Anybody who has read this blog before knows about my love for Will Hoge. I’ve seen him in concert a few times and I think is a great singer/songwriter. So a few months ago, when I was flipping stations on the radio, imagine my surprise to hear Even if it Breaks Your Heart on mainstream country radio. This is an original Will Hoge song, and I’m glad to see he’s finally getting some breaks, even if it’s not him singing it.
You tell me..which version do you prefer?
I am a big fan of Matt Nathanson. I think he is a genius..and this song with Sugarland is amazing. It kind of feels like I shouldn’t be watching…like they should be alone. The chemistry is great..I can only hope for more duets with these two.
Well, I did find another song..it’s not exactly about sex.
And although I said I wouldn’t be dragging Taylor Hicks kicking and screaming back into the blog…that song reminded me of this one:

Adele came out with her second album yesterday, titled 21. No sophomore slump here. She is absolutely amazing. She doesn’t need autotune and the passion that she sings with just makes the lyrics come alive. Wow.

Since I have young children, I have to listen to the Justin Biebers and Lady Gagas of the music world, and listening to Adele sing makes them sound like they should be American Idol audition rejects. She, in my opinion, is in a class by herself. I have always believed that Martina McBride has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. But not anymore…Adele is unbelievably talented.

…just been kind of sitting back and watching. Waiting for some new music from Taylor Hicks. While I’ve been waiting, I’ve been discovering some new music, and for some reason, most of it is country. I haven’t been a fan of country in years, but for some reason lately, I’ve been drawn to it. Although it seems like these days there is so much crossover in the genres that I don’t really know that it can be called pure country. Not that’s there’s anything wrong with that, it seems to be successful for those artists.

I was browsing YouTube when I came across John Legend singing Compared to What. I’m always amazed how a singer can change up a song and make it sound completely different. Compared to What is actually an anti Vietnam song, recorded in 1969 by Les McCann. Here’s some different versions:

I’ve been thinking about this site and what I want out of it. I want to get it back to where it used to be. I want people to come here to discover new music, enlighten themselves on different preferences and have meaningful discussions. That being said…I want this site to be about the music, not about who Taylor’s sleeping with, who’s crazy in the Soul Patrol or various other things. I’m not saying that Taylor Hicks cannot be discussed here or even that his “personal life” can’t be discussed. I would just appreciate that it be done tactfully. Now, back to the music:
A friend of mine recently turned me on to this guy. This kid is good! He reminds me a little bit of Amos Lee for some reason. I think it’s just the tone to his voice.

The irony in this is that Taylor Hicks has been my “favorite waste of time” for a while now…although not so much now as before.
