wow to number one overnight. The Idol performance is paying off big time!!!

    JI

  61. RedRoseSpeedway Says:

Excellent performance. And it was so much fun chatting on Gray’s site again.

  62. hicksaholic Says:

Damn I can’t believe I missed chatting but then I always posted but never chatted so I might have been lost.

I want to hear some reviews of Taylor’s appearance. I’m really hoping they are mostly positive.

  63. The band and back up singers were top notch and I bet Wynn was smiling.

  64. jerseyirish Says:

The reviews I’ve seen so far all have been positive, some even noted Simon’s standing ovation.

Rosie, I’m sure Wynn was rooting for him!!! 🙂

    JI

  65. jerseyirish Says:

suze4158, Do you have a link for the Amazon info?

    JI

  66. hicksaholic Says:

There ia a thread in the American Idol forums on Taylor. It is 70 something pages long, about 26-27 thousand posts. By far the longest thread on the forum. It was only 43 pages yesterday when I looked. It is mostly positive concerning his appearance last night. It is amazing to me the amount of interest Taylor still generates considering he has been out of sight out of mind for quite a while now.

  67. JI, I had picked up that report from the boogie.

I did not get links to all mentioned above, but here are the ones I saw from Amazon just now.

Here is the link for the movers and shakers list. He’s #1 here.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/movers-and-shakers/music/ref=pd_ts_m_mte

Bestsellers (now #78…it was in the 700’s yesterday)
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/music/ref=pd_ts_pg_4?ie=UTF8&pg=4

    Contemporary Blues #3
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/music/31/ref=pd_ts_m_nav

Sorry if the rest aren’t verified…I will post if I come up with them.

  68. I’m not sure how to find Suze’s numbers, but on Movers and Shakers Taylor’s at #1 now, with a jump of 3,589%. A big jump is to be expected post-show, and we don’t know how this jump compares to other alum performances. Also, it probably matters how long it lasts. Still, better than the other possibilities.

He’s also moved up to #50 on Hot New Releases. (Same unknowns apply.)

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/movers-and-shakers/music/ref=pd_ms_pg_1?ie=UTF8&pg=1

  69. Wow..he did a good job with WRIR. Still not a fan of the song, but that’s the best I’ve heard him sing it.

  70. Snowstorm Says:

Found an interview on a Country radio station this morning.

    http://www.kbull93.com/showdj.asp?DJID=41949

  71. jerseyirish Says:

Suze4158 & True, Thanks for the links. It’s nice to see it in print on a site.

aig, Wasn’t that the best!!! 🙂

    JI

  72. On the radio interview they greeted him with …

Host: Hey how are you? SOUL PATROL!!!
    Taylor: How’s it going?

    Ha.

I noticed several posters at SP Central last night celebrating that there was no SP shout out on Idol last night. (“He’s listening to us!” Someone should explain to me why every thoughtful critique I ever posted there about SP shout-outs was roasted on a spit, followed by deletion by the roux un, But….Oh. Kay.)

In any case, if there’s no love for SP even there, I think we can safely say it’s over. Dead. Buried. Finalement!

  73. Oh, thank God.

  74. And how interesting that the Soul Patrol guitar strap was gone?

  75. Guess we’ll see if that policy sticks.

  76. Snowstorm Says:

I think Taylor finally gets it…the diehard SP is not enough to sustain his career. He must get more people interested in him. He should have dropped the SP and Woo nonsense a long time ago. The novelty wore off ages ago! Fans need to drop the crap too!

  77. And have I mentioned him throwing the harp into the crowd? hahahaha

The point I was making is that none of us know-or should know what Taylor’s net worth is. It’s not our concern as fans, at least IMO. But I really don’t think that Taylor is in any financial straits. He’s actually a very good business man and has good people giving him advice. Contrary to what people want to believe, he has an excellent team backing him up and doing all they can to help him succeed. I know that’s not the popular opinion, but these people have excellent reputations so need to worry.

No SP shoutouts! WOOHOO! I can think of 2 individuals who swore up and down that he would never stop saying that because he LOVED his SP and didn’t recognize anyone else as being fans. I’m glad he’s moved on.

LOL! Oh you bet I did…loved the snark when he did it too.

  80. That’s the Taylor I like to see. Little bit of snark, little bit of attitude, and he sounded fantastic.

He needs to tour this album. I just don’t know why he’s not setting any shadow tour dates. Ugh.

  81. casualfan Says:

I completely agree IAG. He has that time off in the summer so my guess is that he may do just that. Maybe release it somewhere outside the US and a tiny tour? If they open the market to other countries it will push up his sales.

  82. casualfan Says:

And I do LOVE LOVE LOVE THE SNARK!

  83. Ummm…just to keep it real….those Amazon numbers reflect sales of the hard CD only. T’s not showing up at all on MP3 d/l of either songs or albums.

  84. jerseyirish Says:

True, So what does the other numbers mean then, now I am confused.

    SS, Nice pics, thanks!!! 🙂

    JI

  85. suze4158 Says:

Here is the Amazon link for the pop/adult contemporary list, now up to #9:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/music/67167/ref=pd_ts_m_nav

Since those lists are updated hourly, he is now risen to #59 on the overall bestsellers.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/music/ref=pd_ts_pg_3?ie=UTF8&pg=3

And it is true, these #’s are for Amazon only…not B&N, i-tunes, Walmart, etc. Amazon is a good indicator of selling activity, though.

  86. suze4158 Says:

Maybe true means that younger listeners d/l the mp3’s, etc., signifying who is buying?
I heard wind that TD is back up to #20 at i-tunes, if that counts.

  87. jerseyirish Says:

Suze4158, Thanks for the info. Next week when soundscan updates we should see the real numbers there I would think, the number of units that sold from last night on will be included.

    JI

  88. Sorry, I may be talking out my ass.

If you look at the bar at the top left under “Shop All Departments,” you’ll see the word Music. Follow that bar over to the far right of the screen and you’ll see “MP3 Downloads.” Open that up and you’ll see bestseller lists for downloads of Albums and downloads of Songs. Taylor’s not on either of those Bestsellers lists.

So I presume the other (non MP3) lists show sales in hard CD’s as opposed to sales by download.

Others? How do you read it?

  89. On the other hand, the MP3 Album sales have him at #10 on that particular Movers & Shakers list:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/movers-and-shakers/dmusic/ref=pd_ms_dmusic_bcrm_dmusic

  90. jerseyirish Says:

    ===================================

Well, he would not be a “bestseller” yet if this is based on # of total sales. Not sure what figure they use to determine a “bestseller.” He definitely is getting new sales to people who probably were fans of him before, but lost track and had no idea what he’s been up to or had a new CD out.

  94. Funny I don’t see SMB listed in (top 100) Movers & Shakers for SONG mp3 downloads. It’s the album getting the big increase in sales…. Could it be because it’s not released as a single yet?

  95. jerseyirish Says:

rajrae, The single isn’t released until 5/5 so it has to be the full CD sales going up. It all good for him!!! 🙂

    JI

  96. charcoal Says:

Just an FYI on Movers & Shakers. It’s kind of a false measurement meant to highlight, an “event”. It doesn’t have much to do with sales volume at all.

The Distance is #119 in MP3 Album sales. It’s ranking at #12 (when I looked) indicates only that it was at #9413 yesterday – hence the % increase.

Given that “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” is #211 on Movers & Shackers and #165 in MP3 Albums sales and was RELEASED IN 1998 would lead me to believe that there is very little gap in MP3 albums after the top, what, 50 or so? And also that the Movers & Shakers thing is first and foremost a SALES TOOL with sort of a “Ha, Made you look” bent to it.

  97. casualfan Says:

I think he signed on till 2010-whatever that means. **fingers crossed it’s only till Jan**

  98. jerseyirish Says:

charcoal, Now I am totally confused, are you saying the numbers on amazon are inflated are not real numbers? I think you are saying his sales saw a spike, but not as much as we may think right now.

    JI

  99. All these numbers are making my head hurt. He did a great job last night, but what’s he going to do to keep that going? Oh yeah, nothing. He’s going to go back to Grease.

  100. JumpedtheShark Says:

    Which site is SP Central?

And was BB and AI upset no Soul Patrol shout-outs? *snickers*

And one more thing, is SMB being played on country stations yet? I think I heard May 5 or something. I don’t put much faith in Amazon numbers either. And I’m not as optimistic as others regarding the AI exposure, but he did do one hell of a job.

  101. Yeah, May 5th SMB goes out.

I was afraid to ask what SP central is.

  102. Seven Days Says:

As far as the Soul Patrol shoutouts go, I haven’t seen or heard him do this since late January (hallelujah), and though radio and TV announcers still use it, he’s not responded in kind.

So let’s see, so that would be Feb..March..April — yeah, almost three months “Soul Patrol sober”… I see a trend!

  103. I truly believe Taylor needs the Grease income and I don’t think A2M is doing a good job. I went to Target today and they had 2 slots for TD at $9.99 but had no copies and had EW in the slots. Then under the alphabetic listings they had a sign and slot for TD on special for, get this, $7.99 until June 4th. But once again EW was in the slot. I asked the clerk and he said to call before coming again since he did not know when they would get more. They have not had it for weeks and this is a big metro area store. I want to buy one more copy but would prefer to do so from a store this time. If it is not in stores people forget about it. Tay has spent a fortune putting out his CD and it will be a long time before he recoups, much less sees a profit. I do agree he comes from a conservative finincial background and is business savy. But he does need that other income right now and he needs to sell at least 200,000 CDs. Maybe I’m a fruit cake for even thinking about his money but like Raj I think Grease and perhaps in another year some other BDway show may be necessary to foot his business/music .

Those are exactly my thoughts IAG, I just hate to see SMB fall down that deep dark whole all his others songs have. It’s such a good song, and he performs it so well. But I’m not thinking this song is going to reel Taylor into musical stardom. *ducks*

And I still hate that The Right Place is history, so much more should have been made of that single. *shakes head*

  105. My tween requested SMB 4 times in the last 2 days while driving back & forth to school. Then she says “Who is Georgia? He sings about her all the time!”
    LOL
………..uhm Georgia is a state. LOL

  106. BTW, I don’t know whose lamebrain idea it was to price TD at $7.99, but I think he should not be giving away his talent like that. Compare his performance to the past winners who have been on this year and runners up such as Archie and Pickler. None of them are bargain basement priced!

  107. mamaforpeace Says:

Maybe I am a selfish and insensitive jerk for not caring about the business aspect of TH’s career! I just want him to play real music, and forget this Broadway crap. If I were directly affected by his finances, I may feel differently. But from where I stand, if he is going to do this to afford playing his music, then at least have more shadow tours! Oh, and by the way, I do like some Broadway stuff, it’s just that it’s not what I envisioned Taylor Hicks doing.

  108. mamaforpeace Says:

Question: does Taylor have to be a “star”, or can we be satisfied with him being a working musician? Us, not him, I have no idea what he wants!

  109. That deep hole is filled with about 5 songs from the TH CD that coulda woulda and shoulda had some impact on radio and thus sales. Hopefully many people who watched AI last night are into that type of song and will buy it and radio will spin it. There is not much more Tay can do although he’d love to be on Leno and all the big TV shows, right now he has to settle for who will have him. Hopefully the way he performed last night will grab some of the producers of those shows and he will be invited to do an encore. He is still paying some more dues in the music business.

Rosie, Maybe you should direct your concerns to his Accountant. You seem deeply concerned with his financial status and his accountant can better answer your questions. Either that or you can contact his Attorney Michael Douglas, who is located in Birmingham, AL for those answers. He’ll be more than happy to address your concerns as he see’s fit. 😉

  111. casualfan Says:

Rosie, Taylor will be “paying his dues” for years to come. There are millions of Artist’s out there in the same boat, so Taylor is no different. He’s nowhere near Clapton status hon.

  112. It’s not that he has to be a “star.” I would be satisfied with WM. (But I would like for more people to recognize his awesome talent!) I think he’s trying to get exposure through Grease, and all these radio and TV interviews, and working to get some serious radio play, hoping that one of these songs take off and become a hit. Not necessarily to make him a star, but to make the album successful. (I guess he would not mind being a bigger star. LOL)

Those of you who want him to abandon Grease – do you think if he dropped Grease right now and only toured the album it would be enough to survive on? And would it make the CD more successful? I’m curious to know if you truly believe that would work. I think you do because IAG you have repeatedly put up videos and articles about how indie artists are marketing their music and how successful some of them are, implying that you think Taylor could & should do it too. I’m not a true believer yet. LOL I feel like we don’t have the facts to have a clue what he “should” do.

And even if that would work, it might not even be what TH wants. Otherwise he would “ditch” Grease and tour the cd now like you all want. So he either believes he needs Grease or he just plain WANTS Grease. We can speculate from now till doomsday but that’s a question only he could answer. As for me, I want WM, but I also want him to choose his own path. If I decide I don’t like it I’ll get off the train as some point.

  113. AT some point.

  114. jerseyirish Says:

rajrae, Very well said. No one knows if he’d rather be out touring or just enjoying what he is doing now to support himself.

Rosie, I agree that Grease is his income right now and he needs Grease or some other Broadway show to sustain himself and keep doing his music. If this is the path he wants to go either your with him or your not.

  115. CF, Honey bunny just expressing my monetary concerns and trying to keep it real. Hope the video for SMB is up and ready to go sooner than later since should the song get radio play the vid could get tv exposure. Somehow I doubt that Tay post AI5 win wanted or expected to be in the same boat, or even luxury cruise liner with millions of struggling Artist’s. The question now is; What status does Mr. Hicks deserve versus what status he gets…

  116. My brain and personality always goes to numbers, percents facts and figures. Just can not change that fact. I’ve tried to calculate what Tay has made since he won and know his dad and he are on top of it. My sad numbers affliction just will never get me to the point where I can request he do or not do what I want him to do. Sometimes it is hell to be inflicted with Taylor Hicks flu. Thank heavens I’ve never been invested in any other celebs career or life! There is fun, knowledge, joy and angst and in the case of gathering with others fans a pseudo club. But often that damn angst and worry creeps in to even soil the good times. Meanwhile family and friends think such thoughts as what in the hell happened to her, she used to be so normal and grounded. Taylor Hicks happened. The fact he just keeps on proving how ballsy and talented, unique and determined he is keeps me here and there as an invested fan.

  117. Jump the Shark and IAG … tisk tisk. Don’t be lazy, girls. You can find what you need in my post.

  118. Lazy is my middle name, True. 😆

  119. Rosie you are not alone in worring about Taylors finances. I have used them to justify the extended Grease tour, I give him kudo’s for buying his dad and brother and Ms Joni cars…. but I want him to own one too. That vintage vette looked good…. or the rental truck he tore up the tires on would work too. I have wondered what he did with his plot of land, and where in the hell is that condo on the gulf that it is rumored he purchased, maybe that was a time share. I want to know how much he pays Bill Will? Is it enough? too much? He has some nice clothes, but I am sick of that Captain Kangaroo jacket…… can he afford to give that to the Hanna home and buy him something new.

I think it is a lot more fun worring about Taylors finances than worring about my own…. I know what I can’t afford!!!

Mammaforpeace…. I get where you are coming from…. enough Grease…. get your butt out on the road with you tunes!!! and if not that then drop in to some smokey bars give Bill the video camera and give us what we need from time to time…. Bar Taylor.

Nice to see you True, I have missed you…..

  120. Wowzers is right. What a performance. If there was anywhere that he was going to yell Soul Patrol – it was going to be on that Idol stage. Fair and safe to say… it’s done. I know I was not a fan of Grease at all – but the general public seems to be completely OK with it – much more than some of the hard core fans are. It is nice that he IS doing something that can be talked about. Not just sitting on his ass waiting for the phone to ring.

  121. And honestly? You want honesty, right?

I could give a shit about Taylor’s finances. That’s not my problem, that’s his. All I want him to do is be a working musician. Find some places and sing.

  122. Thank goodness I’m not alone with my worries. Legacy also frets about Tays money. He will be set for life if at age 32 he could bank a million and have it earn conservative interest and never touch it until he is 60. Iag, with all due respect you are demanding of the man, person, and celeb. He, like all of us, needs to put his best interest first, front and center. I’m certain you do not permit others to put such demands on you. When my 3 children were young I understood I was just mom, someone to fill their needs. Tay is an adult a person with his own life and needs, not a mindless entity, a song writer, singer, and performer who is required to fulfill anyone’s wants needs and fantasies. Maybe you will travel 3 years from now to listen to him at Ona’s or Martys where he may make a few hundred a night, but should he count on that, settle for that just to give you want you want? This is his life and he should do what is best for him…

  123. mamaforpeace Says:

Sorry! As a “fan”, I only care what’s best for me! As I said, I’m just selfish.

  124. Um, rosie, I can be demanding. No way in hell is he listening to me, and I really don’t expect him to. But I don’t care what he does with his money or why he’s working the Grease gig. I just want to see him touring this cd.

I mean, I can say those things about anybody, it doesn’t make them true.

  125. Ohhh new blog on myspace. 🙂

  126. Yeah, he put the same one up on FaceBook Christa. Messages two days in a row! Must be a record of some kind.

Hey, why isn’t Hell Of A Day on “Early Works?”

  127. “Sorry! As a “fan”, I only care what’s best for me! As I said, I’m just selfish.”

LOL Mama4P. I thought “fans” were supposed to care about the object of worship? 😀

  130. IAG – “Lazy is my middle name, True.”

Nobody will play. >sniffle< Oh well. Clearly my idiotic amusements find no takers here.

HI Legacy. It’s nice to see you too!

  131. Well, I was going to say the Boogies…but I figured that was too obvious, True.

And you know this how? Is there copies of his finanical records floating around in the caves under some of these blogs?

You and others are so worried and put so much energy into his finances, cd sale numbers, who’s screwing him over in the music, what he’s wearing, how he looks. Do you actually ENJOY his music? No offense, but when the mind is so cluttered with other things, it’s hard to forget what’s really important….enjoying Taylor’s music.

There’s a difference between “hearing” the music and “Listening” to the music. I see all listen, but not many hear….

  133. moonpie3 Says:

Finally got to see the video, to be honest I have been out of the loop for awhile.

Great performance, loved the “snark” everything about it……… THIS is the Taylor i fell in love with!

  134. casualfan Says:

Hey Moon! Yeah-I agree with the snark….that’s our Tay-Tay

  135. jerseyirish Says:

cf, Not wrapped up in his finances just get tired of everyone saying he needs to get back on the road because thats what they want. Have no idea what his finances are but from what he said Grease came along at the right time for him. I have been a fan of the man’s music since his audition. If you notice I never get involved with any talk of his body, thats not why I am a fan, its the music. Yes I think he is handsome, but it is his presentation of his music that has me hooked. These are just comments of what we may or may not think, just as you have yours.

    JI

  136. Casual, i enjoy his music and him as an entertainer and person. Some fret over him saying soul patrol or acting goofy. Several people made suggestions about what he should wear on AI but I didn’t. Yeah I’m into his ballsiness what made him keep going for 10 yrs pre AI and his keep on keepin on spirit and drive ever since. See I find those who just want him to be touring without working other angles to be naive about his finances and what he wants, likes and needs. Think we all agree he is looking good and did well on Wed. night. I enjoy running figures even when I only can guess the sums. He doesn’t have the Daughtry luxury of just sitting in a home somewhere and having the checks pour in. Perhaps Chris’s fans are whining that he isn’t touring. I don’t enjoy putting fans in a box and while I’d never do it I’m thankful there are those fans who seek out and posts Tays stats, interviews and vids.

  137. Wowzer, it seems Simon and Randy think Tay has a hit with 7 Mile and suggested he go the country route. Simon said forget the blues. Randy alluded to the audience favorable reaction. Please let this be a hit for Hicks.

  138. casualfan Says:

JI-Just to clear up something-The reason we all want Taylor to tour this CD is because we LOVE his music. His performance with 7MB only confirms what some of us have been saying from the beginning. Taylor is a born musician. What we all saw on AI is REAL, no glitter, no cones, no wigs…100% pure bad-ass Taylor!

  139. have to say this is the first timwe i have actually wathed this though. WOW, that was perfect. Loved the point.
